Clinton Won't Release Earmark Requests Like Obama

Close observers of yesterday's reports on the efforts of McCain and Obama to get Sen. Clinton to disclose her earmark requests going back to 2001 may have noticed a strange thing about the statement her office issued at the end of the day.

It said all manner of things about earmarks, and moratoriums, and funding, and accountability. But it never said whether she would disclose her earmark requests going back to 2001.

We spent today back-and-forthing a few more times by e-mail with her press office, and the exchanges made it pretty clear that the oversight was intentional. The plan seems to be that since the NY press has never obsessed over Hillary's earmark requests, she can safely not release them as long as she doesn't say she won't and doesn't say why she won't.

Then the country is in for big trouble. Things have been going so well, lately.
I keep hoping Pennsylvania's Gov. is a lonely number(he should be).
It's doing wonders for tourism. "If you like pockets of racism(the law, according to Rendell) and a political machine/machines visit Pennsylvania who can't get enough of Bushes and Clintons".

Was there in October but did not realize how locked up it was. Hillary must have the key to the state(maybe the state is one of her earmarks along with NH).

New York Gov Spitzer was under investigation because of a $5 million dollar loan that supposedly circumvented campaign financing laws. It turns out that a relative, his father, was behind critical loans for his attorney general campaign.

Bearing this in mind, voters should demand that Senator Clintons and Obama be completely forthcoming with their financial situations.

Anything less than full and complete disclosure by the candidates should disqualify them in the minds of all Americans.

Thats a lot of documents that Hillary isn't releasing. A lot of voters, and even Hillary supporters, should want to know the answers to so many questions. We don't want these to come out in the general election.

She shouldn't have to release any records of anything she has ever done. She's already fully vetted, and we voters just need to take it on her word - she has 35 years of experience and in that time, she has done so many great things to make the United States a better place for everyone. And besides, if companies are giving her large amounts of money so she can get elected, she owes them at least some amount of favors to make it worth their while.

Poke around the other same topic posts...Th­e Seattle Times published her earmarks and the contributions received from the benefactors. It is there for all to see.

This is public information that can be obtained without calling out the candidates as though it's their responsibility to do the research for the journalism world. I didn't see anything very telling in the list since this country has been in the middle of a war for 5 years. I'm guessing Obama's list will be much shorter because, by his own admission, writing books, doing book tours, and campaigning for president has been a big distraction from his job as a US Senator. If Illinois wants to complain they were shorted their fair share of earmarks, that's between them and their own Senator.

Senator Obama has released his 2006 tax return when his book was probably his greatest revenue source. He has not, however, released his 2007 tax return, so while you're demanding this from Senator Clinton, be sure you drop a gentle hint to the Obama camp that he should be doing this, as well, at the same time.

Now, if everyone who is so concerned about the Clinton financial portfolio would take a moment to notice their own retirement funds are vaporizing at free fall speed, could we please get back on task and demand to know what these people are going to do for our country?!?!?!?!

Lobbyists? You mean like Mark Penn (lobbyist and Clinton's top advisor) and Charlie Black (lobbyist and McCain's top advisor)?

Funny thing is, Penn and Black are not only friends, but business partners in a lobbying company---Penn is CEO and Black is the Chairman.

These guys will clean up if McCain and Clinton are the nominees--and, whoever wins, they can't lose. I think this explains Hillary's virtual endorsement of McCain's presidency---AND what seems like a mutual agreement to attack Obama rather than each other.

I think it stinks to high heaven to have lobbyists (1) that involved at the highest levels of presidential campaigns and (2) so closely tied to each other.

today on face the nation bradley agreed with MY basic premise... not yours. he should know he was there. also, he told tim that dole sent a note to moynahan stating that they would have a moynahan/dole health care bill. it seemed like a go 'til hillary screwed it up.

Transparency and accountability are completely reasonable requests in any presidential candidate. She needs to release the Clinton post presidential tax returns, her White House papers, a list of Clinton Library donors, as well as her legislative earmarks. If she won't do that then we are right to suspect what she might be hiding.
