Bill Clinton: "Chill Out" And Let Voters Decide

Bill Clinton, in an exclusive interview with Robin Roberts, said he thinks Democrats are torn between two candidates they like, and that it's time to "chill out" and let the voters decide who should be the party's presidential nominee.

"The voters get to decide. I think we should just celebrate this," Clinton said. "If we just chill out here and let all the voters have their say, my gut is it's gonna come out all right."

Roberts spoke to Clinton in New Orleans, where he was working with the Clinton Global Initiative.

When the conversation turned to politics and the tight race between his wife, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, the former president said Democrats are dealing with a difficult decision between two strong candidates. "I expect a spirited election in the fall no matter what happens," Clinton said. "But we should just let the Dems decide. This is a tough choice for them.

"They got two candidates, they basically like them both, and they have different strengths," he said. "And they have to decide which skilll set is more important number one for the country's welfare in the long run, and which one is more likely to be elected. And you know I have my strong convictions, but I might be wrong."

Though the campaign has taken some nasty turns, with surrogates and campaign members from each side making controversial attacks on the other, Bill Clinton said for most Democrats both candidates look good.

What about Vincent Foster? Did the Clintons have him killed or something?

What about Bill's meeting with Richard Mellon Scaife last spring? Supposedly they kissed and made up.

Then there's that fundraiser that Rupert Murdoch held for Hillary Clinton in 2006 and the donations Rupert and his son made to her campaign. Bill also went off to a weekend retreat with Murdoch in August of 2006, along with Al Gore.

Bill visited Rush's show just before the 4 big primaries the other week and I heard somewhere this weekend he's going to appear on Fox Monday or Tuesday.

Talk about strange bed fellows..

This is ignorant and paranoid. Who are you trying to tie this to? You are treading toward unjust and infair territory, very libelous. Why don't you try reading the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for the fair and balanced reporting.

Yet another example of how much bile the Clintons stir up-- whether this is true or not (probably not), the right will go to stop them.

"Already vetted" or not, this kind of crap will ALWAYS come up with Hillary and Bill, and on "Day One" when she's supposedly so ready to lead the country, she'll be too busy fending off attacks like these, special prosecutors, and the like. And health care will go by the wayside. We'll stay in Iraq, and nothing will be better, because it will be politics as usual.

Bill went on Limbaugh's show? When was this act of treason committed?

We're not ever going to 'chill-out' because we know the Clintons are going to try and steal the nomination. And I'm speaking for the millions of Obama supporters who expect him to win this fair and square. Period.

Dear Mr. Clinton, the voters have spoken already. At this point in the race, there is no chance for Mrs. Clinton to win a majority of pledge delegates going forward. If the election goes through Puerto Rico and all the wasteful re-votes are held, Mrs. Clinton still will not change the outcome. A majority of the nation and voters has weighed and measured both Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton, and they have chosen Mr. Obama.

The democrats need to now rallying behind the nominee, Mr. Obama, and put an end to the negative bloody smear campaign that has been employed by Mrs. Clinton these past few weeks. Nothing good will come of a continuation of this nomination process when the result is already well known. It is time to begin the process of campaigning in the general election for both a Democratic President and a Democratic filibuster proof congress. The shared goals of these two great candidates are within reach finally within our nation's history and to see such hope distinguished by one candidate's bitterness over defeat is absurd. Such actions will be remembered throughout all history if the fallen candidate costs the Democrats the White House in this time in our nation's history when the leadership of the Democrats is so needed.

I have a feeling that half of the people who initially supported him regret doing so after reading the sermons of the "Wright Reverend". If I were a super -delegate, I wouldn't even dream of supporting Obama at this point.

Once again mollye witch story is more believable? Hillary lived with bill every day of her life, slept in his bed for over 20 years, and raised his kid---and she didn't know he was haveing one affair after another under her nose! Now you have a busy man who goes to church when he can that claims he missed a couple of surmons the minister gave that was contreversal to his believes! That isn't to hard to figure given what you heard on Fox and around the world was a couple of 12 second sound bit taken out of 2 sermons over twenty year time------------where on the other hand Hillary was with bill every day, slept in his bed, raised his kid and claim him her mentor, frien and lover and did not know he had racial tendencies or was have sex with a number of women over the years. so lets not go with the preacher thing, unless you want the Obama people to start toting this, and find out what story is more believable.

I believe the voters have decided. It'll be nearly impossible for Hillary to come back. Here's a great explanation of the math and the uphill battle HRC faces:

I agree with Bill. Voters just don't care about all this funny business. Voters care about how high the price of gas is.

They'll vote for the one they think can help the most.

Shelly1970 are you STILL stalking Ann?... It's really creepy that when I read your profile you're following her from thread to thread - what is going on in your troubled life that you think it's appropriate to follow someone around as though to intimidate their right to free speech?

You call her a plant, but she has been around far longer than you, and her posts are always fair, without spewing hatred or ad hominem attacks (like yours).

The only 'plant-speak' I hear is from you... "I am a Hillary supporter... but..." now that sounds like classic Troll.

The voters have decided and Obama has won, and the only way Hillary could win is to have super delegates overturn that.

How is it that no candidate has enough delegates to win, yet you declare a winner?

The Super Delegates were designed to resolve an issue just like the one we have now.

If the Super Delegates are just supposed to vote the way the people or pledged delegates do, then why have Super Delegates at all?

Yeah, it's a screwy system, but it's the system - If I have to live by it, so do you. Her win will be just as legitimate as any other nominee's.

What a great idea, Bill, we'll let the voters decide. Maybe we'll, like, have some primaries. Oh, I forgot...we have! But thanks for sharing, anyhow.
