INDIANAPOLIS — Chelsea Clinton had a quick retort Tuesday when asked whether her mother's credibility had been hurt during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

"Wow, you're the first person actually that's ever asked me that question in the, I don't know maybe, 70 college campuses I've now been to, and I do not think that is any of your business," Clinton said during a campaign visit for her mother, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

On Tuesday, the student journalist defended his decision to ask the question during in appearance on Dan Abrams' Verdict on MSNBC. He told Abrams that the question wasn't meant "to pry into their private life" but was more about demonstrating how Clinton had overcome a difficult experience. Abrams and the panel, which included HuffPost's own Rachel Sklar, talked about the difficulties reporters encounter in trying to question Chelsea Clinton.

If you come to me for a job interview, and you tell me that you have been "under fire", and then you don't want to talk about your history of litigation, including professional discipline and impeachment while in the highest office in the land, then don't send your daughter in there to take the incoming fire.

The Clinton machine wants the good part of the 35 years of "experience" without the 35 years of "baggage." Then they send their daughter out there to be asked relevant question that are probative on the issue of credibility? Everyone said that the baggage was too much. I personally knew that Hillary would not take the good with the bad. What if Bill was being blackmailed about his affairs while his wife was running? He should have resigned, as should have Bush, Sr. (who wasn't re-elected) and Bush, Jr. (who should be impeached).

Anyone who has seen the attacks that are being prepared by the right wing on the morals of the Clintons and now Hillary's credibility should prepare for a McCain presidency. The Clinton's ambitions are unimportant to me. I thought that Kucinich had the answers, or maybe John Edwards. Ralph Nader has lots of truth to his position. But on a job interview, you need to be honest and open. That's the incoming fire you must expect. Bush, Jr. should have answered questions about coke and booze, not God.

boy, as more and more Obama people get on this blog the more it descend into the sexist gutter.

The Obama people are starting to look more and more like Scientologists - even hurling fecal matter at Hilary’s daughter. When is it going to be enough for you leftofascists. I really don’t know how I’m going to be able to vote for this guy if they don’t stop this stuff and just start talking the issues. Obama’s new pastor used the word ‘lynching’ in the speech when he said that the media was crucifying poor Rev. Wright. Yeah, that about describes what they are trying to do to Hilary.

Hey verlaine, you should be real proud of yourself.

In my opinion, a candidate's personal life should not be discussed. However, Mr. Clinton lied to a grand jury which resulted in an impeachment trial. He and Congress were so busy prosecuting and defending themselves, they took their eyes off the ball. In another words, his personal life became a distraction of which the enemies of the United States took advantage. In that case his affair and its effect on our nation are grounds for questioning. I don't know that Hillary or Chelsey are the best ones to answer those questions but Bill Clinton is. How distracted is Hillary as President of the United States going to be if he does it again.

I agree with you that one's personal sex life is private. I also agree that while you are occupying the White House and trying to draw a bead on Osama bin Laden with a cruise missile which causes millions of dollars each, it is not a good idea to be fooling around with your intern who is blabbing her mouth off to her girlfriend (Linda Tripp) at the CIA.

If this were the only paramour of Bill's then it wouldn't be so bad, but she wasn't and Paula Jones brought a civil suit. When Bill Clinton was caught in a lie, it is all in the public domain, and therefore, not private. I do not believe that taste would make Chelsea open game for such questions but since she was around the Clinton's and she is boosting her mother, whose character for truth and veracity has "come under fire" recently as she denies her NAFTA position and being under fire claims is justified.

As Bill said, "How dare you?" Well, the voters are saying how dare you lie repeatedly! I wouldn't expect it to be otherwise, nor should it be. You have to take incoming fire. You can duck but it should be open season on lies.

You are absolutely correct. When a presidential candidate has a potential distractor that might take his/her attention away from presidential obligations, then it IS our business! It doesn't really matter if Bill does "it" again either, what is distracting is the wondering whether he will or won't, and if he does, will he get caught again and force us all to rationalize his behavior because we voted for him. Twice.

