ABC News :

Wrapping up a nine-day overseas trip to Iraq, Vice President Dick Cheney was asked, in an exclusive interview with ABC News, about the effect on the nation of today's grim milestone of at least 4,000 U.S. deaths over the five-year Iraq war.

Noting the burden placed on military families, the Vice President said the biggest burden is carried by President Bush, and reminded ABC news that the U.S. military in Iraq and Afghanistan volunteered for duty.

There really are no words to describe the horror that is Dick Cheney. How many of those soldiers were stop-lossed, Dicky? How many should have stayed at home before you forced them to go back?

The moral emptiness of this man is boundless...a truer symbol of evil, we do not have...when he is out of office, the world will be a safer place.

I hope we can join with "the volunteers" to bring criminal charges against Cheney. Milosovich has nothing on him.

They volunteered to serve this country. They didn't volunteer to have traitors for commander in chief and vice president, who sacrficed theirs and what maybe millions of lives, for the greed of pigs.

They volunteered to protect our country, not to protect Exxon oil and the rest of the corporatocracy.

I guarentee.... If all these warmongers had to send their children to fight the war,we would not be in Iraq. The majority of those losing their lives in Iraq don't come from priveledged backgrounds. The poor are always the ones to lay down their lives for the likes of Bush and Cheney. Bush's daughter is getting married soon,I wonder how many families have lost their daughters to this stupid war,an will never see their daughters walk down the aisle........ Shame on you Bush and Cheney!

what do you do now? Pull out of Iraq like a Democrat Party cheep hooker? Or be like "oh well" because Iraq is not trendy and have to return to place more American lives in danger?

God, I get so disgusted with fools who haven't a clue. Iraq was not a threat to us. It was just a way for Bush and Cheney and their allies to improve their position in the world. They have done that. Show some guts and demand that they be held accountable.

You need to remember, when you read comments such as the above, that there are people in this world so impotent in their everyday lives that all wars seem great to them. It gives them a chance to release anger plus an excellent opportunity to feel like a winner.....that is, if they are on the winning side. Unfortunately, this isn't some abstract concept, but real people dying in vast numbers on both sides.

No a video game.

Have you served? If not, would you serve? The "human" toll for a "failed policy" is what's at stake. "pulling out like a cheep hooker" is a great analogy . . . . the "cheap hooker" that is Iraq is not worth it!

Sorry-- my last paragraph was cut. In conclusion: They chose to serve their country. They did not choose this horrible and misguided war. To apportion them any of the burden, or any of the blame for their deaths, does them a vast disservice. May they rest in peace. And, for the horrors they have brought upon our troops and the Iraqi people, may George and Dick never sleep again.

As much as I despise the man, I have to admit that on this one he is right. If you listen to the friends and family members of those who have gone to Iraq and died in speaking about the dead and wounded they come up with some simplistic jingoism that, " They wanted to liberate the Iraqi people." or "They just wanted to spread freedom." Truly you can say that they were naive souls who were duped and died for nothing, but still it was their choice to go. The one reason that the draft has not been reenacted by this administration is their fear that there would be massive protests to the point of bringing down a government.
