Chelsea Clinton Has Quick Response For Lewinsky Question

AP   |   March 25, 2008 at 04:27 PM

INDIANAPOLIS — Chelsea Clinton had a quick retort Tuesday when asked whether her mother's credibility had been hurt during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

"Wow, you're the first person actually that's ever asked me that question in the, I don't know maybe, 70 college campuses I've now been to, and I do not think that is any of your business," Clinton said during a campaign visit for her mother, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

On Tuesday, the student journalist defended his decision to ask the question during in appearance on Dan Abrams' Verdict on MSNBC. He told Abrams that the question wasn't meant "to pry into their private life" but was more about demonstrating how Clinton had overcome a difficult experience. Abrams and the panel, which included HuffPost's own Rachel Sklar, talked about the difficulties reporters encounter in trying to question Chelsea Clinton.

chelsea if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. you chose to campaign for your lying mother. and you re-enforced her lies by agreeing about the whole bosnia lie. seems your parents have taught you well.

It is so surprising that this story continues to be a great Mark Penn tool. Did anyone here read up on the questioner and why he asked this question?

He was a plant.

Perfect answer Chelsea. I wish your father gave the same response when asked about it under oath. It's no one else's business. Like Bush and his cronies , Clinton should have just refused to testify about the matter. Now on to Barack--on his website, he states he was against the Kyle /Lieberman amendment. That's a blatant lie. He, along with McCain, didn't even vote on it. I guess he could say "I was against it before I didn't vote on it" . The ethics bill which he touts never passed !!! I feel sorry for the people who feel Barack is a Messiah.

Funny that know one realizes that the question was planted by a Hillary supporter.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:37 PM on 03/29/2008

This is a classic case of "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen". If she's willing to stand up for her parents, she should be willing to withstand the same questions and criticisms as them. She's not a child. She's a VERY highly paid employee at a hedge fund who gets the convenience of a leave of absence to stump for her mother. She lives in a multi-million dollar apartment with her boyfriend. I think that, if she's grown up enough to enjoy such luxuries, she's grown up enough to speak on the character of the candidate she stumps for...mother or not.

It's common knowledge that life in the WH is under a microscope. Her father was revealed to have low morals in his marriage, low respect for the committee that questioned him, and a wife that was revealed to have helped him cover up some of his illegal activities. ML is just one piece of the puzzle. Chelsea needs to be able to speak on those or get off the stump and go back to her silver platter of a life.

Chelsea for President -- whenever.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:49 PM on 03/29/2008

How would of the Bush twins responded to this question? Has it damaged your daddy's reputation and legacy because he has the IQ of a cup of pond water?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:36 PM on 03/29/2008

Her father had sex in the WH with an Intern, lied about it, was Impeached and disbarred. Her mother has been exposed as a habitual liar. It's too late to shut the barn door.......the reporter had every ethical and moral right to ask that question.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:54 PM on 03/29/2008

Grow up Chelsea. If you want to campaign you have to take the tough questions. The affair definitely had an impact on the America people, face it. No one sheltered us from the gory details. Stop acting like you are so much better.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:03 AM on 03/29/2008

I find it most interesting that some Clinton supporters have been using this incident to attack Obama, ignoring the INCONVENIENT TRUTH that the questioner was a Clinton supporter. It is bad enough that Barack is condemned for misstated things said by his supporters; now he is held accountable for the utterances of hers as well.
Has everyone here gone loco?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:11 AM on 03/29/2008

This was an absolutely missed moment for the clinton campaign, not to mention disrespectful. The first question Chelsea should have been prepped to answer should have been the affair question. She could have totally flipped the script. This was the time to show her parents in a different light. She could have defended the sanctity of marriage, forgiveness and family. On the surface the clintons appear as a family divided, driven only by ambition rather that love and compassion for each other. Perception of Chelsea is of a child caught up in a broken marriage who has taken a side of one parent.

It was a question supporters should have the right to ask, especially since Hillary is losing. Is this campaign worth the investment. Bill Clinton brought infidelity to the white house. (not that other presidents didn't). He had an affair on our dime and our time. And frankly his campaigning for hillary hasn't come across and sincerely genuine yet.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:47 PM on 03/28/2008

WTG Chelsea!....
I suppose it would have been a question to ask in a different forum, but not in a presidential Q&A. As years go by the less I am crazy about her parents.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:28 PM on 03/28/2008

She was born to a natural born liar Bill Clinton...that has rubbed off to Hillary Clinton. I have no respect to someone who on behave of their mother campaign says things like it is none of your business to a reporter whose intentions were simply to learn about her mother. Yes, it is my business to know everything there is to know about the Clinton's not including their sexual behaviors.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 07:08 PM on 03/28/2008

Good for you Chelsea!!
I feel embarrassed for all these people who obvioulsy have no life of their own, and have nothing better to do then to rehash this. Get a live people!!!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:02 PM on 03/28/2008

Dude, the guy whom asked the question was interviewed on Fox news. He is a Hillary supporter and wanted to give Chelsea a good question to show what she was worth. It was a planted question!

