INDIANAPOLIS — Chelsea Clinton had a quick retort Tuesday when asked whether her mother's credibility had been hurt during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

"Wow, you're the first person actually that's ever asked me that question in the, I don't know maybe, 70 college campuses I've now been to, and I do not think that is any of your business," Clinton said during a campaign visit for her mother, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

On Tuesday, the student journalist defended his decision to ask the question during in appearance on Dan Abrams' Verdict on MSNBC. He told Abrams that the question wasn't meant "to pry into their private life" but was more about demonstrating how Clinton had overcome a difficult experience. Abrams and the panel, which included HuffPost's own Rachel Sklar, talked about the difficulties reporters encounter in trying to question Chelsea Clinton.

I simply can't get my arms around the Hillary hatred in this country, from every direction. I swear, the liberals are worse than the right wingers. I am just blown away by the vicious, hateful comments and posts on this and other sites. It's the worst smear job I've ever seen. It just never stops. Even Olbermann is on the attack, every single day. He's lost all credibility in my book. It's like a lynching, a witch hunt. How can we take liberals seriiously when they've completely lost their objectivity in this rabid, mindless attack on Hillary?

The question was fair, the answer was fair.

However, I don't know why the Clinton's have her out there talking..she is one of the most un-inspiring and boring speakers I have ever heard...I've heard more energy from John MCBombBomb.

Oh come on, Chelsea was courteous, quick on her feet, shocked and honest. I respect her answer and this young man was very rude. The question was not any of his business. If he wanted to show how brave HRC was...pick something that could have some real answers. My gosh...I am not anymore a HRC fan, but I am aware of which lines should no be crossed and that was one of them. And I don't care if she has been in public life for 35 years, 60 years, or 2 years.

Or having sex with an intern in the White House while your wife is there. Then lying to the public about it, while obstructing justice. Then lying to the Federal Prosecutor under oath, right? Why would that be any of our business as an elected official.

How can you "obstruct justice," when no crime has been committed??? Bill broke no laws in having an extra-marital affair. It happens every day, in America and the rest of the world.
Newt Gingrich admitted to having an affair of his own, WHILE he engineered the witch hunt against Bill.
If you want to blame someone for blowing this up way out of proportion, and bringing it into the public forum, blame the republican witch hunters that wouldn't let the story die.

BTW, Bill was aquitted. He has also been re-instated to the BAR.

What Bill did was on "company time" instead of tending to his job, and he lied, and Hillary made excuses for him. After commenting on "we choose our pastor" I say "we also choose our spouse" and if we stick with him when he disappoints why can't Obama stick with his pastor, who 90% of the time isn't controversial?

Company time? Maybe he did it on his lunch hour! Maybe it was a holliday. Apples and oranges dude. Standing by your spouse in good times and bad, is a common marriage vow. It is almost automatically assumed by those getting married to each other.
No such vows are required to pick a preacher.
Rational Dem????? I doubt it.

And yes, my screen-name is mispelled.

Well Chelsea you would be right, IF....Your mother was not running for president. Since she is vetted, has 35 years worth of experience and has taken all that the right has thrown at her, how did she handle this one?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:48 PM on 03/26/2008

I don't care about her response to what was a horribly tacky question about her family. Good for her about shutting that down. But I do care about her response to the question about the veracity of her mother's statement about Bosnia, seeing as she was there. Now THAT is a news item that is worth any kind of reporting and that Chelsea has left herself open to, because of her active campaigning for her mom and she's an adult now. She doesn't get to hide behind being a kid who doesn't have a choice anymore.

I like Chelsea and think she's a great testament to her parents, but she's not off-limits when she makes political statements. Too bad this story is about stupid personal things.

