American casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson won damages in London's High Court Wednesday after a newspaper accused him of "cut-throat, ruthless and despicable" business practices.

His lawyers said the settlement was one of Britain's most expensive libel actions and would cost the Daily Mail's owners about 4 million pounds ($8.06 million) in damages and costs.

Adelson, described by Forbes magazine as the world's 12th richest man, sued over a story which his lawyer Gideon Benaim said was false, distressing and embarrassing.

this headline is misleading. the article accused him of corruption, bribery and conspiracy, amongst other things. calling someone "ruthless" or "despicable" is not actionable, but accusing them of criminal behavior is. move along. nothing to see here...

Ok, Huffpo censor. Here's what I said about Shelly Adelson. I was about to ask him to help me get back on my feet at a very low point. His ferocious harangue and belittling of an employee caused me to re-think. He's now the 12th richest man in the world. Then former employee is dead. But I'm still here, too, and doing fine, thank you.

I guess when someone has a legitimate beef with someone being covered by Huffpo, the censors are afraid to run it. Where's my previous comment?

Incredible. Sixteen years ago this month, I was at the end of the rope, dangling over a dark, smelly pit of debt, with no prospects of income. Several years earlier, I had worked for Shelly Adelson (as he was called then) and swore never to got to work for him again. Desperate, I asked for an interview to come back, to which he readily agreed. In his outer office, I couldn't help hearing a ferocious, out-of-control harangue. I lliterally couldn't go through with it, and started to walk out. Shelly saw me, asked me where I wasa going. "Anyplace is better than this," I said. The very next day, work materialized, and although there have been rough patches -- and a big one on the horizon for all of us -- I couldn't sink low enought to work for Sheldon Adelson. Of course, today he's the 12th richest man in the world, but suffering from a painful disease. Life is good.

The law suit itself is proof of what an "cut-throat, ruthless and despicable" a$$hole he is.

Got Rope?

Just can't call it as you see it anymore. Free Speech available only to those who can afford it?

Well, let me say this: Adelson is cut-throat, ruthless, despicable, and an asshat pedophile. Please sue me, or should I just send you a quarter right now?
