Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) hints at some behind-the-scenes activity to bring the Democratic nomination race to a close:

Q: Do you still think the Democratic race can be resolved before the convention?

Reid: Easy.

Q: How is that?

Reid: It will be done.

Q: It just will?

Reid: Yep.

Q: Magically?

Reid: No, it will be done. I had a conversation with Governor Dean (Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean) today. Things are being done.

Washington Monthly's Kevin Drum adds, "My mind is now at rest. Thanks, Harry."

Supers are migrating to BO.

Donors drying up.

Media catching on.

Eventually voters will to..

HRC can stay in as long as she likes, but she should bow out gracefully.

It's over.

This automatic presumption that Obama will be the one, without allowing "the people" to have their say, I would hope there will be a price for their lack of respect for the people. And all of you adamant Obama supporters, it is very sad that no one will admit that the bottom line is this:

Clinton is not THAT far behind
She has a right to remain in the race as long as no one has reached the 2025
Seeing as NEITHER of them will reach 2025 after all is said and done it gives her even more reason to be allowed to stay in.
And just a news flash to all those who seem to forget? It is THE PEOPLE that are voting for HER, and it is THEM that are stating they do not trust Obama, and do not agree with him. So why is it that people seem to assume she is wrong for staying in? Huckabee stayed! And he was WAY farther behind, and did not get NEAR the flack for it.

As long as they all wait until the end of the voters say, then yes, they should hold the super delegate vote sooner than later. They had better also do something about Michigan and Florida. Too many people are screaming to have the peoples say as the final word. If you are going to have the peoples say, it has to include ALL the people, and that means those two too.

You got your blinders on. Of course, the remaining primaries will happen, however; Obama will be ahead in the popular vote, the number of delegates won, and the number of states won. And since Rodham Clinton frequently uses lies to embellish her resume, how trustworthy does that make her? Objectively, she looks more and more like an empty suit. Along with her considerable baggage it is fair to question her electability in the general election.

Verseige, you are the voice of reason. Obviously not an Obama supporter. They can and do argue both sides of an issue to contort their arguments into support for Obama and hate for Hillary.

Verseige,

I think Harry Reid is alluding to the time between the last primary in PR and the convention in August. I don't think anything will be done prematurely to wrap this up before all the "people" have voted. I think what Dean, Reid, and others are saying is that, once all the votes have been counted, the Dems want to avoid a brawl at the actual convention. There is fear that if McCain is able to coast for six whole months before his challenger in November is decided, he will walk into the presidency.

As an Obama supporter I feel it's crucial that every vote be counted, and the voice of Democrats and like-minded fellow travelers be heard, even in places like Guam, VI, and PR that won't vote in November.

And, anticipating your next comment, the problems with Florida and Michigan are not Obama's fault. HRC herself even said (back when she thought she was going to win the nomination on Super Tuesday) that it didn't matter. Sad the votes don't get counted but it's not Obama's fault.

Hillary was a big phoney from the beginning and that's how she will be remembered.

No, Hillary will be remembered as the First Lady under the gun in Bosnia. She will be remembered for her bravery in running from sniper fire and taking the 8 year old girl's stuff because she just couldn't leave her there. You see, Hillary took the stuff but who took the little girl? The big lie! That is what I will remember. hahahaha

You mean this is how she will remember herself:) Perhaps, in her old age, she'll remember being President too. LOL

Non-issue: Reid is talking about the supedelegate primary or some sort of superdelegate agreement after Puerto Rico.

When two states are thrown out, and all those voters are silenced, it's hard to respect the politics of the Party.

It is not the fault of Michigan and Florida voters that the votes were held outside of a timeline. It is, and will be the fault of the Democratic party, to nullify those voters in total.

Yeah.

When Reid says "things are being done" I know from his record that nothing will change.

And hopefully "things are also being done" to end Reid's ineffective tenure as Majority Leader.

Last week when the media relentlessly attacked Obama over not anything he said, but rather remarks that were taken completely out of context that came from someone else and Harry Reid was silent. This week, when the media finally bothers to notice that Hillary isn't telling the truth, Reid says to stop attacking the candidates because it makes the party look weaker. It's disturbing.

