Chelsea Clinton Has Quick Response For Lewinsky Question

INDIANAPOLIS — Chelsea Clinton had a quick retort Tuesday when asked whether her mother's credibility had been hurt during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

"Wow, you're the first person actually that's ever asked me that question in the, I don't know maybe, 70 college campuses I've now been to, and I do not think that is any of your business," Clinton said during a campaign visit for her mother, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

On Tuesday, the student journalist defended his decision to ask the question during in appearance on Dan Abrams' Verdict on MSNBC. He told Abrams that the question wasn't meant "to pry into their private life" but was more about demonstrating how Clinton had overcome a difficult experience. Abrams and the panel, which included HuffPost's own Rachel Sklar, talked about the difficulties reporters encounter in trying to question Chelsea Clinton.

Look at the facts. She's promoting someone for PUBLIC office. She was asked about a scandal. It is within the rights of a constituent to ask if that has implications. So what if she's related. She is an adult promoting a candidate. She's also not a "kid" but in the honorable profession of Hedge Funds (a chip off the old block). Her comment coming from anyone else on Hillary's campaign would be seen as extremely rude. It was.

I had seen Chelsea on t.v. for years, but never heard her speak.

But now that I have heard her speak, I long for those earlier days.

It was a difficult and uncomfortable question, but it could have been gracefully responded to with a simple taking of the high-road, such as "thank you, but I do not wish to comment on that question."

Instead, her response came off as calculatingly nasty, unnecessarily bitter, and willfully bullying.

The answer she should of gave was simply "no", full stop. She wasn't required to elaborate and I'm sure her opinion is that her mother's credibility wasn't damaged. It's always better to answer the question with a simple by accurate answer, even without explanation, then it is to avoid the question and even worse, attack the questioner. That position seems to say that we as the people who are electing you (remember they work for us, they are our employees) don't have a right to respect or even obtain answers to questions. This is especially true with respect to the Clintons who appear to have problems telling the truth ("I didn't have sexual relations with that women", the Hillary dodging sniper fire story, and all the others), as such a quesion about credibility is especially relevant to Hillary's possible election.

But to ask her DAUGHTER about her father's famous affair???? What kind of response did he expect from Chelsea?? I'm in denial? I cried? I am stronger because of it? Seriously. Why does the answer even matter? I was bothered deeply by Hillary's over-protective attitude with Chelsea and the press, not allowing her own 27-year old daughter to talk to the press.
