The economic crisis has reached such proportions that even Jon Stewart and his writers are leading with finance news at the top of The Daily Show. On Monday night's show, he introduced a new segment entitled "Broken Arrow: Crisis In The Chartland," in which he mocked Bush's record and plan to save the economy, as well as Jim Cramer's "fine" assessment of Bear Stearns last week.

The invasion of Iraq was a "success" because Iraq is now ununified, as it was under Saddam, and a weak state is in place that can not counter US control of its oil. That's why they killed off Sadam so quickly. Equally cyncial, the sub-prime debacle was a targeted asset grab plain and simple. They targeted these "unsuitable" poor families, reaped origination fees and interest, etc. and when they defaulted took the houses. Bailing out the banks instead of helping these people is akin to the tail wagging the dog. Next step (in progress) debase the currency and inflate thus stealing what is left. There has never been a state to my knowledge "of the people, by the people, for the people" that has so systematically attacked its middle and lower classes in such a ruthless fashion, not to mention the 600,000 Iraqis they killed. The right hates everyone. When they are not decimating indigenous populations or enslaving and suppressing people of colour, they are smashing unions, off-shoring jobs, plundering pension assets, etc etc etc. America may be the least people friendly state on earth. What monumental hypocrocy. I want Obama to win, but I fear for him. Remember what happened to the last handsome, intelligent, articulate, photogenic black man on the national stage. That speech he gave about race yesterday proved he is a high caliber individual and Americans don't like 'too bright' people. Just won't do. Economic and political enslavement is the new American way.

By E. J. Dionne Jr.
Tuesday, March 18, 2008:

Never do I want to hear again from my conservative friends about how brilliant capitalists are, how much they deserve their seven-figure salaries and how government should keep its hands off the private economy.

The Wall Street titans have turned into a bunch of welfare clients. They are desperate to be bailed out by government from their own incompetence, and from the deregulatory regime for which they lobbied so hard. They have lost "confidence" in each other, you see, because none of these oh-so-wise captains of the universe have any idea what kinds of devalued securities sit in one another's portfolios.

So they have stopped investing. The biggest, most respected investment firms threaten to come crashing down. You can't have that. It's just fine to make it harder for the average Joe to file for bankruptcy, as did that wretched bankruptcy bill passed by Congress in 2005 at the request of the credit card industry. [WE CAN GET SCREWED] But the big guys are "too big to fail," because they could bring us all down with them. [SUPPOSEDLY. THEY ARE CORPORATE WELFARE QUEENS STEALING MIDDLE-INCOME AMERICANS' TAX MONEY!].

That's what you get when you mix religion and politics. I hope all the Evangelicals who voted for the Chief decider are still satisfied with their choice. Their children have been protected against gay marriage but they will also inherit a large national debt.

In fairness to cramer, the question was about liquidity, as in if I have my investment account with Bear Stearns should I be moving my money out. The people getting screwed by the $2 stock price are shareholders, the people who own the company. So Stewart's mocking is off the mark.

very funny segment but if you want to get the full story, you need to also view the segment that immediately followed this one, wherein Aasif Mandvi reports on the Bear Stearns bailout while experiencing gravitational altitude correction. the title of that clip is "crisis in the chartland"

It's a crime, ladies and gentlemen. The greatest crime on earth. Don't let them get away.

If impeachment is off the table, it must be on the floor, or in the dust-bin, or somewhere. If Mme. Pelosi won't do it, maybe she needs a little ... a little "drink of water?"

Either you're going to watch your entire country go down the drain at the hands of a gang of criminals, OR you're going to enforce your own laws against them. You CANNOT enforce the law against corporations and not enforce it against the civil officers of your own government.

The Bush selections for Judges to fill LIFETIME SEATS is what will place the American people in Economic Slavery but that is still to come after NAFTA is completed.

The Bush plague of the last 7 years looks to have consequences that will reach far into the future according to all the indicators.
