SNL's digital short this week featured host Jonah Hill ("Knocked Up" and "Superbad") telling castmember Andy Samberg's that he's in love with Samberg's dad. Samberg's dad is actually Jim Downey, the writer responsible for recent debate skits and uncle to Robert Downey Jr.

Ah,so you post my meaningless comments directed at you but not the
politically incorrect stuff.

You very sneaky moderator ;)

Oh well,can't say I didn't try.

BTW,they ought to hire more than 15.That seems like a very small
number to handle all of the traffic on this blog.

Anyway,y'all moderators,have a lovely evening.

Alright,i sit corrected.You very brave moderator :)
I know it's not something that we like to acknowledge but I have found
it to be true in alot of cases(the aversion thing)
Maybe i can relent a little and say(write?) that perhaps in a hundred years
we all might be past the visceral reaction thing...who knows.
Anyway,I apologize for in essence calling you cowards.
Happy st patty's day...tip a pint,lads'n'lasses :)

This is the problem with SNL now. Anything that's weird, or potentially shocking, is deemed to be funny. Comedy is often based on surprise, but the show has overdone the men kissing men bit, or even the men and women kissing in a grotesque manner. Not that there's anything wrong with that- but it's cheap desperation. Oddly enough, most of the show is usually predictable- as if repetition alone too is funny. So now it's predictable to see the same old tired skits, the "McGruders," the men tonguing men, the stupid videos, the wasted Keenan routines, the smirking Updates.... You watch the show because it is still SNL, and by the end you realize you haven't laughed once. And what's more boring and predictable- Mariah Carey or Janet Jackson? How about something really surprising- and good!

That wasn't Samberg's actual father. It was Jim Downey, the writer responsible for all the Hillary sketches lately. He's been with the show on and off since the beginning.

I like Adam Samberg a lot, and usually laugh out loud at his digital shorts. But this one? Unless I missed the point totally, I do not find anything remotely funny about it. Is it funny because of the french kiss? Are we that immature?

Andy Samberg is one of the most creative members SNL has hired, ever.
The guy is brilliant in his short films.
The kid is brutally funny, and getting his dad to act, is probably nothing new.
Samberg's pre-SNL stuff is on the web.

I agree. He does, however, seem to have a thing about using homosexuality as a the basis for the humor in his "skits" and I wonder about that. I'm not saying that we shouldn't poke a liitle bit of fun at it or learn to laugh a little bit about it, it's a funny subject, but Samberg seems to use it more frequently than most. By the way, I loved his bit about Mahmoud Ahmedinejad (sp?).

I watched it last night...and that was some serious tongue.

Is old man Samberg a performer or comedian by trade or background? Cause if he's not, he gets two thumbs up and a snap for that!

I've tried to catch SNL since the writers came back in the hope of seeing something funny, but SNL is getting really hard to watch - it's BAD! If it wasn't for the 'Weekend Update" segment I'd tell my Tivo to quit recording it... it's a good thing I can fast forward through most of the junk.

As a gay man if I was offended by every gay joke or skit I would be constantly offended. Fortunately I think I have a good sense of humor and as long as it isn't disrespectful I pretty much laugh along.

This skit however I thought teetered on the offensive. You have to ask what is the joke here. That Adam's dad may be gay??? is that funny? There are many gay dads - even some who were married to women before they came out.

I'm tired of a gay kiss being the "gross out" humor for straight people. Movies like American Pie and skits like these constantly use male to male kisses for this "gross out" humor. There is nothing gross about two men in love or kissing. It is part of life.

Can't we move on from this??? Can't gay humor be a little more sophisticated by 2008????

Here's the reality.
A majority of heterosexuals simply have an aversion to
homosexual interaction. No matter how hard you try to normalize
homosexuality,a great number of the population will find it to be
a "gross out". Yes,even some of the people who act as if it doesn't
bother them. My best friend's husband is as liberal as they come, believes
he is extremely open-minded and yet I saw him cringe when we were
out at a club and two men were kissing back by the restrooms. He said it made
him want to puke. So much for open-mindedness,huh? Face it,for most heteros
it's a visceral reation. You will never change that,no matter how normal you try to make it.

What makes one person puke may be normal for another. Should we make people feel marginalized because they have a sexual predilection that we don't have? The logic is that we can't see homosexuality as a part of the spectrum of human behavior because it is disgusting to some flawed. Heterosexual sex is not always that amazing to watch either. Neither is old people sex. You know, participating in sex is often a lot better than watching, in my book. Perhaps that's why porn is disgusting to me.

Everyone has their own taste. "Chacun a son gout."
