Dick Cheney: Link Between Iraq And Al-Qaida

Dick Cheney: Link Between Iraq And Al-Qaida "Pretty Clear"

stumble digg reddit del.ico.us news trust

Before the Iraq war began, Dick Cheney was among the most prominent messengers of the false claim that Saddam Hussein had a relationship with al Qaeda. For example, he said it was "pretty well confirmed" that a 9/11 hijacker met with Iraqi intelligence officials before 9/11....

CHENEY: Well, this is no operational link. But there was, as I recall from looking at it, extensive links with Egyptian Islamic Jihad. Egyptian Islamic Jihad was the organization headed by Zawahiri, and he merged EIJ with Al Qaeda when he became the deputy director of Al Qaida, Osama bin Laden's number two. Now, was that a link between Iraq and Al Qaeda? Seems to me pretty clear that there was.

Does anyone really expect Cheney, Bush, or anyone else in this administration to have a grasp of reality? They have shown time and again they what they believe is what they believe. If it clashes with what is demonstrably real, reality is always the loser. The more massive failures of this administraton, particularly Iraq, stem from this peculiar capacity on the part of the neo-cons to create their own realities unemcumbered by what is staring them in the face. How scary that the most powerful nation on earth is currently under the thumb of dangerously deluded fanatics.

"Now, was that a link between Iraq and Al Qaeda? Seems to me pretty clear that there was." Other things have been clear to Tricky Dick (5 deferments) Cheney that were not quite correct such as;

"My belief is we will, in fact, be greeted as liberators." --March 16, 2003

In fact we were greeted with AK47's, and suicide bombers.

"We know he's been absolutely devoted to trying to acquire nuclear weapons, and we believe he has, in fact, reconstituted nuclear weapons." --March 16, 2003

Any WMDS yet, Dicky?

"In Iraq, a ruthless dictator cultivated weapons of mass destruction and the means to deliver them. He gave support to terrorists, had an established relationship with al Qaeda, and his regime is no more." "Nov. 7, 2003

Again, Any WMDS yet, Dicky?

"I think they're in the last throes, if you will, of the insurgency." -- on the Iraq insurgency, June 20, 2005

Yep, that's why we are still there almost 3 years later.

Dick Cheney is a no good, lying, thieving bastard. Does anyone other than RepubliCON sheep really cares what this idiot says, or what is clear to him?

I doubt there will ever come a time when dick cheney is not recognized as the embodiment of evil in the United States.

Before the war Al Qaida were not even on the radar in Iraq!

What the heck were you doing over there Dick?

Just wasting tax payers money and putting soldiers at risk protecting your sorry ass!

It's not fair for Huffington Post to manipulate us like this.

Stop all Cheney stories if you DON'T CARE what we think.

I was beginning to think that a pro-GOP moderator had infiltrated the system!

Getting so it's hardly worth while even trying to tell it like it is!

Freedom of speech is being murdered here!

Now seriously, isn't it time to impeach this lying bastard? He'll lie in the face of the American people for every remaining second that he holds office. Is there a higher crime than sending America's best to die based on a lie that was known to be a lie when we invaded?

Does this evil old man have no shame?
Will there never be an accounting for what this delusional bastard has done to the nation?

Nancy, I'm just a nice Catholic girl, Pelosi never should have taken impeachment off the table.
Impeachment would have ripped things up and exposed the underbelly of this evil, disastrous criminal administration.

Damn, but there is no rule of law in this country anymore to bind the actions of men!

the only clear link in iraq is the one between Cheney and Halitosisburton.

What is "pretty clear" is that we need to shut this doofus down and stop this backfilling on the lies by Bush and co. Someone, anyone needs to clearly come out and shout this twit down. Every time Cheney speaks there ought to be a chorus calling for his impeachment and the instigation of an investigation into his collusion in this entire delusion that seems to just go on and on. Shut it down, turn off the funding and get the hell out, now. I am tired of hearing the lies. I never bought them to begin with.

"I think there"s never been any doubt in my mind, but what Saddam Hussein was one of the prime state sponsors of terror in the world."

Ok, i finally get it. It is not that what he says is true, but that it is what ge believes in his own demented mind.

He's still saying it and the media still lets him get away with it.

Sure, wage a war in the nation of Iraq, topple the Middle East archenemy of Al Queda, do not secure the borders in the process -- allowing all manner of foreign terrorist cells to arrive in a nation where there virtually were none before, and then point to how there's a connection between Iraq and al Queda.

(And you want more years of this?!)

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:29 PM on 03/17/2008

Cells have existed in the USA long before the Iraq screw up. Merely go back to the toppling of the Shah and Ayatollah Komeini's emergence. This counry absorbed thousands of Iranian refugees, among them the beginning of those intent upon awaiting an oncoming religious war. It took years for USA authorities to recognize the cells and only by investigating a massive underground economy supporting them did their mission become clear. (An example of underground income; buying used cars from private citizens for fix up and then reselling privately. Don't scoff, it works, and there are many more examples.)
So perhaps VP Cheney knows something a little more than his critics. Connections between "terrorists" from various MidEast countries have existed previous to he and the Prez's arrival.

Ah yes, the ultimate right-wing argument. Cheney has special information that nobody else does therefore he can never ever be questioned.

Why is Cheney sitting on a THRONE? Does he want to be the next "President" of Iraq?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:27 PM on 03/17/2008

Saddam did sponsor terrorism, just not Al Queda. He was deeply suspicious of Al Queda and Al Queda rallies their base by talking about dictators in the Muslim world like Saddam. A=BC.

We went to Iraq under lies, and justifying after the fact misses the point. Afghanistan was/is the war we should be fighting. Bin Laden called for $150 a barrel oil. He is smiling in his cave right now because Bush was dumb enough to invade Iraq.

Saddam may not have been directly involved with Al Qaeda, but he was active in sponsoring terrorism.

Using the same logic ... there is a pretty clear link between Al-Qaida and the CIA if you consider that Bin Laden's group grew out of Ronald Reagan's Afghan Freedom Fighters, the Mujahideen.

Cheney says, "...I think you may find that there was an extensive relationship with a broad range of terrorist groups..."

We know for certain that Saddam had a working relationship, an operationial link, if you will (the expression Cheney is so fond of), with the United States. Is that what he's referring to?

Cheney will be moving to Dubai, the new headquaters of Haliburton, to avoid extradition, once he is evicted. There is a big difference between being proud to be an american and being shameless.

If he and GWB move to Dubai, are we still obligated to provide them with Secret Service protection?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:56 PM on 03/17/2008

Well, you know that GWB is really planning on the move to Paraguay, don't you? His ranch is just across the border from Nelson Rockefeller's spread. George Bush will think it "Cute" if he can now move to a Third World republic and actually become the Dictator he's always wanted to be. That is a distinct possibility, friend.

It is truly amazing that we're watching the first of our career "Corporatists" to flee their alleged "Homeland". Think of it this way: To the well heeled, consummate Businessman, he believes that his business can exist regardless of the Country he's in. Regular people can't and don't think this way. Murdoch lives in China, etc. While there is no reason why any person can basically live where they want, it is unusual when a group of them bolt from their homeland after looting it. Why else would they pick countries that don't respect extradiction? You don't think they planned it that way, do you?