. I supported the Clintons throughout their two terms in offices, but I am just so tired of waiting for those 3rd, 4th, and 5th shoes to drop. Why put ourselves throught that kind of stress again when we don't have to.

funny how any time a woman in politics shows some b***s, she's castigated as a Medusa (or a harridan, take your pick). Makes me suspect that what people like you really want/expect when a woman is challenged is for her to get on her back and put her legs up.

Entitlement? NO. I'm no fan of anybody in that family; but this race has been way to hot, hard'n'heavy for any such sense to have survivied in the Clinton girls. Try again.

.....................boy, did you figure me wrong! I should have been a Clinton supporter.............Latino, woman over 45, very much in the "feminist" vein. A person who went to Stanford Law on a full scholarship [know any "Latinos" that can afford the tuition otherwise???] after graduating fro San Diego State University. I can tell you that for the many, many times I was challenged, I NEVER ONCE got on my back [jesus, Danny, how cliche can you get?] NEVER ONCE! I object to Clinton because if not for the fact that she was married to Bill, she would never gotten this far. Those are her credentials......her marriage to Bill. Omitting that in her CV, she is just another 2nd term senator from New York. She's a consumate liar [Bosnia under fire?] Which kinda reminds everybody of what we have all had for the last 8 years [Dumbass]. She lies at the drop of a hat. I will ever forgive her for the scars she continues to inflict on the Democratic Party in a race she cannot win!............jesus, do the friggin math........................

P.S. A smart man like James Carville just got scratched off my fav list.............I shoulda known you were just another hack looking for a check...............

Rudeness and balls are not quite the same thing. And if Obama's church going and personal faith are acceptable political fodder, surely the philandering lout who may possibly return to the White House to screw more interns is fair game. Hillary stayed with Bill to further her own political career. Sound judgement? That's a fair question.

What struck me about this micro-scandal was the stupidity of both the question and the response. The question (did Lewinsky damage Hillary's credibility) is really incapable of being answered by Chelsea. We, the voters, get to answer that question, not the daughter of the candidate. The questioner could have asked "why shouldn't her credibility be damaged?" or, even better, "in your eyes, did your mother's credibility suffer by standing by her philandering husband...and...subpart...do you believe your parents' continued marriage is now based on political expediency rather than the typical bedrocks of marriage, trust and devotion?" That friends, is an effing question. We'll chalk up the flubbed query to a missed opportunity.

The answer was also stupid. It's none of our business? Hillary's credibility is not our business? Obviously Chelsea wasn't listening closely if she interpreted the question as a personal affront when mechanically it was a pure political question.

The questions about Lewinsky will be asked and the debate is essential prior to a Hillary presidency. However, the questions should not come from a college student and answers from Chelsea are probably not worth much. As a fan of political theater and an enemy of bullshit, it will be enjoyable to watch the question posed to Hillary.

And Hilary's screeching and demanding apologies from almost everybody who decides to support somebody else is not vicious? Sending out James Carville to call Richardson "Judas" is not vicious? Sending out Carville to demand that Howard Dean be fired is not vicious? For gawddsakes, open up your ears and eyes and take a good hard look at your little sweetiepies and their demands for people to be fired. Then take another good hard look at all of the working people who lost their jobs thanks to NAFTA, all of the disemployed who, thanks to Hillary, had NO HEALTH INSURANCE and still don't have any.

While it was a reasonable question to ask, and the answer IS our business,
IT WAS NOT REASONABLE TO ASK IT OF CHELSEA..

I wonder if his parents are embarassed that he's their kid and that he is such a lout...maybe someone could ask them, IN FRONT OF A CROWD, if they think his attempt to embarass Chelsea is an embarassment to THEM and makes them look like bad parents.

