Pastor Jeremiah Wright, who has become part of the national political dialogue in recent days, is viewed favorably by 8% of voters nationwide. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 58% have an unfavorable view of the Pastor whose controversial comments have created new challenges for Barack Obama's Presidential campaign....

Most voters, 56%, said Wright's comments made them less likely to vote for Obama. That figure includes 44% of Democrats. Just 11% of voters say they are more likely to vote for Obama because of Wright's comments.

GREAT LIES BY NOT SO GREAT POLITICAL LEADERS:

BUSH: "I'm a uniter, not a divider."

OBAMA: "This election is not about race."

BUSH: "Read my lips, no new taxes."

OBAMA: "I am not an affirmative action candidate."

I AM one if the 56% (glad to know I am not entirely alone)--the pecent that says by Rasmussen--that
they would be less likely to vote for Obama because of the Reverend's "God Damning"--I can see
no justification for being in the pews 10-20 years without some sort of protest in the congregation
or effort to confront the Pastor in seeking some sort of "reformation." None of that happened--and in this country no one can run for President with that kind of silent endorsement for such violent, dangerous
and outrightly blasphemous talk in church. No one will be elected with that "rotten egg" on his face,
and with the 56% white or black or tan--I am less likely to vote OBAMA, as I planned, until I see
an expanation for years of acceptance. And I don't see any such explanation forthcoming. It means
that unless I want BUSH III in McCain (George III)--I have to vote for Hillary. Hillary has put on too many
faces to fit my life--so I may just do as before--go and vote for Dem's in Missouri and against new firet
hydrants in upper-middle burbs--and leave the top blank (unless Karl Rove's trainees manage to do a new under-vote fraud as in Ohio 04, J.Gorman

Please, before you set that decision in stone, go listen to the whole speech in which Barack spoke about his "ex" pastor. It was courageous, honest, and talked about the issues of race in their full complexity. You sound like a very intelligent person, and I'll bet your vote that you will understand a lot more after you listen to the whole 45 minute speech. Someone who has also thought about political issues to the extent that you have ... can appreciate the difference between the soundbites being dished up by the mainstream media, and the portrait Obama draws of a man ... and an issue ... that is a lot more complex than Karl Rove and his ilk want you to believe that it is.
If you're white ... like me ... his speech is an education into the kinds of experiences that have shaped the worldview held by so many older African Americans. I don't understand that reality ... because I never lived it. What I do understand is the difference between Reverend Wright and Barack Obama. They share some elements of a common experience, but it made them different men. One afraid that this country will never change, and one who knows it can and must. But it will take all of us to make that happen, and we need you. Your first instinct to believe that Barack Obama is the man we need in the White House going forward was right - trust your gut? And please go listen to that speech?

ms huffington has to save us all from condy's latest ruse--she had to know what was going on with
passports and obama--they probably discussed it over tea in saudi arabia last month--she and busho--
so please let us have the real info--how did condy's little kingdom that once shaped our policy before Cheney took over--how did her slice of the monarchy invade our candidates personal files?? Maybe we
can have the 137th congressional investigation for respite. jgorman

I am old--as in 70--and Irish Catholic Democrat who is uneasy with all three!! But I support Obama
largely because it is absolutely necessary, if we are to undo hatred from the Arabs, that we overcome
our national cancer before the world: we are a racist nationl
But it saddens me to see the outrageous conduct of Obama's minister: Pat Buchanan is right (msnbc
has put him in a corner of oblivion) because Pat focuses that to run for president after sitting for 20
years in the pews listening to G-D America" is to choose the unreal. In my religion, always called non-
democratic in small c--we would quickly dispose of such a pastor with what canon law allows for protest.
Obama led no protest, did nothing to put boundaries around Wright--and actually should have walked
away long ago to another church congregation.
Now it is terribly difficult to explain--but Christian religions can insist on reform of conduct, and this
Pastor could be confronted with a process to make clear his outrageous affront to every serious American's patriotism. The gospel of Matthew has a short three-fold plan on how to approach offenssive Christians in the flock--and it really aint bad--warn them, confront them, if not change,
get rid of them. That still can be done with less loss for Obama than what's already showing in polls.
J.McCormick ps I will still vote for him if I do have to stand outside in Kansas City's crime-infested
polling spots where I get called an old white mother-f every year--and as every Black Baptist says,
"it don't mean a thing!!"jgorman log

I am a staunch supporter of Barack Obama, but I realize his candidacy is probably over because Jeremiah Wright told the truth about our misguided pro-Israel foreign policy which IS responsible for 9/11 and and told the truth about our racist social justice system
Remember when Bill Clinton signed the three strikes law which put a disproportionate number of non-violent black men in prison just to get white votes?
When Hillary gets the nomination, I will vote for Nader or write Barack in, EVEN if it means McCain wins. Yes, I would rather lose with Obama, than win with Hillary/Bill!!