I honestly don't understand why someone who has put herself out into the public eye on behalf of her mother's campaign believes that a question about a scandal in the White House that embroiled this nation is "none of our business." I was actually shocked when I heard her say that.
What a difference it would have made if she had said something like, "As you can imagine, that was a very dark time for my family. And much has been written and debated about that time. But I can tell you that whatever my father did or didn't do, I'm incredibly proud of my mother for making it through that time and showing how strong of a person she is. Her credibility was never in question during that time, and it shouldn't be in question now."
Coming off the last dark seven years, I worry tremendously about a candidate who thinks that their former eight years in the White House is "their business." Bush and his cronies have never allowed competing, external voices to question what they've done--and that is where our nation suffered.
So, Clinton needs to run the kind of transparent campaign...and White House...that I think Obama is offering to us. Enough hiding ... enough holier-than-thou postering ... and enough of politicians who believe they have the God-given right to be elected President.

Rather than choosing to lie about it under oath, Bill Clinton is the one who should have said "None of your business." We'd be living in a better country today if he had.

You go, Chelsea! Perhaps the wrong Clinton is running for President!

When you step into the political arena, you are going to get "burned" sometime. That response Chelesa gave, was no answer. When you have to start defending anyone, you have lost. Mommy should have trained her better. It is the price she will continue to pay for the mischief of her father and Hillary's decision to remain with him; the price she is paying today.

Until and unless it effects their ability to do their job, a politician's personal life is not the public's business. Both Bill and Hillary rose above the "scandal," and that should be the end of it.

Who her father had sex with (or whatever you want to call it) isn't even Chelsea's business. Chelsea said exactly the right thing.

"had sex with (or whatever you want to call it"

Bill Clinton said he didn't have sexual relations with that woman........look sexual relations up in the dictionary and technically he didn't lie.............and most people call it what it was........nothing but a blow job.

It's none of our business about her mothers lies? Bosnia, Right Wing Conspiracy, FBI files, Who she was named after, Chelsea almost killed on 9/11
It's none of our business about how her father lies? Monica

It's all about credibility, and once again you liberals don't think our concerns matter. It's all about showing how elite you are and how you think you know better.

Your true colors are shining through

Way to show your inability to read, or even watch a video and understand the point of this article. Talk about showing true colors! Your first two sentences have nothing to do with Chelsea be asked about the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

Of course it's our business, but I wonder how anyone who calls us "you liberals" can bring up the subject of credibility, considering the lies and deceptions of the current administration and the devastation it has caused. We can't trust Hillary, but we certainly can't trust Bush, Cheney and crew. I don't trust McCain either. I trust Obama.

If it wasn't any of our business where the current President was hiding out while coking it up, and deserting from his National Guard service, then this sure isn't any of our business.

Bill Clinton's relationship with Monica Lewinsky has nothing to do with Hillary's credibility. That's just too stupid. It's like saying it was her fault because she married him. There's the intelligence level of the Obama people.

I will respect Chelsea’s privacy and refrain criticism of her as long as Mom and Dad stop trotting her out to promote her lying parents’ campaign.

Once they put her out there, she becomes fair game. The Clintons want it both ways: “See how our wonderful and articulate daughter represents us on the campaign trail? But don’t you dare criticize her or ask questions concerning our past actions! That’s off limits.”

It’s the Elizabeth Edwards ploy all over again.

When you are getting pimped you gotta expect that sorta thing.

Trotting? Pimped? Criticize past actions? Your name is BigLib, yet you are using the rhetoric of Fox News, while not addressing the issue at hand; an idiot asks Chelsea about one of her parents infidelities!?

Your own flaw is in pretending that this concerns Hillary's "past actions." Hillary rose above this debacle, she didn't create it.

Good response, except...

You can't pick your family. The Lewinsky thing is part of our history, right or wrong. It will always be linked to the Clinton legacy. So, before campaigning for a Clinton, know that this is a question that will come up. Sorry.

It IS our business!! The American taxpayer paid mucho bucks for Bill's hubris, as he took his eye off Bin Laden and the future prospects of the Gore years and handed them to Bush. She has a marriage of political ambition and convenience; most of the blue-collar workers she panders to have much more personal integrity in their marriages than she had. Finally, misspoke means lie??
