Us Deaths Pass Four Thousand

The death toll for U.S. solders in Iraq has reached 4000:

The overall U.S. death toll in Iraq rose to 4,000 after four soldiers were killed in a roadside bombing in Baghdad, a grim milestone that is likely to fuel calls for the withdrawal of American forces as the war enters its sixth year.

The American deaths occurred Sunday, the same day rockets and mortars pounded the U.S.-protected Green Zone in Baghdad and a wave of attacks left at least 61 Iraqis dead nationwide.

Watch CNN's veteran Iraq correspondent Michael Ware discuss the grim milestone, moments after the news crossed the wires:

4000!! Inexcusable. Bush and Cheney should be thrown out as fast as you can say "Mission Accomplished".

I like the quote that the last presidential election was an intelligence test, and America failed. we had our chance to throw them out. NOTHING has changed since the last election. the people who voted for them just flip-flopped almost immediately after stepping out of the voters booth.

If not for the election-rigging in Ohio, we might well have voted them out.

When Bush and Cheney eventually skulk out of DC with their heads held defiantly high, I'd love to see a banner saying:

"Nocturnal Emission Accomplished"

Cherchez le guillotine. Figuratively speaking, of course.

Yep.
Signed the first authorization, every funding bill since, AND Kyl-Lieberman.

Not in part, completely. However, funding soldiers already in battlefield is a different matter than ordering invasion of a country that never did us any harm, and causing hundreds of thousand murders.

I am reposting this because it was way back on page 9 and I want to see if anyone has an answer to this?

4,000 dead soldiers = Tens of thousands of family members without their loved one in the name of Bush and Cheney. So many children without their daddy's or their mommy's, wives without their husbands, and husbands without their wives. I believe this would be a very hard number to swallow for a lot of American military families. This doesn't include the thousands and thousands of wounded.

I have a quesition if anyone knows the answer. How many soldiers have actually died because of wounds they received in Iraq, but died in another place like Germany etc.? Are their deaths counted in that 4,000? I was told that only the soldiers that actually died in Iraq would be counted. I would like any information on this if possible or where to find it. So what is the real number?

I've heard the same thing, PDX.
The Lancet website might have the actual figures.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:35 AM on 03/24/2008

The deaths are only counted if it occurred as a result of enemy fire and the soldier took his/her last breath in country. The do not count soldiers who die as a result of combat injuries once they leave Iraq. Even if they die a minute after take off in route to another army hospital facility. They also don't count suicides and friendly fire. American contractors working in supporting roles for the military are also not counted.

An urban legend that refuses to die.

A soldier who dies of wounds received in Iraq is counted in the total.

Okay, if Al Qaeda detonated a nuclear device in the heart of Manhatten would the entire country bow down and allow Osama bin Laden to become dictator of America?

You people need to learn some proportion. England's way of life was threatened during WWII because the Nazis had an army of several million. Al Qaeda has maybe 20,000 adherents worldwide. They do NOT threaten our way of life.

Quit watching 24 and start learning something useful.

Um, those 20,000 have had a large impact on our economy and our wrecked military. They played Bush like a puppet. And Bush played Americans like puppets. Anyone who thinks it's ok to fight in Iraq only to "keep them over there" is a coward. Iraq had nothing to do with attacks on us, and every time I hear that particular argument I cringe for the way we look like a huge country of cowards.

But what about the U.N. sanctions and Security Council mandates? Should we enforce them? If not us, whom? 12 years of a luke-warm defacto war with a dictator not enuff? You set the limit then. What would you recommend? 15 years? 20 years? 30?

Is AQ our only fundamentalist threat? Are there others? So 19 fundamentalists killed 3,000 Americans and drove the U.S. deeper into a RECESSION. What would one NUKE do to Manhatten? London? Tokyo? How about all three at once? Worldwide economic DEPRESSION.

Michael Ware has been a journalist in Iraq for many years now, as a freelancer, as correspondent for Time and now CNN, he has access to players on both sides. Ware on Real Time, stated that the US is not fighting al qaeda in Iraq, and anyone who tells you different is a used car salesman, period. Ware went on to say that the insurgency dose not give a dam about OBL. He also said that troops fear that the country and the press have lost interest in them and the war. They would rather see a debate about getting serious about this thing than the apathy they are watching now. Ware finally said that Colon Powell was right, we broke the place and we better figure out a way to sticky tape it back together quickly. Thank you Mr. Bush for acting out your screwy ideas about why your daddy lost reelection and thank you Mr. Cheney for showing us what a tough guy you are with some else’s kids. Thank you Mr. Rove and your WIG friends for using fear and Iraq as a calculation for the 2002 election.

Ware thinks the troops in Iraq are concerned with American apathy about their war, now just imagine how those stranded in Afghanistan feel!

McCain offers you 100 years more of death plus a couple of extra wars to boot. Just think, when our jobs are all shipped overseas, our dollar is worth a penny, we can't pay for our fuel and heating oil, we're bankrupt from our medical bills encountered when we had an accident on our decaying infrastructure we'll be following the great Prussian McCain or Hillary into Iran and watching more of our soldiers die.

Meanwhile Bin Laden's Al Qaeda will have spread to 70 countries instead of spreading from 5 to 60 in the Bush era.

What will determine a win or a loss for this war? We all know that Suddam Had nothing to do with 9/11 and yet we went to war. In the mean time the real people who was responsible are getting stronger in the FORGOTTEN WAR in Afghanistan. Take in the fact that we lost over three thousand on that fateful day in 2001, the total number of servicemen and women in Iraq and Afghanistan I think the extremists can say they've won or are winning!

SO Sad!

Hillary Supporters:

There is just no way to deny that Hillary always has been and remains a pro-war candidate. If that is not true, please answer these questions:

Why did Hillary side with the NeoCons on Iraq war authorization?

Why did Hillary oppose Levin Amendment?

Why did Hillary support Kyl/Lieberman Amendment?

Of course, you are free to support whoever you want. Just don't be hypocrites and say you are outraged at these 4000 dead and at the war.

Come out and say that you are knowingly supporting a pro-war candidate.

Hillary's real plan for Iraq: stay until the war is "won":

I did not see anywhere in that more than one year old article that Hillary supported that plan. In fact the article didn't mention her at all.
So this is what I consider a low blow. And btw. I support Obama.

And, of course, your statement about Obama is a blatant lie. Your statement about Hillary is right. She has always sided with the NeoCons, continues to do it, and is promoting the same NeoCon approach for the future.
