WASHINGTON — Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, once so eager to debate she ran two ads questioning why her rival wouldn't, has yet to say whether she'll debate Sen. Barack Obama in North Carolina next month.

Both presidential candidates plan to participate in an ABC News debate on April 16 in Philadelphia. Pennsylvania holds it primary days later, on April 22. Obama also has agreed to a debate April 19 hosted by CBS in North Carolina. North Carolina holds its primary May 6.

Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson said Monday that the campaign has not made a decision about the CBS debate and is still working through the details.

"I am quite confident that there will be additional debates and that we will work with networks and the Obama campaign to figure out the appropriate location and venue and media outlet," Wolfson told reporters on a conference call.

Clinton ran a statewide television ad in Wisconsin prior to its Feb. 19 primary challenging Obama to debate there as she struggled to regain momentum after his string of victories in February.

The Clinton ad said, "Barack Obama still won't agree to debate in Wisconsin. ... Why won't Barack Obama debate these differences? Wisconsin deserves better."

The contenders have debated 20 times during the presidential campaign. Their last meetings were in Texas on Feb. 21 and Ohio on Feb. 26 ahead of those states' primaries on March 4. Clinton won both contests.

Unfortunately, the people who most need to be reading the Huffington Post are not. When many of you are shocked, dismayed and angered by Hillary Clinton Campaign's tactics, recognize that they are not designed to appeal to intelligent people who read and are capable of verifying factual evidence in order to discern the truth. Her lies, manipulation and deception will never be checked out by the intellectually disadvantaged or those who work two shifts and do not have time to read. The Clinton's have mastered "soundbyte politics"------they say shit that they know to be false, misleading, deceptive but if a enough people believe it gives them small victories on the margins. America is filled with people who are uinformed about the nature of our democracy. Hillary is the candidate of the Left Side of the Bell Curve.

I wish I knew. I can't help but feel it has something to do with the censoring/approval process here. Some posts show up right away, others careen around for a day or two before being seen and some never seem to make it online.

This is too funny! She is now having 2nd thoughts about the April debate. I would too, if I were her! Cause you know that there are sooooo many things that have come to light since the last debate that I am sure the panelists will bring up - the Bosnia lie, the Tax Returns she has not brought forth, the Rev. Wright debacle which she personally has stayed out of the fray (but her mouthpieces have landed on with a thud), the constant spin on her ability to win. Yessiree, I would be VERY AFRAID to debate again!!!

Has anybody wondered why, exactly, we need two debates, three days apart?

I'm beginning to think we really do have two Republican's running against a democrat. She will want no bebate after those IRS returns I'm betting. Again she's proven with her no holds barred attacks on Obama this isn't what's right for the country or the democratic party... it's what's right for her. Wake up people.

And how tired I am from 16 years of sticking up for the Clintons? It is long past time for them to step aside and let Obama lead the party to victory, across the board.

Did you bash members of the Clinton Clan when they bashed Obama for not immediately agreeing to the April 16 debate, ro for not debating her in Wisconsin? If not, you're a hypocrite.

I think the real story to report is Obama's hypocrisy...saying you want to represent the people, then dragging your feet so a re-vote can't happen.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:47 PM on 03/24/2008

It could be worse, people could just bring up Rev. Wright! for every single argument, every single time. Now talk about stupid and pathetic? That takes the cake. Not saying that you have done it, just that there seems to be a lot of people who bash Obama using nothing, but that.

Although I actually think that the 20 debates already held were more than enough, it is interesting indeed to see how Senator Obama was held to one standard by the Clinton machine when he was anything less than immediately enthusiastic about debating and debating and debating. Now, however, that the timing isn't 'right' for her and the debates aren't her idea they are suddenly much less of a national imperative.

That's because she doesn't want PA voters to get to know him. When he debates, his poll numbers rise. And she doesn't want to be asked all those embarrassing questions about her problems with the truth.

Well, I don't think the candidates are pathetic in and of themselves. But, I am beginning to think it is pathetic that so many of us (and yes, I do include myself in there) are becoming so sensitive, polarized and losing perspective as we spin round and round worrying about issues that are secondary at best, moronic at worst. There seems to be a lot of 'nit picking' and much less understanding of the broader, more complicated, and ultimately more important issues. There has been a lot of space on this very site dedicated to arguing over whether there is more prejudice against a woman or an African American! I'm a woman and I know the glass ceiling isn't a myth BUT I also realize racism is a deeply ingrained part of all our lives. I LOVE a good political conversation/argument about the issues with a knowledgeable opponent but I am getting trapped in the habit of reacting to things that seem to slight my candidate. And I seriously think I have a lot of company here, folks. Lets all try to get back to the 'meat and potatoes' and stop trying to trip the other sides' candidate up over something that doesn't matter at all in the long run.
