Bill Clinton: "Chill Out" And Let Voters Decide

Bill Clinton, in an exclusive interview with Robin Roberts, said he thinks Democrats are torn between two candidates they like, and that it's time to "chill out" and let the voters decide who should be the party's presidential nominee.

"The voters get to decide. I think we should just celebrate this," Clinton said. "If we just chill out here and let all the voters have their say, my gut is it's gonna come out all right."

Roberts spoke to Clinton in New Orleans, where he was working with the Clinton Global Initiative.

When the conversation turned to politics and the tight race between his wife, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, the former president said Democrats are dealing with a difficult decision between two strong candidates. "I expect a spirited election in the fall no matter what happens," Clinton said. "But we should just let the Dems decide. This is a tough choice for them.

"They got two candidates, they basically like them both, and they have different strengths," he said. "And they have to decide which skilll set is more important number one for the country's welfare in the long run, and which one is more likely to be elected. And you know I have my strong convictions, but I might be wrong."

Though the campaign has taken some nasty turns, with surrogates and campaign members from each side making controversial attacks on the other, Bill Clinton said for most Democrats both candidates look good.

We liberal democrats will Chill Out when you and your wife decide to take the high road, look at the numbers and see that losing graciously and not screaming, scratching and clawing at your opponent when you get desperate and fearful of losing, would be the honorable thing to do.

But past experiences have taught us that it is very unlikely for you to take the high road and be moralistic, you single handedly helped to destroy Al Gore and his chances of winning the white house with your selfish thoughtless womanizing.

You and the other half of the two for one deal are at it again, being thoughtless, selfish and running a "monstrous" campaign, in fact Hillary has turned out to be the most despicable democratic candidate I can ever remember participating in the primaries.

You are doing to all democrats what you did to Al Gore, helping to destroy our chances of winning in November by being so disrespectful of your opponent and disregarding fair play and integrity and replacing decency with obnoxious deceitful behavior.

I have just been flabbergasted by your willingness to trash your opponent with the most vile incendiary slanderous innuendos.

But rather than expose Obamas weaknesses and shortcomings it has exposed your team for what you are, Republican two faced hypocrites who are willing to lie, cheat and distort the record of your opponent in a vainglorious attempt of ceasing power at any cost.

Isn't it interesting, the person married to the Republican in Democratic clothing who wants to change the rules so the people's voices will not be honored is now telling the people to "chill out"? Isn't it interesting after three years, Bill has finally noticed New Orleans? We aren't supposed to notice he has ignored the plight of those "scary black people" until his wife has fallen so far back in the nomination process she can't catch up. We aren't supposed to notice the all out hypocrisy of these people.

Essentially like them both? There was a time when I think that was true. As usual Bill is a little behind the times.

Hi Bill,

The voters have already decided, your wife cannot win without superdelegates usurping the will of the people.

Love,
Reality

Neither candidate will get enough delegates for the nomination... it's not the candidate with 'the most' delegates, it's the candidate with 'enough' pledged delegates.

Since neither will get enough, the supers will have to make the decision.

... and if you're going to say they have to vote the 'will of the people they represent', rather than their conscience (which is what the rules state),... then let's start with Teddy Kennedy, Kerry and Deval Patrick- I cannot wait for the Massachusetts troika to have to vote for Clinton to respect the will of the people in their State.

The Independent Delegates are given the duty to support the will of the voters, but quite differently than what you have in mind I think.

Their job is to wait for voters to vote and then evaluate the situation. Their vote is to support the party as a whole and independently judge who can best win in November - again for the good of the party. Read - all democratic voters.

Obama has not won. I predict that Hillary will have the popular vote when all the primaries are over. The Independent Delegates can then decide who is most likely able to pull the party together to win.

Obama has screwed with the voters enough already by getting most of his delegates from caucus states. These delegates do not represent the democratic voters in these states. Caucuses are not representative this year.

Hey, this actually sounds like a small dose of modest honesty coming from Mr. Clinton. Found a flash of religion or what?

I hope his "chill out" message resonates with his wife. She doesn't seem very chill about this if by "let the voters decide" he means the person who has won the most delegates, most states, and most votes (Obama is ahead in popular votes and it will likely stay that way) should win the nomination. Still, I give him credit for at least saying, "And they have to decide which skill set is more important number one for the country's welfare in the long run, and which one is more likely to be elected. And you know I have my strong convictions, but I might be wrong."

