WASHINGTON — Hillary Rodham Clinton adviser James Carville is refusing to apologize for comparing New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson to Judas.

Carville made the comparison to The New York Times after Richardson, once a member of President Clinton's Cabinet, endorsed Hillary Clinton rival Barack Obama last week for the Democratic presidential nomination. Carville called it an "act of betrayal," and pointed out that it came during Holy Week.

"Mr. Richardson's endorsement came right around the anniversary of the day when Judas sold out (Jesus) for 30 pieces of silver, so I think the timing is appropriate, if ironic," he said.

Richardson told "Fox News Sunday" that he wouldn't respond by getting "in the gutter like that."

"That's typical of many of the people around Senator Clinton," Richardson said. "They think they have a sense of entitlement to the presidency."

Carville told CNN on Monday that Richardson had committed an "egregious act" and he intended to make a sharp response to it.

"I wanted to use a very strong metaphor to make my point," Carville said. "I doubt if Governor Richardson and I will be particularly close in the future."

Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson told reporters Monday that he didn't agree with Carville's comment.

"If I had said it, I would apologize," Wolfson said. "I did not say it, and if I had I would, but that's up to him."

Richardson served as ambassador to the United Nations and energy secretary during the Clinton administration.

I don't get it. He's a Judas for supporting Obama, but not for running against her? Wasn't he a candidate for the nomination?

Excellent point! Should be picked up by the MSM . . . Oh, I forgot, they keep repeating Clinton's talking points.

Carville is an embarrassment .... Both he and his wife are among those who helped get this nation into the precarious position of polarization in which we find ourselves ... I wish he would concentrate on his acting career (he did well in Jesse James). Sure, he loves politics, he loves the dirty fight ... but he does not care about anything but the sound of his own voice screaming hyperbolic statements ... He can go f himself

Big sin of omission here …To show how the Clinton’s define loyalty, this article should have noted that as U.N. ambassador, Richardson came under heavy fire when the media learned he’d offered Monica Lewinsky a job in the U.N. public affairs office. Lewinsky upended this Clinton scheme to get her out of Washington by turning down the offer. Richardson wrote regrettably about this episode in his book, “Between Worlds: The Making of an American Life” (pp 237, 240).

This is absolutely amazing to me... Could we be any more childish. Did he really have to say all of that?

Today as I watched James Carville stand by his insulting comments about Richardson I sent another donation to Sen. Obama AND I sent a donation and a thank you note to Gov. Richardson to help pay off his campaign debt. I hope more Obama supporters will do the same, let the super delegates know where their bread and butter will come from.

The people of New Mexico voted for Senator Clinton.

Just like Seattlelite(Reply Posted 12:59 AM on 03/25/2008) on this page, "I got cut off here's the rest of my comment."

What I originally wrote was:

Carville Stands By "Judas" Remark, wow!, that shows
Carville has the backbone.

And, Carville had the amazing smarts to see the amazing timing of the acts of betrayal.
"Mr. Richardson's endorsement came right around the anniversary of the day when Judas sold out (Jesus) for 30 pieces of silver, so I think the timing is appropriate, if ironic," he said.

Even if you are an adversary of Carville, if you are even a moderate intellectual,
you have to give the man the credit where it's due
for his resilient backbone and political smarts.

What’s been so great for me as an Obama supporter is the idea that it’s ordinary peoples money (my money) that put him where he is. He’s not beholding to any corporations or lobbyist and is free to work for us.

Maybe that's why the establishment hates him. The media hit job last week was ridiculous.

His donor list would seem to suggest otherwise! Seriously, if you support his positions, that's great, but this walking on water status is really ridiculous.

It was the Clintons that gave him that status, and it backfired. Please give credit where credit is due! Bang Bang Sniper fire, you say?

maybe carville's right: the clinton's ought to know about betrayal cause that's what they've been doing to the democratic party with their pro mccain comments.

Apparently when you work for a "Clinton" your in for LIFE. I suspect all her homies will be expected to support and work for Chelesa when she runs for a political office. OH yeah she'll be ditching those training wheels soon.

They have been grooming Chelsea, and today when asked about the sniper fire, she smiled and said if her mother said it, it was so! Just like her parents. Trash!

I would like to see Mr. Carville say that to his face. Of course that's not the Clinton style, their style is to make nice with you and wait untill you leave the room to talk trash.

I am still trying to figure out how to get more than one line of an original post in, not a cut and paste from something else. Let's try and see if this works. Quite possibly, this will me my last try. If this doesn't work, I will give up. Or not. Depending upon all sorts of things that might or might not happen. Of course, I'm just writing gibberish.

From Kos: Bill Richardson: Hey, Hill? After much thought and deliberation, I've decided to endorse you.-----Hillary Clinton: Too late.----BR: Huh?----HC: Yeah, the time when your endorsement could have been effective has long since passed.----BR: But, I'm a super delegate, and ultimately, we'll be forced to decide this thing!----HC: Not important. Frankly, Bill, I just don't think yours would be a significant endorsement in this environment.----BR: So you're telling me that my endorsement means nothing?----HC: That's exactly what I'm telling you. It doesn't matter. A few weeks ago? Maybe, but today? I don't want it. It's useless.----BR: Frankly, Hillary, I'm finding this a bit disconcerting.----HC: So? What are you going to do about it?----BR: Endorse Obama.----HC: Judas.

Exactly. What playbook did the Clintons get stuck with, that told them insulting people and treating them like dirt was the road to the Presidency? Carville has no more place in civilized discourse than a roach on a butter dish.

Carville compared Richardson with Judas when he discovered Hillary Clinton's palms bleeding on Good Friday. Funny, she doesn't LOOK Jewish!
