Us Airlines Going Green

Guardian UK:

US airlines must pay for their carbon dioxide emissions or face a curb on flights to the European Union, the EU transport commissioner warned yesterday.

The green ultimatum was issued by Jacques Barrot as the transatlantic airline market undergoes its biggest shakeup in 30 years when limits on flights between the EU and US are lifted this month. Barrot said negotiations on a second phase for the treaty will include a demand that US carriers join the EU emissions trading scheme or an equivalent system in the US.

"My fellow Americans, spend your travel dollars in your own country
and let the Euros twist and spin in their hatred
as their culture evaporates and that birth rate
remains zero."

Reminds me of an old Punch magazine headline from England back in the height of it's imperialism.

"Fog Closes Channel, Continent Isolated".

There are over a 400 million people in Europe and 290 million in the USA. Twist and spin on that you chauvinistic dunderhead. Most of the people coming too America are those from 3rd world countries with zero education. Culture anyone.

(You do understand that zero birth-rate means no children born. Home schooling?)

The EU knows the USA is in a weakened position, they smell the blood in the water, now they are dictating to us, thanks to Bill Clinton with his giving the factories to Mexico and Communist China and to the other Republican George W. Bush ,who is spending us to a debt that we can never pay off with out those good paying factory jobs.
Those two president and the Republicans in congress that walked in locked step to allow this to happen, should be locked up for treason! .

Another scientist.

Zero education?? All those computer nerds from India?? Wow. Who'd a thunk it!

England?? Yeah. Your average LA street gang could take England in a day or so.

Get a clue you chauvistic moron. 400 million? Living like ants. Enjoy Islam.

US immigrants are now more highly educated
22 February 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The education levels of immigrants to the US are higher this decade than in the late 1990s, the newspaper USA Today reports.

According to US Census Bureau data released on February 21, of the 3.4 million immigrants aged 25 or older who arrived between 2000 and 2004, 30.7% did not complete high school, compared with 33.2% who did not complete high school out of the 3.5 million people who settled in the country from 1995 to 2000. Also, 34.3% of those who came to the US in the later period had college degrees compared with 32.5% percent in the earlier period.

Roughly 6 million people have arrived since 2000, of which 59% are from Latin America and 23% from Asia. These groups are also more highly qualified; 13% of Hispanics aged over 25 arriving since 2000 had college degrees compared with 9% of those who came in the 1990s. The figures for Asians was 65% who had college degrees since 2000 and 49% who had colledge degrees in the 1990s. Other research shows that the children of Asian and Hispanic immigrants are more likely than their parents to live in the suburbs, own their own homes and have college degrees.

This increase in qualification levels is at least partly driven by Government policies. In 2001, 2002 and 2003 the US issued 195,000 visas each year to specialized, college-educated workers sponsored by their employers, which is three times the normal rate.

According to a Government household survey conducted in March 2004 over 34 million people or one in eight of the population of the US were born overseas. Total immigration is forecast to be 14 million this decade, up from 12 million in the 1990s.

Back in the 80's the Usa would not allow the Concorde to land in NY as it was too noisy :-) Americans love stupid regulations.

To elaborate on my previous comment, let's cancel ALL flights to Europe, and all flights FROM Europe, too, for oh, say, about ten years, until the political and economic environment gets a little cleaner, there....when they can certify that they're 100% buktenstakten-free, and it's not a conflict of interest anymore for americans and europeans to be criscrossing back and forth and making phone calls and so forth across the Atlantic, then we'll send a couple sailboats of 'pilgrims' over, to test the waters, there...

Yeah, well, vote for Bert, I got somethin' for em...they might not like it, but we're 9.3 Trillion in the hole, and the 'european union' is partly to thank/blame for that.

When will US based air carriers start accusing the EU is just trying to prevent US air carriers from going to Europe by demanding that US airlines leave a smaller carbon foot print? Will US airlines band together to fight the EU's 'green' demands of them? If each airline tried to give the impression that it acted alone when fighting EU policies & rules-it wouldn't fly. US airlines could use EU policies & regulation as a pretext for pulling out of serving europe. Since the dollar is dropping faster than a Langley Aerodrome, not serving europe would save US airlines money. While Europe's consumers will continue to visit the USA to pick-up bargains by paying with Euros, not many Americans will have the money to visit europe & pay european prices. Letting EU airlines serve european consumers will save US airlines money. Pride, national pride, of US airlines serving europe is an expensive luxury that the USA can't afford anymore. US airlines can easily get away with not serving europe since the US $ has lost its value & will continue to drop in value in the fore-seeable future.

WOW!

I'm certain that the European hospitality industry must be pleased. Just another reason to stay in the States for vacation this year.

"Go green" - What a damn joke; PT Barnum must be smiling in his grave.

Pretty chilly out, you know? As the coldest winter in many years draws to a close.

Actually, the snow banks from the Arctic down to Siberia are the thickest in recent memory.

But, hey, don't let the facts interfere with your imagination.

Please American people, stay in your country, we don't need you over here and your worthless money will not get you very far from the airport exit.
Spend your dollars filling up your SUV tank to go to Wal Mart to buy chinese crap with your credit card as you guys are too stupid to invest in mass transportation such as subways, tramways and green buses.
Please Americans, keep living in your bubble while the world is moving around you.

I'm all for reducing green house gases but this emission trading scheme is just that, a scheme.

I hope the US comes up with a better alternative than the robbing Peter to pay Paul mentality of emissions trading and carbon credits.

They are nothing but lame resolution, revenue generating scams.

be considered an idle threat?

What's next, our soccer privileges??
