Poll: Obama Regains Big Lead In North Carolina

A new poll by Public Policy Polling (pdf) has Obama regaining a sizable lead the dissipated during the worst of the Wright controversy coverage. Obama leads in the poll by 21 points over his rival, 55-34.

Obama leads 80-14% among black voters.

Clinton leads 47-40% among white voters, which is a noticeable tightening; she led 56-30% only a week before.

Edwards has made his own personal calculation that he does not want to alienate or offend either the Clinton or Obama campaigns. His remaining neutral is a hghly Machiavellian maneuver which while seemingly shrewd to protect his own political capital may not win him any leverage in a future administration. I suspect that he wants to support OBAMA as it is the only bottom up campaign but he wants to make sure that the WITCH is dead before lending his weight. Hillary is already positioning for 2012. My bet is that Hillary got Edwards to hold off from endorsing OBAMA.

My friends in NC tell me John Edwards is not popular there and would not have won the election had he run again for the Senate. Don't know if this is true, but I'm not sure his endorsement means much now.

If they do that now, it still won't put Obama over the top but it will let Clinton play her victim card yet again. I think they are waiting until all the voting is over before they endorse Obama en masse. This way, their endorsements will put him over the top and the media can declare Obama the winner. We would still have about two months before the convention to try to repair all the damage Clinton has caused.