So it was a good speech. So what. He still supports Wright. He says Wright is his family. Well his family hates my family, which is the 88% non-black America. I don't want an Obama Nation. And why is he keeping his white grandmother under wraps? Like they sent Wright to Africa. No one can do an interview.
Long live the free press.

Long live the free press indeed. What you see today is a farce posing as free, vetted source of information. Why do you think you see and hear only one clip, repeated over and over again ad nauseum? Do you really believe that this is the entire essence of Wright's body of work, a man who preached to a congregation 10,000 strong for decades?

The same man who spoke of the US of KKK A also took black males to task for abandoning families and responsibilities, who admonished blacks to take charge of their lives and give back to the communities. Not contoversial enough, is it.

Your "free press" has a different agenda, and it is to get someone who supports the media oligarchy, supports the long term military presence in the Middle East, supports the unequivocal aid and comfort given to Israel regardless the disparity that aid creates, and supports the role of Big Oil in the world and a policy of government domination to control access to oil.

Clinton or McCain, they don't care, as long as their plate stays full. If Ron Paul had a chance in hell I would give him all of my time and money; he is the only candidate left standing willing to take courageous positions. That leaves Obama, who at least offers a ray of hope with his rhetoric.

Free Press indeed.

Wright doesn't hate white people. Neither does Obama. What gives? Your willful ignorance is not helpful. Also, Obama's grandmother is in ill health, hence no interviews.

If Obama loses the democratic nomination now, his supporters can no longer blame Hillary Clinton but can chalk it up to some big-mouthed religious leader who knew very well Obama had presidential aspirations and was suppposedly such a good frind that he sunk Obama's campaign like a well-aimed torpedo. Politics would be better off without these religious screwballs on both sides of the aisle.

What if Wright and Obama have been working on this together for years? What if Obama has been chosen to run on behalf of this Afrocentric community? Don't you think that's a possibility? Those political sermons for Barrack, ranting against whites and blacks who weren't on board yet, -they were selling the videos of those sermons.

I am inclined to believe that something positive has come from this Barrack Obama/Minister Wright controversy. It is now ( I hope) firmly established that Senator Barrack Obama is a Christian!! I suppose now, because he is a mixed race
person,we should now ask what kind of a Christian..(then to be fair we should also ask Senator Clinton what kind of Christian is she?)
Senator Obama credits Minister Wright with bringing him to Christ, which I imagine helped him to meet, appreciate, and marry a compatible devoted woman and between the two of them bring two beautiful children into this world.
Senator Obama seems to be typical of most of the people attending Minister Wrights Christian Church. The Minister seems to have instilled in all of his parishioners Good Family Values.
Of course, the minister having been a US Marine is not always going to be politically correct in delivering a sermon....
As a Christian Minister with a US Marine background,he is more inclined to preach
that part of Christianity that says how 'Ye shall reap the WhirlWind!'
"Ye shall reap what you sow"..
Now I can understand why there is a need for the separation of church and state...!
May I remind all of you that John F Kennedy was not bound by the Vatican....

Obama will favor and honor his black adopted father Rev Wright and the members of his church. In his brainwashing speeches, he blames rich white people and Hillary and Bill - just like Rev Wright. Obama will govern as he has all along - giving favor to Rezko with a contract in Iraq or getting an earmark for Michelle's employer which led to Michelle getting a huge raise in income.

Obama is not loving America and all its people. Obama and his people will gain while the rest of us will be named racists if we do not "go along". Obama is not post-racial. He favors one race and lies about it.

Obama uses his "voice of authority" in the same brainwashing way Rev Wright does - all the megachurch rallies. I am deeply troubled with bringing this much religion into politics - again.

I don't mind having a realistic view of America. But I still have a deep love for America and all its people. What I have always loved about the Democratic Party is how we embrace one another as family with all our differences. Not with a racial divide like Obama has created - but all together as Americans with differences.

Our economy is collapsing. We do need a new identity. Let us focus on how Hillary can help all Americans survive this upcoming economic collapse and regain our strength all together.

We are not going to blame all white people - or rich white people - or Hillary and Bill.

Divorce ourselves from Obama. He represents an old direction of division. He cannot lead us all together. This Rev Wright was his adopted father. Do not let him lie to us.

We deserve better.