Did you hear the interview with the guy who asked the question? He was a Hillary supporter and he was tired of having to answer the question himself. It was perhaps a reasonable question to Hillary but not to Chelsea, this is going back to the personal...the questioner was or is a Hillary supporter but a tactless one at that, if he wants to be reaffirmed of Hillary's ability to lead he should have framed the question differently.
Women (and men) are hurt when and if their spouses commit adultery. The way they deal with it is not indicative of their job performance and none of anyone's business....the questioner's inquiry suggests that Hillary political career was borne out of Bill's infidelity...the Lewinsky affair made Hillary into a strong presidential candidate....that's insane and insulting....

JAKIE, based on your idiotic response: I GOT NEWS FOR CHELSA CLINTON THAT QUESTION WAS A GOOD ONE. IT WAS AMERICA'S BUSINESS BILL CLINTON WAS LIVING IN AMERICA'S HOUSE. WE PAY THE BILLS IN THAT HOUSE AND HE LIED AND CHEATED IN THAT HOUSE OF OURS.

The same would hold true for Bush, Rove, Cheney, Condi, Rummie and all the other scum.... I don't see you or your ilk demanding they answer questions... why the _ _ _ _ not? Ironically, the Lewinsky scandal was of a personal nature, not like lying us into war, not like having the Oil Companies dictate Energy Policy, not like saying we're going to equipment our troops with EVERYTHING they need and not do so, it's not like when Condi was given a memo that said, Bin Laden is hell bent on attacking the home front and ignoring it and then eventually lying about it claiming Would would have ever thought... etc, etc.

Those questions have never been treated with any dignity by any asshole in this administration, yet you want to know about Bill and Hillary's personal info? Get screwed, it's none of your business... and this crap about the White House being some sacred ground... it is treated with the same respect the residence are given, nothing more nothing less. And NO presidents have, or has left more shame and foul smelling stynche when finally gone than Nixon and Bush!

I think people need to stop allowing Newt Gingrich to pull their chains.

Everyone is STILL stunned by all the salacious details of the Bill and Monica fling... I mean, you
might not know more if you had been in the room..

Has it ever occurred to any of you that the nitty gritty details were not at all necessary to prove
the case Star was supposed to be making? So why did he hound Lewinsky until he got them? Why did grand jury testimony get published?

Think on this the next time you read some journalist, or some grand jury leaker discuss who wore sox while he was having sex...

The same kind of mind would demand Chelsea answer a question about it - and the same kinds of reporters would publish it.

Something terribly wrong with our Justice system.

Someone is pulling your chains for their own benefit....

Don't fall for it.

It strikes me that Hillary's Tuzla lie was not unnoticed by her daughter because her daughter, as the video shows, was right there with her all along yet she did nothing to correct the record when her mother lied about sniper fire. Her dad lies under oath, her mom lies about her experience, and Chelsea, knowing the truth, instead remains silent. The whole family is not worthy of our attention, let alone our vote.

I think it is ridiculous the way the Clintons act like nothing they do is anyone’s business. Chelsea’s mother is running for president. I have heard people say that Clinton’s affairs are no ones business. What goes on in their home is no ones business. Well, bull crap! Their home was the White House! If Clinton is worried about Obama’s association with Wright then maybe she should be worried about her association with her husband. (A sexual predator) That is everyone’s business. Wow, I am so tired of the Clintons getting a free ride. I wish the media and the people of America would call a lie a lie instead of she mis-spoke and I wish the media and the people of America would hold the Clintons accountable for their crap and stop acting like they are Gods! Her attitude about Bosnia was flippant and that really ticked me off.

I felt really mixed about this moment. But in the end, I can't be overly sympathetic with Chelsea since they do everything in their power to keep her in a bubble while she campaigns for her mother. She's a grown woman but refuses to talk to the media. That's just weak.

The fact that it took a college student to ask a tough, uncomfortable question of this nature is ironic. Even the media wouldn't have likely gone there.

By her reply, she showed that she has some of her mom in her. Too bad for her.
