"Yoo-hoo!" Fox Anchor Weirdly Chipper About First Day Of Spring, Massive Floods That Killed 13 People

Terrible spring floods have been devastating the midwest over the past few days, killing 13 people and displacing thousands more in Ohio, Indiana, northern Kentucky, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Oklahoma and Texas, and there are fears that the worst is yet to come. You'd think that news reports about such things would be read in appropriately somber tones, given the severity of the situation. Or maybe not! This morning, "Fox and Friends" anchor Gretchen Carlson was so excited about the first day of spring that she couldn't contain herself. "Guess what? It's the first day of spring! Yoo-hoo!" Chirped Carlson. "But it's not so great for some people in the country — heavy rains have swollen rivers and streams and across the Midwest - 13 people have lost their lives — we're going to tell you why the worst may be yet to come." In the background, an upbeat tempo underscored the chipper morning feel, matching Carlson's tone, if not the news story she was sharing with her viewers. Odd. Perhaps she's been getting tips from Ainsley Earhardt?

And I think that this is the best way to handle them. Only certain types of people are going to be watching fox. I have not seen any professionalism on the part of some of these characters for the last two weeks.

The left's OBSESSION with Fox news only serves to give it more air time. I really don't get it. I'm conservative and I CAN'T STAND Fox news. And yet, the ONLY way that I know what Fox news is reporting is by reading liberal blogs and other MSM sources.

Whatever they are doing at Fox, it seems to be working. They get 10 times the air time of any other media source because liberals can't seem to get enough of it. I wish it would just all go away. It's like a gradeschool popularity contest.

Yes, the other media should stop promoting FauxNews, but they are too tempting a target to not take shots at them. FauxNews has credibility with the same people who read and believe Ann Coulter.
FauxNews does one thing better than the others......the shuttle launches..­...FauxNew­s doesn't bring in some knucklehead to talk over NASA's communications with the shuttle. Silence can be golden.
Gretchen Carlson can't help it.....she actually believe that Miss America is relevent and that it is more than a beauty contest.

I recall this deadhead when she was "anchoring" at CBS on Saturday mornings. Her best work was when she popped up on Jeopardy. Will Ferrell and Norm MacDonald couldn't have been in better company in one of those SNL parodies.

This is more a mistake by the producers of the show. It's a jarring transition from an upbeat story into a tragic one. Unless they were doing it as a joke, in which case they're just plain jerks.

I don't know. She did an upbeat thing with the announcement of Spring and then went into a more somber tone for the weather headline. It was a tough transition (crappy news writing) but she did the best you could with the material.

I don't see the purpose of this thread really. It's red meat, sure, but FOX probably has better stuff available.

Any semi-conscious news anchor would have said upon receiving their script, "There's no way I'm going to celebrate the first day of spring and then move immediately to the 13 flood deaths. Take that the hell out of the prompter." Unless celebrating spring was her own editorial decision, in which case it's purely her being an idiot, and not the writers.

If you've ever done live TV (and who hasn't?) then you would know that sometimes you don't get the script in advance. Sometimes you just read the stuff live. But who knows? Maybe she did, but maybe she didn't.

My point was she did a decent job with a tough transition.
