Letterman Presents "Barack Obama 'Uh' Count"

Just goes to show that Obama needs a script.

Thinking on his feet is not his strong suit. Hell, it took him 20 years to figure out his pastor is racsist and anti-American.

You people are not accustomed to a man who THINKS before he speaks.

No doubt rehearsed, fear-filled pat answers from Hillary and Bill are all you can understand.

What I'd like to see is a Bush "duh" count.

But really, who has the time?

Geez..it's a late night COMEDY show - making fun of politicians is what they do!!!! Lighten up - no matter who will be President, they are sure to get 4 years of this from all of the late night talk show hosts. Y'all are really getting REALLY myopic!

Wow this won't go over big with Obama nutties here. Criticism of your candidate. I could see the exploding heads on this blog already.

I'm an Obama supporter and I enjoy these jabs by comedians and late night talk show hosts. They keep him human and I'm sure he finds them amusing as well.

a calibrated timing mechanism -
not unlike the genius of woody allen,
who letterman clearly worships -
as do all comedians.

this was a clunky moment of letterman
attempting to appear "balanced."
it is an embarrassment to all thinking people.

Jesus, give me a break. On the one side, people criticize Senator Obama for "only" being able to give great speeches, or acknowledge patronizingly that he is only a great orator, and now make fun of him as someone who doesn't speak well, saying "uh" too much. I really believe that Americans may just be the stupidest people on the face of the earth. No wonder the rest of the world laughs - and sadly shake their heads - at us.

Big deal. Many (if not most) public speakers do that. The brain is searching for the right word. It's not easy to search for the right words sometimes when you are trying to make an impact. Clinton says "and uh" MORE than Obama says "uh" in respective speeches. There are more important things to concentrate on.

Tonight as I watched Obama on Larry King, it first occured to me that he say's uh a lot. I always attributed his manner of speech to the fact that he is trying to find the most appropriate word. He needs to work on it, it was a little annoying tonight.

Trust me, Dave-O, stick with "Great Moments In Presidential Speeches".

You can keep mining that vein until you retire in 2010.

He does say "uh" a lot. But that probably means his brain is ticking.

Hilarious. This is harmless fun, like the "Pelosi blink count".... he's not above being made fun of. Lord knows Letterman pokes fun at Hillary too (ie/ the delegate count joke during the same show)...
Obama supporters need to lighten UP.

Ultimately, this is harmless fun. So he says "uh" a lot. The other candidates have their foibles too. Have a sense of humor, folks. It certainly beats the lame excrement that SNL has been squirting out of late.

Someone should do the same type of video with Hillary and her "you know"s. Just listen to her next time she's not reading from a script -- it will drive you crazy!

I've noticed his tendency to "uh", it's human, so what? He wrote his own highly acclaimed speech and the books he's written, he actually wrote himself. Hillary did not. In fact most politicians hire ghost writers but Barack Obama did not. So when he's responding and looking for the words, they are his words. Nicely done. A few "uhs' here and there aren't so bad. At least he knows how to say nuclear.

It's funny. That's all. Barrack Obama is not exempt from having joke s made.

Let me just say that not everything is aimed at "destroying him." Especially not Late Night comedy. But for those of you who want to us this joke on a late night show as a serious critique of Obama's speaking style or rhetorical ability - how sad for you.

Maybe that's why he made sure that the speech in Philadelphia -- THE SPEECH -- was on the teleprompter? ;)

Uh...I remember when Ted Kennedy used to do the same thing, drove me nuts. Please get some speech therapy Obama .

That was uh.....pretty damn funny. Laugh my fellow Dems, it will do us some good. Not every comment or observation about Obama is meant to destory him.

When I first started doing radio in another lifetime many years ago I interviewed an up-&-coming science fiction writer off the air. When I played the tape back I was horrified at all the "uh"s and "like"s and "yknow"s. So I went to work with a tape deck and a trusty razor blade (none of this sissy computer stuff back in the golden age) to clean the interview up. In a moment of perverse experimentation I saved the cut snippets and spliced them together in a 2 or 3 minute tape of "uh uh and uh like uh know" that I would play every now & then to torture my listeners with ("Tell me where the nuclear device is or I'll play it again!!!!"). Especially if they complained about any occasional bagpipe music jags.

What's impressive is that this is ALL Letterman could come up with to mock him about. Everyone says "uh" a lot, actually.

Wow, what comic geniuses. Old, tired, boring comic geniuses.

I wonder why he does that so much? Is he pausing to think up better phrasing, checking to make sure he doesn't gaffe, or what?
