Clinton On Obama

The New York Times reports that a top aide to Barack Obama accused former President Bill Clinton of employing "divisive attacks" to promote his wife's candidacy:

As Senator Barack Obama folded his arms and looked on, one of his leading military advisers forcefully defended Mr. Obama's patriotism here Saturday and accused former President Bill Clinton of trying to employ "divisive attacks" to promote his wife's presidential candidacy.

Mr. Clinton, in a speech to voters in North Carolina on Friday, said "it would be a great thing if we had an election year where you had two people who loved this country and were devoted to the interest of this country."

At a town meeting here Saturday, retired Air Force Gen. Merrill A. McPeak, who is a co-chairman of Mr. Obama's campaign, read the quote from Mr. Clinton. A few members of the audience gasped and hissed at the former president's words.

"Let me say first, we will have such an election this year because both Barack Obama and John McCain are great patriots who love this country and are devoted to it -- so is Hillary Clinton," General McPeak said, speaking over loud applause. "Any suggestion to the contrary is flat wrong."

Mr. Obama, on his first trip to Oregon before the state's primary on May 13, did not address the comments from Mr. Clinton. He stood a few feet away from the retired general as he made his remarks before a crowd of more than 1,500 people in a Medford community center.

Keep reading the New York Times report.

The Clinton campaign has reined in the former president in the past after he made other similarly divisive remarks, including:

Calling Obama's Iraq War claims a "fairy tale":

"Give me a break. This whole thing is the biggest fairy tale I've ever seen," Clinton had said in accusing Obama of distorting his stance on the war.

Telling Charlie Rose that a vote for Obama would be like "rolling the dice":

In a hard-changing interview with Charlie Rose tonight, Bill Clinton said Americans who are prepared to choose someone with less experience, are prepared to "roll the dice" about the future of America. "It's less predictable, isn't it? When is the last time we elected a president based on one year of service before he's running?"

"What do you want to do -- whether you think it matters that, I mean, in theory, no experience matters," Clinton said. "In theory, we could find someone who is a gifted television commentators and let them run. They'd have only one year less experience in national politics..."

Listen to Bill Clinton's clip. He is obviously answering a question. The weasel news producers have edited it out. The question was about a comparison of his wife and John McCain.
Just because Obama was left out doesn't mean some sort of blasphemy took place.
Give me a break. :)

I couldn't agree more. The Obama campaign has thrown so many good people under the bus by pushing race and race baiting while claiming they are going to unite Americans. Grandma Obama, Geraldine Ferraro, Bill Clinton are just the beginning! Wait until Ted Kennedy gets smart and re-thinks his endorsement. Bill Richardson and Ted did betray Mrs. Clinton. Richardson would be a nobody if not for the Clinton's. Ted Kennedy was working with Hillary on health care before Obama reached puberty and Ted seemed to forget the absolute thrashing the Clinton's took for using our military to find John Kennedy Jr., his wife and sister-in-laws bodies. Loyalty should count for something! As a longtime democratic elected official, I cannot see Obama winning if he is our nominee and damn-it,I want to win!!!!!

Yeah...I get the feeling that while out campaigning, President Clinton is to always mention Obama and promote Obama 's candidacy.
This has turned into absolute foolishness. Unfortunately, the Huffington Post, Daily Kos,and many of the "main street media" are anxiously playing this game.
If Obama gets the nomination, he will have a splintered party that will not unite because of these tactics. Add to this Pastor Wright's videos and Obama will have limited support.

FYI to my fellow demacrats.

John Kerry made one mistake in life. Standing up against a war he fought in. That was 2004.

Al Gore made on mistake in life, being Bill Clinton's vice president for the best 8 years America has seen since Johnson.

Neither Kerry or Gore were tough and reasoned enough to beat the machine Barack or Hillary will face in 2008.

I think Hillary can beat that machine. Hate me all you want. But I think it's true.

Hate you? Why? There are worse sins than merely being clueless. Even candidates who win by a landslide have countless detractors.

Want to gauge the success of a candidate? Look at: amount of money raised, from number of donors, the number of people who attend events, and the breadth of supporter demographics. Obama wins hands down in every category over everyone--Democrat or Republican.

Every generation needs a revolution, as Jefferson said. We're fired up and ready to go. Hillary has had a chance to show whom she can beat and she has not won her party's nomination--even with Rush's help. Obama has demonstrated that intelligent hope can beat the hate machine.

Obama supporters are exhillerated at his message of unity and healing, while Hillary supporters are hunkered down growling that she can be meaner than the next guy. We know. And we reject.

