Tina Fey: Jon Stewart Doesn't Make People Laugh

First Posted: 03/28/08 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:25 PM ET

Tina Fey Jon Stewart

Tina Fey wrote the movie "Mean Girls," but in the latest issue of Reader's Digest she's playing the part in real life. In an interview with the magazine's Jancee Dunn, Fey disses "The Daily Show" and Jon Stewart, who she says makes audiences clap more than laugh:

RD: Do you see your humor as a gift? Fey: I always think of everything from a mother's point of view now. Every kid has something they're good at, that you hope they find and gravitate toward. This is my thing. I don't think I was supposed to be a gymnast and accidentally landed on this.

RD: Do you still get that hit when you get a good laugh?
Fey: Absolutely. My favorite day at 30 Rock is Thursday, when the show airs. At lunch we screen the episodes. For everyone to watch together, to see the stuff we all worked on, to hear the crew laugh — it's great fun.

RD: What pleases you more, applause or laughter?
Fey: Laughter. You can prompt applause with a sign. My friend, SNL writer Seth Meyers, coined the term clapter, which is when you do a political joke and people go, "Woo-hoo." It means they sort of approve but didn't really like it that much. You hear a lot of that on [whispers] The Daily Show.

I guess i never realized how dumb and downright cruel the Daily Show supporters are. I mean someone said Tina Fey is a worthless person and another said she needs to go home and raise her kid and most others used this opportunity to take cheap shits at her looks or her iq or even her sexuality; very sad.

I mean, seriously, what is wrong with you people? Aside from the fact that she never dissed Jon Stewart (just read the article) she never even mentions him and it seems that the RD author added the "daily show" bit. Do you really believe every headline you read, are you that dumb and naive?

Also, for those of you who continue to say things about her current work at SNL, it seems she hasn't worked there for 3 years, so....................

once more, for the record, the full article (for those of you who are not too lazy to actually read a whole 20 question interview. http://www.rd.com/celebrities/tv-stars/tina-fey-interview/article.html

and for those of you too lazy to read, here is an audio of the same interview: http://media.rd.com/rd/video/rd_video/tina_fey_interview_96K.mp3

now grow up.

"I always think of everything from a mother's point of view now. " No you don't. Just a wildly manipulate statement. We are supposed to love you because you're a mother.

I've laughed more in 1/2 an hour of daily show than 2 whole seasons of that SNL crap. If the dead silence and moans you get from watching SNL counted against the number of laughs, I'm afraid that they are now eating into the resevoir of laughs from the 70's and 80's.

SNL hasn't been consistently funny since 1978. Most of it is inane. Barely tolerable. What's 30 Rock?LOL.

he's a bit more intelligent than she is, so naturally, his humor will be a bit more evolved. she thinks being funny and giggley is a greater gift than pointing out ironies, analyzing our culture, and commenting on the human condition? its like contrasting H. L. Mencken with Martin Lawrence.

tina fey is a competent comic. jon stewart is an established and respected social satirist.

I love your H.L. Mencken/Martin Lawrence line!

This is so sad and disgusting...did anyone actually read the three questions and answers? Or just the salacious headline? She's absolutely correct in her assertion. It's not a slam, as much as it is a fact. The same thing has gone on during Bill Maher's show for weeks now. He seems pissed off too, last night he was giving off the "if looks could kill" to his silent audience.

There are people who think Tiny Fey is funny? It takes all kinds, I guess.

Although I'm just bitter that "Studio/Sunset Strip" was cancelled while "30 Rock" enjoys moderate success. Still.

Oh no she di'int!

I agree with 100% of all the negative posts about Tina Fey. But the main issue is that Fey does not
deserve any of us bloggers wasting time (including me) discussing such a insignificant person.
Bottom Line: She is a worthless person with nothing to contribute to society.

She's just jealous that TDS got Kristen Schaal and nobody watches the networks anymore. Really, anybody worth having as a viewer is out of the house at 11:30 on Saturday Night.

hey tina! 1972 called. they'd like their eyeglasses back.

I remember the original shows and cast of SNL. Belushi, Curtain, Chase, Akroyd, Radner...et al. The show really had an edge, and was a pioneering TV program.
When the original cast started moving on, the show lost it's edge, and got kinda wimpy. I tuned out, just couldn't take one more gay, Will Farrell routine. Before Farell, but his cheerleader bit was sooo gay.

"What qualifies [Hillary Clinton] to be president? Because she was married to the president?... Then Robin Givens ought to be the heavyweight champion of the world."--Tracy Morgan, SNL

Tina's projecting. Weekend Update truly is clapter-ville these days. Tracy Morgan's completely unPC outburst excepted.

Tina, You're cute in a clerk/typist from Manhattan kinda way. But you are not funny, you cant act,, and you are boring. Do us a favor and shut your cute little trap and raise your kids better.
06:49 PM on 03/21/2008
Shocking: I like Tina Fey & I like Jon Stewart. They are both funny.
09:30 PM on 03/21/2008
I thought Tina no longer writes for SNL.