Hagee: Catholic church is a whore. War is moral.
Parsley: America was founded to rid the world of Islam, McCains spiritual advisor.
Billy Graham: Pastor to soooo many....anti semite to Jews
Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, etc. 911 Gods wrath against feminists and homo sexuals.

No one has called on anyone to denounce, deny or decry their spiritual advisors or pastors.
Intolerance is ugly no matter what color it comes in. However, we've heard bits of speeches from Wright (who in my opinion is as crazy as any of the above mentioned) and whole speeches from the others.

Where's that outrage? Where was the Mitt Romney outrage? The Mormon church is pretty out of the mainstream. This church has a hell and damnation preacher....how unusual....NOT!

I don't care what church my candidate attends. I don't agree with any of their views. I do agree with Barack Obama and while the Clinton dynasty lovers dance in the streets they might take a moment to reflect on the family they'd like to reinflict on us.

Hillary and her very good friend John McCain are like two peas in a pod.

First, I want to say that I found the views expressed by Reverend Wright in his few sermons publicized to be offensive and absurd. With that said, I have to say do we really know this individual? I'm speaking about Reverend Wright. We only saw three minutes of his life and have judged his entire being by such. I've listened to people that know Reverend Wright over the weekend talked about how this is a great and caring man. These people that spoke on Reverend Wright's behalf were white and black. So what I am saying, have we all been too quick to judge this individual?

Today I ask the same question because I listen to Pat Buchanan compare Reverend Wright to David Duke. Such a comparison is a little self serving on Pat's part. David Duke was the head of the KKK and a unrelenting racist/bigot. Are we attempting to now infer that all that belong to Wright's church are racists? I guess that is analogy that Buchanan and others want. For if such an analogy holds, the public will view Obama as a racist merely by association.

Pat thinks that being of Irish descent is having faced the exact same discrimination that slaves did after having been abducted from Africa and placed in slavery for two hundred years. Pat thinks that there is nothing wrong with the system and that the second coming was Raygun. He does dump on NAFTA though in his new book and distances himself from Milton Friedman's policies.

But 70% of African-American have at one time entertained the idea that the CIA created the AIDS virus or dumped drugs into the black community. Right or wrong, for some reason blacks remain a little distrustful - that reason could be slavery and the one-hundred year post Civil War lynchings in the South and the fact that so many blacks are in prison, on probation or on parole for drug offenses.

There remains systematic discrimination against all minorities - women, Jews, blacks, HIspanics, but not Irish. Try being Muslin nowadays.

I don't support Barack Obama. Having said that, I have always held a similar view as Jerimiah Wright; of 911 as ''retribution' for the dropping of nuclear weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
However, 100 million people in this country are not at all liberal; and are very patriotic.
I knew the Farrahkan endorsement 3 weeks ago sunk Obama. He may become the nominee, but will not win G.E.

So much for blaming the Clintons. If they had had this info, it would have been out a long time ago.

Is that Karma or the wrath of God or of Allah? Blowback, divine retribution? Is there a little Rube Goldberg machine in the cosmos?

I doubt that any God would create mankind and then "test" him. Why not just create a good product that doesn't need further testing? When you buy a new car, you don't really "test drive" it as such expecting it to fall apart.

The religious right has unpatriotic and un-American rhetoric. An example is the KKK that did not disqualify candidates until late in the game. Strom Thurman for example. This hypocrisy of religions is asymethical. They can do it but Blacks can't.

I took a long walk Sunday morning rather than endure every talk show"s regurgitation of the remarks made by a certain candidate"s pastor. As someone who trained as a historian in his youth, I was occasionally perplexed that at times this nation"s voting turned on irrelevant issues while crises were occurring. Here were are, however, entering the sixth year of war, while our economy tanks and major financial institutions are sold for nothing, and most discussions of the Democratic race have centered on the two Senators" ethnicity, religion, or gender. Isn"t it time for someone to update James Carville"s famous advise and roar at the candidates, pundits, columnists and voters: "It"s the economy (and the war), stupid."

I can't wait for the "speech" By not dealing with this right away, he has to bring up race again and show what a "historic moment in time" this will be, blah blah blah. This is great for Hillary as we see with the widening polls in PA putting her ahead. And as he brings it up today, those voters see "an agenda" not of their interest, being put forward, by mentioning his race over and over and the challenges black citizens face today. So the white voter appears to move closer and closer to Hillary. It's like shooting yourself in the foot, damned if do, damned if you don't. But Hillary has always been with both the black and white and hispanic and female voter. You don't her having to explain herself over the decades and he's only been known a year. Imagine what else is going to pop out of the closet.
