Obama's campaign has stopped promoting its fundraising success, but the ticker is still ticking, and the growth doesn't seem even to have stopped accelerating, according to this graphic on his site: He's close to an unprecedented 2 million donors this year, source of many millions of dollars already and, likely, even more to come.

My boyfriend and I contributed money to the Obama campaign on Friday. It was the first time in our lifetime that we ever gave money to a politicans campaign --- we look forward to donating more.

It's only fair to recognize some of Obama's increased donor numbers is connected to the PAC MoveOn. After Edwards suspended his candidacy MoveOn PAC members voted 70% to 30% to endorse Obama. The PAC has over 3 million members and many of the 70% are donating as individuals instead of as a PAC. MoveOn members are encouraged, regularly, by MoveOn emails, to donate as individuals. This is the first time MoveOn endorsed in a primary.

Completely irrelevant. Just because MoveOn endorses (or any other group) does not compel any of its members to take it upon themselves to individually donate.

It's done on their own merits.

Great point~

It's always valuable to know where the money comes from. After the endorsement, in less than a week, MoveOn raised over 7 million dollars for Obama. I would never call MoveOn or 7 million dollars irrelevant.

I'm glad to see this huge financial advantage. Because after mentioning (in his race speech) that corporations were the problem, I don't think Obama is gonna get much free press. Then again, most people ignored that clear indication that Obama is a progressive. Most people never even realized that was part of the speech.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:59 AM on 03/24/2008

Another clear indication of his progressive tendency is the fact that his response to explaining race in America was to refer to the Constitution as his guide post.

If Rev. Martin Luther King were around today, he would be viciously vilified and attacked just as Obama is being attacked today. remember in his time, he was profiled as a communist by right wing groups because he opposed the war in Vietnam. They charged he was a traitor, unpatriotic willing to capitulate to America's enemies. Sound familiar?

So when we have in our midst the real thing of which greatness is made of, let's not fail to recognize it. let's embrace, promote and uphold the truth.

While were spending so much energy fighting amongst(myself included) ourselves trying to prove who is the greatest liar and who has the most baggage McCain is gathering his forces and gearing up for the general election. How long are we going to be divided and allow the Republicans to present a united front and begin an all out assault on our Democratic party?

Yes I said OUR party. Yours(Clinton) and Mine(Obama). This endless loop of Obama and Clinton bashing has got to stop and we must find some way to unite. I will take the first step. I'M REACHING OUT to all Hillary supporters in an effort to bridge the gap that is between us and ask you to take that step with me. I will honestly disclose that I have been one that also participated in the criticism of Hillary Clinton in support of my candidate Barack Obama (you can look up all my post and read them for yourself) but I WILL NOT CONTINUE to add to the divisiveness that has occurred between us. Instead I will begin the process to promote the much needed healing of our party and I ask that others join me. This is the post that I wrote in the blog titled,"Color-Coded Hillary Alerts" from this site. I ask that everyone please read it and offer your honest thoughts about it.

I'm not saying that this is the end all to all the strife that has coiled around us in a heated battle but give me some points for trying.

From Color-Coded Hillary Alerts Posted 3/12/2008

This is becoming really ugly and I don't like where it is headed. The Democratic Party cannot, cannot become engulfed or entwined in the culture of racial politics. I'm a Barack Obama supporter, not because I'm African American but because I strongly believe that it is time for a change. I did not support this war and I was against going to war with Iran. I don't support Hillary, not because she is a White woman(I voted for Bill Clinton twice) but that she voted for the war in Iraq. I'm anti-war PERIOD.

I have become increasingly upset with all of the statements that has come from the Clinton camp and their surrogates. Even after the South Carolina dust up I didn't want to believe that race was purposely interjected in the campaign but that it would eventually be interjected in the Presidential campaign because he is an African American BUT I did not think it would be from the Democrats, I thought it was going to be from the Republicans.

I have fond memories of the Clintons' from the 90s because I was swept up in the message of Hope that Clinton(Bill) himself was touting. He was a captivating fresh breath of air that was blowing across a nation that desperately needed and wanted a renewal from the stagnation that crept across the country and was seeping from the Bush 41 White House.

