With little-noticed procedural and policy moves over several years, Bush administration officials have made it substantially more difficult to designate domestic animals and plants for protection under the Endangered Species Act.

Controversies have occasionally flared over Interior Department officials who regularly overruled rank-and-file agency scientists' recommendations to list new species, but internal documents also suggest that pervasive bureaucratic obstacles were erected to limit the number of species protected under one of the nation's best-known environmental laws.

I wonder how many of these domestic endangered species inhabit areas that are rich in natural resources. IMHO, since our elected reps have plundered so many other countries for their natural resources over the years, they had to run out of options at some point. So what better place to plunder than your own country? Environment shmenvironment, as long as the elites stay rich.

With all due respect, why should I care? Species had been changing as long as life existed. Why should I care that salmon in 1 lake is gone? There are species which are major part of earth biodivercity and there are species which are about to die out ... Why do we care that it happens 100 years earlier?

I believe in protection of wild life, but shouldn't it be reasonable. Why are we going nuts about a fish which exist in 1 lake?