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:39 PM on 03/29/2008

Are you kidding guys? Chelsey is a 28 year old adult. She chose to participate in a primary presidential campaign. She can chose to say that her mother's credibility is "none of our business". And we are entitle to say that if she can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Besides, Chelsey is very well protected. No journalist can interview her on the record. Is that information or or just cheap propaganda?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:02 PM on 03/28/2008

So once again the old, "two wrongs make a right," arguement. Do you realize how childish that is?? The guy was out of bounds. If he wanted to know, let him ask Hillary. Chelsea had nothing to do with it, and for that matter, neither did Hillary. This is just plain, old-fashioned smear mongering. Gutter news. Fit for bottom-feeders only. A distraction from some of the most important issues the world has ever faced.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:04 PM on 03/28/2008

She needs to stop hooking for Hillary

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:53 PM on 03/28/2008

I would have asked the question: 'Is it creepy that your dad received oral sex in the oval office from a girl roughly your age, and do you think he'll do it again?'
Now, is that my business?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 02:43 PM on 03/28/2008

What I would have said after Chelsea's answer: Sorry, Chelsea, you are being used by your Mother as a political spokesperson. AND your father made his BJ public business by doing it in the oval office, on public time / money. So, sorry, It's not off limits, Chelsea, dear. This is the price you pay for being a politician and public figure. Get use to it or get out of the public eye.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 06:38 PM on 03/28/2008

It is definately NOT your business. Or Mine. We really need to stop wallowing in the gutter.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 06:31 PM on 03/28/2008

No, it most certainly is not.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:22 PM on 03/28/2008

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2Z9o37FQI4

After watching this video, I have lost respect for Chelsea. Chelsea knew her mother was lying about Bosnia and chose to support the lie.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 12:15 PM on 03/28/2008

Come on Billrott. Its her mother.
I am all about Obama, but even I can admit your comment is a little harsh.

I would defend my mother no matter what.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:25 PM on 03/28/2008

Her response to an inappropriate question was totally out of left field. Just answer the question politely with a response indicating that it was a personal matter and move on. Why the little hissyfit, and lecture?
Just my impression.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:35 PM on 03/28/2008

Bravo for Chelsea! Wish all candidates and their
families would answer this way. Then maybe the press
would learn to stick to issues that actually effect
the country instead off sensational bullshit. And
maybe the public would actually know more about real
issues instead of constantly being distracted with
this junk.

This boy says people his age want to know this. If
true, a very sad statement. At the time the 'scandal'
was going on everyone I know, if they said anything at
all, just wanted the press and the republican hit
squad to stop wasting legislative time and money.

God forbid we should improve schools, protect
consumers or the environment if we have the
opportunity to talk about presidential blow jobs 24/7.
Or better yet (press & republican standards) for
years on end. All of congress should have been
impeached for that.

And just for the record, your continual imitation of
Chelsea's defensiveness was way off base. I thought
she was WAY more polite and professional then the
questioner deserved. You just sounded so desperate to
get everyone to go along with your wrongheaded point
of view. Ratings not what they should be?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 11:14 AM on 03/28/2008

I, for one, liked her answer; I wish I'd have thought of it. WHY? Because it IS none of the little #^@&er's business. In fact: it is none of Chelsea's business either, unless her mother chooses to MAKE it her business. Or ours. Or even Billy-boy's. It is Hilary's business alone how she "handles" the affair, or if she lets any of it be public.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:18 AM on 03/28/2008

but the question was did she think her mother is less credible.
what exactly is your point.

if my father cheated on my mother, its my business. its also my mothers. and anyone else who is directly affected.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 04:27 PM on 03/28/2008

I am a new citizen and therefore a first time voter. I have twice heard Senator Clinton - once on 'Meet the Press' and later in a debate in Texas, I think, refer to, without describing 'something ' that happened it he 90's that gives her a claim to having come through difficut times and and dealt with them in a manner which displayed judgement, courage and wisdom. In the debate setting the audience laughed at her response in a conspiratorial manner as if they were in on the joke.I wasn't here in the 90's so that puts me in the same 'ignorant' position as a lot of young people, I suppose. If I am expected to give Senator Clinton credit for this incident then surely I am entitled to hear from her and her surrogates, including her daughter, about the circumstances. Otherwise it amounts to saying 'I've been through some tough times but I dealt with them - trust me! Can you imagine Senator Obama getting away with this?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 10:29 PM on 03/27/2008

Somebody ask Chelsea how she dodged those sniper bullets in Bosnia with her mother?

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:55 PM on 03/27/2008

Good for you Chelsea! Bravo. Don't give these slime merchants any crediblitiy at all by giving them an answer to what is clearly none of their business.
The questioner can't decide for himself if Hillary's credibility is valid or not??? It was a cheap question and typical of the gutter politics in this country. We are acting like a nation of blue-haired old ladies. Gossip mongers. Bottom feeders.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:30 PM on 03/27/2008

My apologies to blue haired old ladies everywhere.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:23 PM on 03/28/2008

Considering Hillary implicitly used the Lewinsky scandal in the Texas debate as a vehicle to tout her crisis-management abilities, I'm a little confused at how Chelsea would freak out over the question. One would think that having undergone Clinton surrogate training, Chelsea would have been more adept at handling the question. It's just an ongoing stream of victimhood from the Clintons. I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 05:23 PM on 03/27/2008

Then the reporter should ask Hillary, and not Chelsea. Chelsea had no part in that whole affair. None. If you can't see the slimey aspect of such a question, you have no class.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 03:25 PM on 03/28/2008

Please....she made a general reference to her having been tested, which also included the health care debacle. She hardly touted her crisis management abilities with the very general reference she made during that "debate".
Your "Clinton surrogate training" phrase indicates your bias against Senator Clinton, so please shut up as you have nothing to contribute to the discussion.

favoriteFavorite Flag as abusive Posted 01:15 PM on 03/28/2008

The question was innapropriate; however she had a choice to answer it or not answer it. She elected not to answer it. Chelsea is out there campaigning for her mother; therefore she is open game.
