Our Pastor's Keeper

Much has been made in the past week about the words of the Rev. Jeremiah A.Wright, Jr., Barack Obama's former pastor at Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ.

Over the years the now retired Wright has made a number of incendiary comments. People have reacted most strongly to one he made five years ago. "The government, "said Wright"," gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America. No, No, no. God damn America! That's in the Bible for killing innocent people."

Thank you Sally, your post was very illuminating. Those who are casting stones at Obama are a bunch of hypocrites. Unfortunately, everybody has said or done something politically incorrect at some point in their lives. This issue with Obama's former minister is all part of the big distraction from the real issues at hand.

I'd certainly like to hear from the pastor, being his whole lifes work is sullied by some sermons. In all of the sermons he preached, how many were incendary. Where's his congregation, speaking on his behalf? It's unfortunate that Obama might be swiftboated by his pastor, even though he's thought to be Muslim, oh the world we live in!

Thank God for Sally Quinn and Huffpo!

I've been posting this information about the hypocrasy of the msm trying to destroy Obama while they "know" about Graham, Jackson and the Clintons, not to mention Hagee and McCain , Parsley. Graham had a 20 plus year close relationship with the Clintons as their adviser. This is why Clinton has remained quiet! Thank you Sally Quinn

I believe some wise and opologetic statements from Pastor Wright are in order and would help Obama difuse this racial division. Obama deserves it. It is too bad though that he is not on record before this for having separated himself from these inflamatory statements. You can not be a leader of all people without standing for the rights of all. To insinuate that one race has claim to discrimination in this country is not only wrong (it is the 21st century) but inaccurate. Many of our forefathers had it terribly hard. In this country, at some point, we are expected to advance beyond this. Mrs. Obama has had "the first time she has been proud of this country" moment. I have a hunch that her upbringing was a lot more pampered than mine. So what's with "the first time" statement, or does she not realize her husband expects to represent "ALL" Americans?

Victim Philosophy. Don't you get it. The answer is not in Gov't. Keep waiting though. They are getting ready to ice skate in hell!

As A white preacher, I preached for 13 years in a poverty stricken community, as I figure it some 100,000 minutes and yet, not anything remotely close came out of my mouth. That stuff Wright preached was full of hatred and bitterness. It was reprehensible. I was accountable to a staff and a denomination. Even one sermon of that nature would have warranted my dismissal.

Sounds like Wright has presented you with a forgiveness opportunity. Maybe presented one to us all.

As a preacher you should have learned tolerance and/or forgiveness. Too bad for your "followers." Why not give your name so we can see the content of your sermons?

How about you finish his line of reasoning which said somthing about that God D### America IF it doesn't stop treating some of it citizens as second class or acting like God.

And how he said that JESUS THOUGHT him NOT to HATE?

How about you give us the full context of what he is saying. And stop pretending that Obama was there because he wasn't. And it has been proven that he did not attend on the days in question and when he heard it, he condemed it. I think the only thing some people still don't get is that we are talking about 2-4 sermons and that they were all recent except for the September 11th sermon. Anyways, it may linger like the Rezko stuff but it won't stop him from winning.

Hate? I don't think so. It's called telling the truth from a victim's perspective. When he says "America is run by rich white people", isn't it the truth? When he says America kills and tortures people around the world, isn't it the truth? When he says America supported the Apartheid regime in South Africa, isn't it the truth? Only racists don't see their racism because they are blinded by hate. As a christian, do you think Jesus, who spoke loudly against the evils of the roman empire will say it differently?
