Hollywood Reporter:

The National Football League and NBC will likely move up the time of the league's September season opener so it won't conflict with presidential nominee John McCain's acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention.

Since 2002, the NFL has held its season opener on the first Thursday night after Labor Day. This year, the game runs smack into the final night of the convention, when McCain will officially accept the nomination and give a nationally televised speech from Minneapolis.

Maybe Commissioner Goodell thinks that if he makes enough nice with the Republicans, Arlen Specter will Spygate erased tapes investigation. Worth a try.

What a joke. My Friends, Anyone can tell you what McCain will say.
We need to stay the course for 100 years My Friends.
Don't worry about the cost of the war My Friends.
Haliburtion will pay for the war from the loose pocket change that they have fleeced from our defense contracts My Friends.
Don't worry about where we will get the troops needed to fight this war My Friends.
What free market economy My Friends. We will bail out Wall Street. My Friends.
A bail out of Wall Street and by default the wealthiest 25% who we will also give a tax break to is not corporate welfare My Friends.
Folks on Main Street don't expect your govenment to help you out, what we will do for you is give our wealthiest 25% tax breaks and their crumbs will trickle down to you. My Friends.
If I had an original thought I'd tell you My Friends.
Sorry, I don't have anything substantive to say My Friends.
Thanks to the NFL for allowing me the opportunity bore you My Friends.
It's eight o'clock, and past my bed time My Friends so I bid you a good night My Friends.

Quite the harbinger of things to come if the elderly McCain gets elected. In addition to Early Bird Specials for dinner, we now have Early Bird Football.

I'm praying for overtime in this game, just to see if McCain can handle a late bedtime.

They would've done the same thing if the Dems' convention was at that time. This is no big deal. If anything, it shows that the stupid conventions should have been over by then AND that the NFL season is way too long (not to mention BORING!!).

I'm sure I would feel differently if this was the time meant for Barack's great acceptance speech but

why should the NFL give up this date to J W McBomb's coronation as our next selected pResident?

If NBC thinks this will snag some to watch the McCain speech both they and the GOP are in for a big surprise.

They'll play the game on Tuesday in prime time during Bush's speech IF he is invited. They will have to try some sleight of hand to keep people from watching that speech.

The Dem convention will be more entertaining due to OPERATION CHAOS

Oh, great. I'd much rather watch McBush's speech than the season opener.

I think I have a compromise. The NFL should play the game their normal time, featuring the Giants and New England, and they can run a commercial in which McCain gives a sales ptich for his Edsel -- a continuation of the Iraq occupation into the indefinite future.

Let McCain sell his Edsel.

That's funny. I usually watch football so I don't have to listen to the delusional rantings of some old guy. I hope McCain remembers what war he's supposed to be talking about. Oh yeah, that's right: World War III (or are we up to IV by now?)

Hope he remembers to show up.