So now Bill Clinton is evoking the Reverend Wright "God Dam America" speech against Senator Obama. Just plain disgusting. While I supported Mr. Clinton in the past, I now think it would have been better if he lost his impeachment hearing and went to jail. At least then, people would not give a known liar any credit in the media.

From a conservative's point of view - I simply cannot understand why the Democratic party is letting this go on. I do not see any way for Hillary to clinch the nomination without destroying Obama (whom I greatly admire) but this will further fracture the party. The Dems were almost a shoo in to get back the White House but the longer you let this go, the better for Mcain. Why don't the party leaders tell Hill to stop? She is a disaster, her campaign has been a disaster and if she were to win the nomination, it will be a disaster for the Dems in November.

Unapologetically Black. That really bothers white people. That's what it says on Rev. Wright's church website.

Why won't black people just shut up and pretend like discrimination and prejudice don't exist anymore? Can't they just pretend ot have decent jobs and good educations? Can't we just pretend that the funding for schools isn't racially discriminatory? Maybe it'll go away.

Maybe I can just pretend that when I go to work I don't see maybe one or two black faces in a sea of white?

White America is a hateful, bigoted, entrenched power structure. Look at the way we treat Mexicans who come here to do our dirty manual labor for us. People all over America are screaming for their heads! They risk everything to come here to do some hard or dirty job nobody here wants. And we have the nerve to be outwardly hateful and combative towards these poor wretches. They just want a few of the scraps that fall off of our tables. We should be welcoming them.

This is what Rev. Wright is talking about.

Injustice. Discrimination. Slavery. And all the rest of the story.

Someone is trying to tell you that Rev. Wright doesn't have a right to express his views. That his words and his views aren't American or worthy of a good fair hearing. It's a lie. Fight the lie. Expose these dangerous bigots for what they are. Do you think there aren't white people out there trying to use the Rev. Wright tp scapegoat blacks? The lazy good for nothing black man? The uneducated criminal black man? The dangerous and volatile black man?

Maybe black people are getting pissed off and are sick of listening to white people? Maybe black people don't believe white people. Maybe they never did. I don't. And since I'm free I don't have to.

I don't know what MNDADDY's problem with the racist pastor is, but as for me. I have a problem with a man who preaches that the US Government created the AIDS virus as a weapon to murder millions of African Americans. I'm gay, I've witnessed friends that I loved die from AIDS. Im also old enough to remember how a majority of Americans blamed gay people for the disease. For Pastor Wright to use the death and suffering of millions of people from HIV/AIDS to justify his own warped racist hatred is not only disgusting, but dangerous as well. And I definately have a problem with that. It's sad that anyone would try to excuse that type of garbage.

I understand what pastor Wright is saying in the little of what I've heard. The question for Democrats isn't where my heart lies, it is what America will see in a general election coming this Fall.

The 527s will eat that stuff up . . . I want, as all Democrats, to end the war in Iraq. NOW!!

One of my main "problems" with the racist pastor is that He preaches that the AIDS virus was created by the US Goverment as a weapon to murder millions of African Americans. Im gay, I've had to witness friends that I loved dearly die from HIV/AIDS. I've also seen Americans blame gay people for this disease, and I know the pain and degradation that brings. For Pastor Wright to use the death and suffering of millions of people from HIV/AIDS to justify his own warped racist hatred is DISGUSTING, and quite frankly dangerous. It's sad to see anyone try to excuse the filth this man spews.

some more lies.

He also was filmed in South Carolina telling a large African American audience that they were having being "Hoodwinked" and the old "okeydoke" was being played on them. These words have long been known as code words within the Black community to imply racism by Whites.

You are so full of it, it's coming out of your ears. Did you see the latest Gallup poll? (Not that I think the Gallup poll is important or special. But it does serve to illustrate my point.) Obama has taken the lead over Clinton. If what you say is true how could that possibly have happened? It leads me to believe that Clinton's supporters have become so desperate that they are pulling tools out of the Bush administration's Orwellian bag of tricks -- if you say something and repeat it often enough, then it is true.

If the Obama/Clinton campaign were a horse race, Obama would be crossing the finish line while Clinton just managed to exit the starting gate. The truth is: THERE IS NO RACE. Obama has an insurmountable lead. Why the media continues to feed the American people that Clinton still has a chance to win the nomination is just outrageous.

Bill Clinton continues Naderizing himself, destroying a once laudable reputation and legacy in pursuit of a questionable and obsolete goal.

At least with Nader, the social and governmental aspirations, though unattainable, would be generally desirable and to the benefit of the great mass of Americans. With Bill, it's just more self-aggrandizing dynasty-building.

Both attempts are doomed and can only cause destruction.
