WASHINGTON — Hillary Rodham Clinton adviser James Carville is refusing to apologize for comparing New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson to Judas.

Carville made the comparison to The New York Times after Richardson, once a member of President Clinton's Cabinet, endorsed Hillary Clinton rival Barack Obama last week for the Democratic presidential nomination. Carville called it an "act of betrayal," and pointed out that it came during Holy Week.

"Mr. Richardson's endorsement came right around the anniversary of the day when Judas sold out (Jesus) for 30 pieces of silver, so I think the timing is appropriate, if ironic," he said.

Richardson told "Fox News Sunday" that he wouldn't respond by getting "in the gutter like that."

"That's typical of many of the people around Senator Clinton," Richardson said. "They think they have a sense of entitlement to the presidency."

Carville told CNN on Monday that Richardson had committed an "egregious act" and he intended to make a sharp response to it.

"I wanted to use a very strong metaphor to make my point," Carville said. "I doubt if Governor Richardson and I will be particularly close in the future."

Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson told reporters Monday that he didn't agree with Carville's comment.

"If I had said it, I would apologize," Wolfson said. "I did not say it, and if I had I would, but that's up to him."

Richardson served as ambassador to the United Nations and energy secretary during the Clinton administration.

Bravo! Considering all of the references to Obama supporters supposedly being like cult members according to the HRC camp, I find Carville's statement to be chock full of delicious irony.

I think this is the way it went down....
Richardson had to choose between his loyalty to the Clintons and his loyalty to our country.
So he considered very carefully the decisions George W. Bush has made each time he had to choose between loyalty to who'd scratched his back the most versus loyalty to what was best for our country.

It made it easy for him to see that his greatest loyalty must be to the country, because if nothing else, GW taught us how bad things can be when any political figure places their loyalty to anyone for anything above what is best for the United States of America. Speaking of Jesus Christ, "Jesus Christ, GWB damn near turned us into the United States of Halliburton, that's how loyal he was!"

Loyalty to what's best for all of us FIRST Bill Richardson is not the Judas, James, you big idiot, YOU are the JUDAS and you don't even realize it yet.

Carville is the toughest sob on the face of the earth. I just love hearing all these obama people whine about him and everything else they don't like. they are the biggest bunch of whining children I have ever seen.

Playing the victim eh? Like Hillary's "crying" incident before the N.H. primary? Or how about her crying foul over the demands that she release her tax returns, despite the fact that she used the same strategy on her opponent in her senate run? Or how about her whining during the debates that she always gets the first question? Or how about her whining about all the guys ganging up on her? In short, those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Given you clearly seem to be supporting a candidate who is perfectly happy to exploit the gender card for her own political benefit, you really don't have much of a foundation on which to build this line of criticism.

Actually he was using it as an attempt to bully other super dels into not betraying the queen. That is what I want from our govt...I only want the queen and her minions....wait.....I didn't vote for Bush. Hey James how about letting the people choose whats best and not what you think is best. I have heard you talk on many issues and quite frankly I do not believe you have my best interests in mind or the best interests of my family or neighbors for that matter. If you remember, James, Jesus was crucified because he was a challenge to the ruling class which was getting tired of revolts in its provinces. Historically crucifiction is equal to lynching and in fact lynching is a form of crucifiction. If Bill Richardson was alive during the time of Jesus he would have been an advocate for his cause. I guess that is the problem with history though it only matters when it supports what you want it to...come to think of it that sounds like the entire Clinton doctorine.

Spoken like a Hillary supporter, sadly. This is one of the reasons she needs to face reality and get out of the race. She's made it clear, however, that she won't. The Clintons appear to be much more important to the Clintons than this country is. Having voted for Bill twice with no regrets then or now, I am deeply saddened by this year's Clinton campaign.

Seems to me that Gov. Richardson is showing the kind of leadership that Howard Dean should be. If Mrs. Clinton wants to slug it out until the last day of the convention, that's fine, but do it in civil manner. Otherwise, the Democrats are sure to lose in the fall, and the nation will suffer another 4 years of a Republican president.

Just a though, but both Dodd and Richardson were left with campaign debt after they dropped out. Maybe they received "30 pieces of silver" for their endorsements and help eliminate some or all of their campaign debt?

Well, that is what a Republican candidate would do but Bill Richardson has already said he recieved no payment for his endorsement.

Richardson's endorsement was rude, antagonistic, and deserved a comment.

He's a bug on the windshield of politics.

I find it deliciously ironic, that in this video James Carville (who is a rather accomplished master at the art of delivering Judas-like treasonous blows to his "friends", as in the Kerry Ohio ballot incident) seems to be morphing into Gollum, right before our eyes.

Carville like many democrats need to step back and let a new generation of leaders take over. We have had enough of their divisive politics. America needs a new direction.
Bill, Hillary, Carville, Gov. Rendell they are all so yesterday

NEW GENERATION OF LEADERS? You mean the Millenial generation who can't even support themselves without bleeding their parents who have to subsidize them dry? You mean the generation the majority of whom don't have health insurance? Yeah, that'll work.
They can't even run their own lives I'll be damned if they will run the WH. They are worse than GWBush and his crooks.
Get real and grow up, YOU are the reason for the problems because you can't honor experience and dedication. Give it 20 years and you will see the error of your ways.
The Superdelegates and delegates will nominate the best person for the PARTY.

The Clinton campaign keeps reminding me why I didn't become a Democrat until 2003. If she manages to win, my stay in the party will end before November 2008.

The only difference between McCain and Clinton is that you can nominate a Democrat to defeat McCain in 2012. Clinton may result in another Ronald Reagan emerging in 2012, as Democrats are forced defend her incompetence and dissociation from the truth all over again.

I'm a hardcore loyal Democrat but if Clinton wins and screws up job trust me I will not be defending her by any means, or Barack either for that matter. We are electing them to the highest office in the land because we think they'll do a good job. I don't play this sport's teams mentality bullshit. If they are doing a crappy job we need to call them on their craptastic job. I put my country before the politics unlike the rethugs.