I keep returning to the 92 Presidential race because the dynamics of the two candidates(Barack and Bill) and (George Sr. and McCain) are so similar. Bill(Barack) was a Governor from Arkansas and was the new kid on the block. Not much was known about him but when he spoke it was like you knew him all of your life. He had the ability to make a connection with people, he drew you into his life and he made you feel that you were more than welcomed in his. He proudly spoke of his humble upbringing and identified with others with similar backgrounds. He was simply my Kennedy . I cannot explain it any other way. I listened with envy to my parents talk about the Kennedy's and how they loved them so much. My parents even remember where they were when they found out that he(John) was dead. It was a somber reverence of the past but they too saw a glimmer of Kennedy in Bill Clinton. I listened for hours as they spoke about how Kennedy could mesmerize you with his words of peace, unity and equality. That was Bill Clintons' message and he was my Kennedy...then.

George Sr(McCain) was a war hero. He served his country proudly and with honor. His terms in government was far superior than that of his then opponent Bill Clinton. His knowledge of foreign policy and national security far exceeded that of a mere Governor(it's not a put down I'm just reflecting the sentiment of Bush 41 attitude towards Bill Clinton then) but something was missing...he could not make a connection nor could he understand that America was changing. The Cold War was over. The Berlin wall fell and Saddam was defeated but America was in agony. She was suffering from an economic meltdown and the Leader of the free world didn't have a clue. America was ripe for change and Bill Clinton knew it.

Despite all of the overwhelming opposition to his candidacy and the swarm of attacks that were both political and personal Bill Clinton(Barack Obama) found it in himself to rise above it all. That spoke to the character of the man. He knew who he was and was comfortable with himself. He could easily and eerily slip in between the line that drew both close and far from a little place that he called HOPE(Chicago).

I too voted for Bill, both terms. He was so cool. Appearing on MTV, playing the Saxaphone and admitting he smoke some gonja...even if he didn't inhale. Yeah bill reached the young people the way no other president had since Kennedy. I sang "Happy Days are here Again," both terms. Bill was a great president, not many people can argue that.

I would like to believe that come November, If Hillary is the Nominee, that I will support her. But honestly I feel like Hillary is willing to take the whole party down, the country even, if she doesn't get this nomination. I sat that in light of the commercials she is producing for the republicans. Like the one where she says "that both her and McCain have the experience to be President on day one and Obama has a speech." Or maybe the one where she says, "if Michigan and Florida don't have a revote then the legitimacy of the Democratic Nominee will be in question." These commercials will end with "I'm John McCain and I approve." I question her Integrity. I know she wants to win, I get that. But at what exspense??

I hope though that when all said and done, Hillary's antics don't cloud Bill's presidency. And really Bill is not the same man he was back in 1992. He was the most powerful man in the world, and as much as Hillary wants it so does he. To say that I know she does not act alone, but also not to say that They would not do a good job. Right now though I am disappointed in the "kitchen sink tactics." And now to imply that Obama doesn't love this country, Bill is a smart man, he makes few mistakes.

Obama reaches young people today not becouse he's cool, but becouse he calls on all people to be better people. I like that he's not in the pockets of the lobbyist, he owes them nothing. He has the unique ability to inspire and motivate, thats rare. In the face of chaos and fear he is capable of being objective. He has the strength to stand up for whats right and unfortunetly that too is rare. Integrity should be his middle name. Thats why I'm voting for Barack Obama.

meltingpot101: your comments are laudable but not believable."He has the strength to stand up for what is right.. integrity should be his middle name"; if he does have that, then he should be courageous and answer the questions about his pastor, completely and unequivocally. He has not answered this simple question : where was he and where was his family when such disdainful statements were preached by his Pastor. A man can not truly inspire or motivate without integrity, without accessing the truth. Can you withstand racist comments from your Pastor? Can YOU sit and listen to such rantings anywhere and not decide to say, move away ??

From the nature of your posts, it seems to me that although you benefit from the hard fights that were waged against RACISM and SEXISM you take the great progress we have made for granted. Seems Mr. Obama does too. All of us who fought those battles didn't. You think you know racism? You weren't around when people were being killed of ALL COLORS to fight for the rights we have today. You think we don't know we have more to do? How condescending of you since your "battle" for racial equality seems to be contained to whining on the internet.
Hillary will win, and she will SAVE our country because she is more than WORDS and she was there in the trenches fighting the good fight for civil rights. What a shame you don't realize that. She was there furing Watergate, she WAS in Kosovo and DID participate. How sad so many young people are being sucked in and influenced by the right wing owned media. Don't you get it? They WANT Obama to be the nominee because the KNOW THEY CAN BEAT HIM IN NOVEMBER. Geeez, you Obamabots are gullible.

