Clinton Acknowledges A "Misstatement" On Bosnia Sniper Fire

Earlier this afternoon, Sen. Hillary Clinton came to the Daily News and Inquirer building here in Philadelphia -- where she's seeklng the Daily News editorial board endorsement -- and I had a chance to ask her about a controversy that's increasingly dogged her campaign the last few days: Whether she misrepresented the danger of her March 1996 trip to a U.S. military base in Bosnia in an effort to boost her foreign policy credentials.

Clinton acknowleged today for the first time that it was a "misstatement" when she said in a major prepared foreign policy speech last week that "I remember landing under sniper fire" but also tried to brush off the entire issue as "a minor blip." She also gave a revised account of her airplane landing and her tarmac greeting at the Tuzla Air Force base 12 years ago -- seeking to explain a picture re-published this weekend in the Washington Post showing her and daughter Chelsea calmly greeting an 8-year-old girl.

Now Bill Clinton is saying very loudly "WE MUST WIN" - which makes me think there is more going on behind the scenes than the Clintons would like to admit. I think for the first time there is an urgency to see just who all has donated to the Clinton library, how much they've donated and what the Clintons OWE those donors in return. We know the Clinton campaign has lied, thrown the kitchen sink, allowed the republican party to trash Barack Obama while keeping silent, and since the math doesn't work out and long time loyalists to the Clintons are leaving the fold, that nagging thought of what is behind it all becomes increasingly important. Why would James Carville use such an extreme word as Judas to describe Bill Richardson, a very good governor, who had the initiative to follow his heart? Red flags, red flags, red flags are popping up by the hour... I'm sure the Clintons are counting on loyalists to reverse the will of the voters - but when the smoke clears, how many of these super-delegates going to go against the will of the people at a time when so many are up for re-election? Is political suicide worth a Hillary vote?

Well, the good news is that maybe shge would not voluntarily exposed her child to sniper fire. The bad news is that the prospective Thief in Chief, (of the nom, she'd get crushed for as much in Dec.) is a bald faced liar.

And now she's holding Obama accountable for his pastor's emotional speeches that many, including McCain and Huckabee, have said not to touch? Who knew that McCain could rely on Hillary as his surrogate. Again.

This, by her logic, commands us to hold us accountable for her own words. If Obama must be renounced for not tossing his local pastor off the bus hard enough, then Hlllary must be renounced and rejected for lying about her experience so ridiculously so.

Hillary supporters have got to be asking themselves if this was the kind of campaign they signed up for.

A "misstatement'? Mrs. Bill Clinton in explaining her unique qualifications to be Commander in Chiel described going into a war zone that was too dangerous for the President, encountering sniper fire that forced the cancellation of welcoming ceremonies, and ducking the sniper shots to run to awaiting vehicles.

I think that laugh came from her thinking she was ACTUALLY hoodwinking the public and they had no idea what was going on. When one says they've been vetted, it's like a signal to journalists that there's no reason to do any research on her words, that they've all been checked out before. Unfortunately in the new age of technology people have more fun doing the research than listening to the words. Once again, Hillary is letting old politics drive a wedge between her and the voting public.
