Rep. Tom Reynolds (R-N.Y.) has scheduled a noon press conference on Thursday, and GOP insiders say the veteran lawmaker is going to announce his retirement from Congress, effective at the end of this year.

Reynolds is now the 29th House Republican to retire, and his departure puts another winnable seat in play for Democrats. Another GOP incumbent, Rep. Wayne Gilchrest (Md.), was defeated in a Republican primary.

Good riddance. Maybe he'll have more time to hang out with his buddy Mark Foley now.

Hasta La Vista Neocon!
He probably doesn't want to have to answer for the $1,000,000 that got embezzled from the NRCC when he was the Chairman. JON POWERS FOR CONGRESS!!!!!!

Ha! Best news in weeks. I recently moved, but this guy used to be my congressman. The guy is a total douchebag, but he is a local media darling for his perceived ability to "bring home the bacon". We've had a chance to replace him in the last 2 election cycles with a very good Libertarian-leaning Democrat, but the local media has been able to influence our elections in Reynolds' favor.

Look for Congressman Jack Davis in '08.

I'm in that district. I couldn't be happier to see this guy bailing! He headed the RCCC, and besides being the one who talked Foley into running again, he was able to divert extra funds to his own attack ads at the last minute. As it was, only incumbency and a heavily-gerrymandered district saved him. The only highlight was that my mother-in-law, who always voted Republican, refused to pull the lever for him.

Can you talk that blowhard Peter King into retireing to, I'm really tired of seeing his face on my TV.
It's funny when these guys have to spend real money to defend their seats, it's time to go.

Weren't it the Repubs that coined the term fiscal conservative. Interesting since Regan & Bush each spent more that all past Presidents combined