I don't think most Obama supporters feel Sen. Clinton has not done great things for this country. I am a New Yorker, and voted for her twice for senate. However, when there is an viable alternative to Clinton, who does not bring in baggage (much of it would be Bill Clinton) or a divisive perspective on politics, it's worth taking look at Obama.

Unlike you, I don't try to predict who Republicans want as a nominee, but I know that they will try to destroy whoever that person is, Clinton or Obama.

The real question is will Dems unite to support the nominee?

You're right. Hillary is not without merit, but her dismissing of Obama and praise of McCain brings to question which party she supports. Also, her disproven claims of risking her life in Bosnia, of peace in Ireland, of not supporting NAFTA, .... bring up the problem of Clintons and truth.

I have an aunt in the long care center, age 87 she too wants change and she clearly states she is ready to turn the page. That a retired school teacher voice, again age 87. Who cares about whom the Republicans '''want" as the Democratic nominee? Who doubts that they will employ the usual smear ( swift-boat ) tactics against whomever is their opponent? The ISSUES remain the ISSUES and they are represented by the disaster of the two Bush administrations about which we all are well aware and lament every day.

I cannot imagine that the majority can again be fooled into voting Republican again for ANY office. THAT is what the campaign must be about and if it is not sidetracked, we will be free again to do what is in the interests of the American people. PLEASE do keep the real issues of this campaign in mind and not be divided once again by the SMEARS FROM THE RIGHT.

Unlike you I know how to face reality and that is that this will be the way McCain ends up as Prez. because Obama can not win the GE. You don't seem to understand that the Party will NOT nominate a candidate that can't beat McCain. Luckily delegates can do whatever they want including change their minds. Thank heavens for Superdelegates, they did not drink the koolaid. If you decide to not vote because of it, oh well. Better a President who can put this back together than one that is a proven LIAR who picks shady nasty people for friends who will end up in positions of power if he gets in. No way will Joe sixpack vote for him now. She will take the nomination and rightfully so, she has spent her entire LIFE devoted to Americans, civil rights and healthcare. Just because YOU havev no respect for experience, doesn't mean a thing.

Wishful thinking. Obama will thrash McCain or any other Republican. I can't believe all the Hillary supporters still trying to push that pathetic lie "Obama can't win the GE". lol lol Well Clinton can't even win the primary and those are the two choices. So what you are saying that a candidate who can't even win the primary in her own party can win the General Election. Explain this to me like I am a 2 year old!

"she has spent her entire LIFE devoted to Americans, civil rights and healthcare"

For your homework, I want you to list Hillary Clinton's entire life career, the jobs she's worked, the functions she's held. I want full-time employment listing with dates if possible, who she worked for and what she did for them. I don't want hearsay or campaign rhetoric, I want verifiable fact. I've yet to see this and since you're claiming this, I suppose you have the information to back it up. Then we can have a reasonable discussion on what all she did for civil rights and healthcare.

Wait, you can not just count these statistics. You need to count the donations to the general election funds those are what matter the most. The general election statistics are what demonstrate the ability to win in the fall. You can not count the primary statistics at all. Also, you need to count the big donor donations overall. I mean if you can't get big donor donations from lobbyists and such how can you expect to win the general election....

Logic sound flawed? that is the logic of the Clintons.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:32 PM on 03/23/2008

Regardless of what you think about either candidate, this is a pretty impressive figure.

It really underscores the way each campaign has been run. Clinton has been a big money top down approach and she has big bank for the general. However, she is low on funds now. Her online is increasing but is still nowhere near Obama's.

Obama's bottom up strategy has been very effective for the primary season. He can constantly refresh his war chest by reaching out to all of those small donors because few of them are maxed out. It's the Dean 2004 approach on steroids. Will it work through the general or will small donors get fatigued/disinterested? We'll see.

I read those comments too but I don't know how much you can believe anonymous bloggers, although it's a good reason for them not to want to defend HRC anymore. After awhile, it just gets too tired to have to defend over and over again when someone is stretching the truth, embellishing the truth, and finally no hint of truth. It's exhausting and a reminder of the Clinton years. Bill did a lot of good and some things not so good, but all the years of taking up for him, them can wear a person out.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:03 PM on 03/23/2008

Don't believe it. She has never been for integrity, I heard her claim to take government away from special interests - what? THEY FUND HER. That a Clinton is caught in another lie doesn't trouble those who love the Clintons - they're used to defending them. I don't think it cost her any supporters.

It should, but then, fear and smear shouldn't work, either.