It is fine to have this primary go to the end, but not in the manner that Clinton has been conducting it. Her behavior yesterday was despicable, desperate, and shows her true character.

I am especially disappointed with the contributors to Huffington Post. You are all one-sided, just despise Clinton, because she committed the unpardonable sin of voting for Iraq war resolution. Seems to me that HUffPo systematically excludes all writers who are supportive of Clinton - case in point Earl Ofari Hutchison, he has been relagated to the back pages.

What are the big differences between the stated positions of Clinton and Obama? I ask you of any issue. Only differences between the two are he made a speech in 2002 opposing the war, where as Clinton CHAed in voting for the resolution authorizing use of force to get Saddam Hussein to let UN inspectors into Iraq. So what is the big deal. Obama isn't the only Oracle who said it was a bad idea, I did too. Should I be running for president? Obama's record after getting to US senate is identical to Clinton's. So please do not fulminate about how he would bring prosperity and decency to the government. I am unequivocally for Clinton, because she has been around the block for long enough to deal with the situations that she will face in the White House, than Obama is. Give me 5 things that Obama has championed, or envisioned and laid any intellectual framework or organizational legwork for a national endeavors in policy areas or social areas. I can name by the dozens such community organizers, we can start with Jesse Jackson he free-lanced in international diplomacy etc.

Dear Secular: First of all, read Joe Wilson's article in today's edition. It may be one-sided, but certainly not in Obama's favor. And then think about Senator Clinton's increasingly desperate attempts to smear Obama. Yes, she has been around the block long enuogh. . .to lie and play dirty politics, perhaps at the cost of four years of John McCain. . .

Their policy differences are not all that different. Most of us are championing Senator Obama simply because he is demonstrating the type of leadership so many of us are looking for in the next president. Quite honestly, prior to the the Texas and Ohio primaries, I was thrilled with the prospect of either candidate being our next democratic nominee. But the Clinton campaign took a right turn leading up to the Texas and Ohio primaries and clearly decided that the only way to win was to present Senator Obama as unelectable and "not ready to be commander in chief", even going so far as implying that John McCain would be a better president.

Senator Obama has never cried foul during the campaign. He has consistently stated that he would support and campaign for Senator Clinton if she won the nomination. He wrote and delivered what I personally believe was one of the finest speeches I have ever heard. He has rejected lobbyist and PAC money.

To me there is a clear difference between the candidates, but it is deeper than just policy differences.

Exactly. If one really wants to get a sense of how a candidate will govern, look at how they run their campaign. Besides the poor financial and strategic planning, the upheaval in staff, the willingness to lie, exaggerate and distort her record to gain an advantage, and her constant negative attacks on Obama, Hillary Clinton is the ONE candidate I want NO WHERE NEAR the White House while cleaning up after the Bush Dynasty. She should go back to being a senator. Maybe, with some more experience, she might become a decent one, if she decides to stop being so poll-driven, and stands on REAL principles.

I'm with you, bhyman. I wrote often about the luxury of having at least three excellent candidates, any one of whom I would have been happy to support. After the political gamesmanship of the Clinton campaign in the last weeks, I've become quite disillusioned with Mrs. Clinton. I still feel she would probably do a good job as president, if she could avoid only being responsive to her big contributors. Nevertheless, I trust her much less after all the nasty tricks and attacks she and hers have used to manipulate an American public that is, by and large, too gullible and unsophisticated to recognize these tactics for what they are: smear and fear campaigns.

The Democrats can't let the states hold primary elections(Florida-Michigan), so the super delegates are going to have to vote soon. Incidentally, Obama is going to shoulder the burden of this. If the offer him a seat on the ticket with Hillary, I would not take it. He should let her run with her own VP nominee. He should continue to take the high road. And Hillary can pick up Mr Edwards as her running mate.

If the Supers go against the will of the voters the Dems will have a very hard time winning the general. In a year when it should be a lock. I seriously doubt this will happen.

Typical Clinton talking point. Discuss the options from the ASSUMPTION that she will be the nominee. That hubris and sense of entitlement is EXACTLY why so many people do not want her as the nominee NOW.