Here's an update on the Peter Paul vs. Clintons lawsuit:

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=56868

Looks like some of the media is finally starting to report on this story - why isn't ALL of the media getting this information out to the American public ???

The hearing to set the trial date is tomorrow (Monday).

I agree with Bill - the VOTERS should decide.

Go away, Billary. The voters HAVE spoken.
You could care less. Destroy and divide the party? So what. Your greed is good, afterall.

Keep exploiting those uneducated "downscales" while hanging with Poppy Bush and your pals, Mark Penn and Ron Burkle. And that very, very special ex GS lady friend-- you know the one--- NYC ane CA.

BTW, How's the hedge fund doing? That would be the hedge fund employing your daughter, Chelsea. Oh, but that's right, I'm not supposed to think or leap.... you're about public service and "caring" about us, the commoners .... Lip bite.

Sincerely insincere, you are.

Um, Bill?

3/4rtrs of the pledged delegates have been selected. It is a statistical near certainty that Obama will get more delegates that Hillary. The people have spoken, and notwithstanding the virulently racist campaign that you asshats are ginning up for PA, the people have chosen Obama.

Obama is trying to hijack this election. Not the other way around.

Delegates from caucuses do not represent the will of the voters in those caucus states come November.

Are you from Colorado? You should be aware of this. How many registered democrats voted in the Colorado caucus? So out of how many registered democrats likely voting in November - voted caucus day? What is the representation?

Do you really believe a bunch of evangelistic college kids or whoever - represent the democratic voters in these states. My caucus felt like a foreign army had invaded. It was highly offensive.

Wow what a headline, Obama goes to church! I did not see that one coming? Surely there can be no excuse for going to church after all we are supposed to have a seperation of church and state.

Oh you say it's not that he goes to church its that he goes to a church where the pastor is African American and says that African Americans have been treated unfairly in this country. Well that is even worse, how dare Obama go to a church where they suggest that African Americans have not been treated fairly. Everybody knows that there has never ever been any discrimination in America, and anyone that dares to say there was can not be a Christian.

No wait its not because he says the African Americans have been treated badly it because of the way he says they have been treated badly. You don't mean that he dares to stand up an shout about this mistreatment. Well we certainly can't forgive him for that. As we all know the only way to talk about these matters is in a quiet, respectfully voice. For Obama to listen to a loud voice complaining about the mis-treatment of African Americans clearly shows that he is unfit to be President.

What a bunch of nonesense. Personally I think we would all be better off if injustices were shouted from the tops of buildings. Was it not this attitude about injustice that resulted in the formation of the United States of America.

Interesting...here's the most "controversial" thing the Pastor said that day, according to your article:

"Addressing the Iraq war, Wright thundered, 'Young African-American men' were 'dying for nothing.' The 'illegal war,' he shouted, was 'based on Bush’s lies' and is being 'fought for oil money.'”

A Pastor showing emotion about something that falls right in step with the way 70 something percent of America already thinks! Could this be the reason the Republicans lost the Congress and will lose the White House in November? Do you read the news, ever? God Bless every single one of those 4,000 soldiers.

...and get the fuck out of here with your "busted."

That news story has all ready been proven wrong. Obama was in New Hamphsire on July 21 and in Florida on July 22. Do a little google research and it comes right up. I seriously doubt he flew to Chicago just to go to church.

Yeah, Obama hates America more than 'the Clintons' who're selling it out to industry lobbyists.

Uh huh...

Bill Clinton will take money from ANYBODY. Kazakhstan, wealthy Americans, criminals who have fled U.S. jurisdiction. He'll also feel up any woman he likes. Don't believe me? Go online and check out how many women have accused him of everything from sexual harassment to assault, dating all the way back to his embarrassingly brief career at Oxford when he was a student. The evidence is overwhelming, and it has been well documented by reputable journalists that Hillary Clinton has covered for him, going so far as to send her people to intimidate and discredit women who have spoken up. Can you call HC a feminist? If you can, you have been conned by the Clinton PR machine. Do the research. She has no right to be president. We need a real deal candidate. No more deals. No more cons. No more cheating. No more lobbyists' buddies. No more Bushes and no more Clintons.

It's a sad fact that every time he says something--even something that sounds neutral or decent--I now think "what's his game?" I almost wonder if he's trying to lay the groundwork for something--a reversal? a withdrawal?--something to repair all the ill-will of the last several months.
