Iraq War

CBS News:

One the eve of the five-year anniversary of the start of the war with Iraq, Americans continue to think the results of the war have not been worth the loss of American lives and the other costs of attacking Iraq, according to a new CBS News poll.

Today 29 percent of Americans say the results of the war were worth it; 64 percent say they were not.

In August 2003, less than six months after the beginning of the war, Americans were divided as the whether or not the results of the war were worth it. Opinion reached a low point in March 2006 - when only one in four Americans said the war was worth the costs.

As Cheney said, 'So?'
'A majority of Americans' elected Bushco.
Twice.
'A majority of Americans' loved the idea of war, but now they don't.
'A majority of Americans' is a scary proposition.

Two problems: a majority of Americans did not, in fact, elect Bush twice. Not only is the evidence of election fraud overwhelming, but even in straight terms, the number of votes Bush received was not a majority of Americans. In the first election, it was not even a majority of the Americans who voted.

kamaji,

what planet are you on? Have you forgotten the vote caging, Diebold voting machines, hanging chads, innocent American voters magically relisted as convicted felons in their thousands, and all the rest of the "Repedophile" election frauds of 2000 and 2004?

The *majority* of Americans clearly did NOT vote for Dear Leader Chimpy and his "Uncle Deadeye" Dick Cheney and their depraved "Repedophile" agenda.

A majority of Americans do not love the idea of war, thank you very much. Angry, scared, and in some cases grieving over lost loved ones, but not in love with the idea of war as you so carelessly put it.

Actually, given the fact that voter turnout in 2000 and 2004 was 51.3 and 55.3 percent, respectively, and BusCo got barely half of that, the idea of "majority" support is 100 percent bullshit.

They needed to take a poll to figure this out.

The way the war was waged, no it wasn't worth it. One goes to war with the President they have, not the one they want. One mans soldier is another mans terrorist. Interesting to think to oneself how long you and your family would go without food, water, electricity, lack of security, no way to make an income, and a foreign nation in your country before fighting. Most of us would do anything for our families. Where is Osama Bin Laden?

Only polls should count in making policy decisions. And only the poll in November REALLY counts. The media needs to stop scrutinizing other Democrats and return their focus to where it should rightfully be: defeating Republicans in the fall.

Most 29 percenters also believe that Jesus spoke English, that the Rapture is Imminent, that Professional Wresting is "real" and that the GOP has their best economic interests at heart.

So of course they believe that things are going well in Iraq despite the fact that most Iraqis think its OK to KILL AMERICANS. They believe the TV, it would never lie, and those FOX News girls sure are purty

I don't know how 29% figure it was worth it? Except that they are all die hard neocon Republican's who aren't about to admit it was a mistake come hell or high water. They aren't about to admit their leader (Bush) is a idiot and brain dead loser. So what do the polls mean anyway. When no one is bothering with them. Especially not the one's who should be paying attention aren't!

Please read the book "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" by John Perkins. It will illuminate why we went to war over there ...

... because we wanted to control the oil, bankrupt the country, build a huge military base to reign in the region, insert American companies like Haliburton to make millions, pollute their waters to keep them dependent on us, create complete instability/chaos, and ultimately control an Arab country in an imperialist arrogant way to spread our religion and beliefs ...

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SPREADING DEMOCRACY!!!! THAT IS WHAT REPUBLICANS TELL THEMSELVES TO DUPE THE PUBLIC AND MAKE THEMSELVES FEEL NOBLE!!!!

This Administration is a bunch of CRIMINALS that deserve nothing less than the rest of their life in jail.

Christ, what took them so long?

It's too late. November 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2006 were the times to be thinking about this and coming to the only possible conclusion.

Oh well, there's still 2008.

The longer we wait to bring them home, the more will come home in plastic bags or in pieces.

If only the "majority" had been more vocal in 2004. Imagine the saved lives. Imagine the money that could have fixed a bridge, built a school, or provided health care.

And from McCain, we'll get more of the same.

Think about that, Dimocrats, when you say that you'll vote for McCain if your candidate doesn't get your party's nomination; we'll be stuck with 4 more years of war in Afghanistan, Iraq with an additional war with Iran. Insane McCain loves to sing, "Bomb, Bomb Iran". Just as in '04 the headlines will read, " How can so many be so dumb?", if you persist in your snit & give Insane McCain your vote in Nov '08. Think about it again. Think of it again as you vote in Nov '08.

Hell is in Iraq. They could send Bush and Cheney over there and let the Iraqis decide what to do with them, for all I care.

The survey finds a marked improvement in perceptions of the situation in Iraq over the past year. As was the case in November, as many people say the military effort there is going well as say it is not going well (48% each). A year ago, negative perceptions of the situation in Iraq outnumbered positive assessments by greater than two-to-one (67% to 30%).

I can only assume the change is due to the muffling affect the economy and election news has had on coverage of the invasion, a classic case of no news is good news. Nevertheless, with polls in both Iraq and the US concurring that the "war" has been folly and worse, Bush and Cheney continue their bad vaudeville act of victory on the world stage.

GM,

at it again, eh? Cite your sources for the polls.

Smells like another basket of rotting fish you're serving up again. How many times must I remind you that red herrings are inedible?

When are you shipping out to Iraq?

American public support for the military effort in Iraq has reached a high point unseen since the summer of 2006, a development that promises to reshape the political landscape.

According to late February polling conducted by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press, 53 percent of Americans — a slim majority — now believe “the U.S. will ultimately succeed in achieving its goals” in Iraq. That figure is up from 42 percent in September 2007.

The percentage of those who believe the war in Iraq is going “very well” or “fairly well” is also up, from 30 percent in February 2007 to 48 percent today.

Thanks to ignorant loudmouths like you, and a compliant corporate media, people don't realize the magnitude of the political and humanitarian failures of the iraq war- hardly a call for celebration
