Talking Points Memo:

As you know, earlier today Hillary Clinton tried to stoke the Jeremiah Wright controversy by telling an editorial board meeting in Pittsburgh that Jeremiah Wright "would not have been my pastor" and then going on to note that she had denounced Don Imus in contrast to Obama's allegedly more tolerant attitude toward hate speech....

Now obviously, Hillary's been in the political big leagues for a while. She knows how to deflect a question. But it's actually much richer than this. This afternoon Greg Sargent and I were talking this over and one of us realized that this wasn't just any Pittsburgh paper. It was the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the money-losing, vanity, fringe sheet of Richard Mellon Scaife, funder of the Arkansas Project, the American Spectator during its prime Clinton-hunting years and virtually every right-wing operation of note at one point or another over the last twenty years or more.

OBAMA'S money, the MAJORITY of his money has been raised on line with the average donation of $102.00, so she ran to Melonhead and asked him for another check!

While there is a lot of enlightened, insightful thought going on on here, I sometimes wonder if Republicans, disguised as Obama or Clinton supporters, are posting nasty, negative, rude comments, trying to get us pissed off at each other. Clinton has had a bad showing this week. Nothing new there. But can we use this opportunity to move the dialogue to a higher level?

Obama has run an impressively positive campaign. Having us supporters beating up on Clinton when she's already given herself a black eye does not achieve much. That is, assuming that you want the people of this party to unite. Obama seems to be doing a good job of steering clear of divisive tactics. That doesn't mean we can't challenge Clinton. It is fine to call her on a lie, or ask her taxes. It is fine to correct blog entries that are not factual. But we don't have to stoop to childish tactics while doing so. Words like "Liar" or "Idiot" only move us further from our goal -- Obama as president with a united party behind him.

Obama supporters have the upper hand. Obama is likely to be the nominee. It is understandable that Clinton supporters show angst.

Right now, many of these Clinton supporters are wavering. Some might be talked into supporting Obama. But you can't do that with acid tongues.

When I read something like this, it makes it very hard for me to believe that her problem all along is bad advisors who like dirty politics and will do anything to win. I have tried very hard to believe this and that she is exhasted, understandably, accounting for some of her actions. But how can you meet with these people except in pure self interest, and not that of the country? It is the equivalent of some of John McCain's new friends: cozy up to anybody you think might help you win. I still will vote for Hillary if she is the nominee just because of what could come with it: more Dems in the Congress and a less reactionary Supreme court and appointees in general. But I'm afraid it will be against John McCain, not for Hillary.

Question: why on Earth would you give the time of day to a paper run by the loon who suggested you had something to do with a murder, among other outlandish things? You wouldn't. Unless you had formed an unholy alliance with the aim of winning an election in future times you wouldn't. Come to think of it, why the heck is McCain so friendly with Bush al of a sudden? I wouldn't talk to a guy who viciously smeared me in a primary election.

She's done. If she thinks she has a run in 2012, she's WRONG. She's done, for good! The Clintons screwed the party in 1994, 1996, and again in 2000, and 2004. Do they REALLY think the party will forgive this last round, when Clinton has played her hand shown how little she's worth.

I wonder if Hillary really realizes just how she is perceived? Since she can't come to the realization on her own how she is, do you think she may hear what the public is saying amongst themselves? Or is she being shielded from all of this?

The public wants to know!

She is perceived by the millions of people who have voted for her as an extremely intelligent and competent person, ready to make a great president. Next question?

I love HuffPo. Anyone with a brain knows that Clinton only answers questions of those who have been planted in the crowd. Idon't have to go looking for proof. You guys do it for me! Life on HuffPo is great. Thank you to all the investigative bloggers who do such a fine job here :)

The most relevant question I'd like to see her answer is how she remembered in such detail being under sniper fire from snipers who were not there. It is importaant to know if a potential commander-in-chief is delusional. Someone, please ask her!!

It would also be nice to know her trick of achieving great results like the opening of the Macedonian border two days before she could have been there and able even to start anything at all. That's a magic trick she should teach all our diplomats!

And I'd like to ask of every reporter with access to her why he hasn't pursued these wonderpowers of hers.

Not one to give up, I am still wondering if her Dr. Martin L. King speech experience was a "Bosnia" type memory. Her attendance does not mesh with descriptions of her family background and later stint as Goldwater Girl. The youth minister's memory was vague at best.

The vast right wing conspiracy is supporting her: witness, Mississippi, Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania: as are the old Democrat machines. Have the New York and New Jersey votes been accurately counted yet?

The point is for a week she was "mum" about the situation and now that people are losing patience and want to see those damn tax returns, she finally speaks about it. you know she actually had the right to say "no comment', but she felt so strong about it to speak about it now. please.

Wow, Senator Hillary Clinton's sell-out moment,...with Richard Mellon Scaife as her right-hand man.

At first I had this huge smile of 'I told ya so' satisfaction on my face. Then, I suddenly realized that I, and every Democrat, who has ever supported or defended the reputation of Bill and Hillary Clinton has been proved a fool.

As of yesterday, Senator Clinton achieved a level of dignity to match her chance of becoming Democratic presidential nominee; none. I don't know about you, but the man who spent years and millions dragging my name, and my family's name through the mud is the last man I would go begging to. Scaife even showed up personally to the interview to watch her grovel.

When I first heard of her deflecting the criticism for dragging out the Wright issue again by say she was only answering a question, I thought, "Yeah, sure." Of course it was planned.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:58 PM on 03/26/2008

whats the point?
She talked to somebody and she answered a question? Stoke the fire? Please.

She was asked and she answered, there was no attack. It wasn't like the story was dead and she brought it up..(unlike 15 year old stories that are brought up against her by... whoever...) she didn't bring it up, the story was not dead, as late as last nights talking heads the questions were still being asked about what is he going to do about Wright?
(personally I thought he did plenty with his stunning and admirable speech) the media has been beating it to death. She answered a question. Give me a break.
Senator Obama had done this same kind of thing many times.
Fair is fair... I really have such a hard time understaning the irrational hatred toward this woman.

Get lives and do something useful. Go protest something in washington, practice civil disobedience against some of what the damn crimminals are doing this minute, now.

We spend our time on gotcha crap instead of paying attention to reality.
sickening.

Please, Gore and Howard Dean stop her, before she ruins it all for the Demacratic party. this should tell you she is loseing it! She's haveing a break down here! the more she lose's, the more dangerouse the woman gets. her thirst for Power has caused her to lose sight of reality. For pete sake--------Bullets fllying over head, her an chelsey in danger and etc. etc. --------to dangerouse for her husband, so they sent her! Makes him sound like she thought he was a coward who never did any thing! That she and she alone did all this foreign, dangerouse things. She's not liveing in reality any more! Any how she don't live in our reality--------------only the one she made for herself in her head. Do any of you realize how loony this woman is sounding, an the lie's and reality problems-------------man when does it end?

It wasn't just a random question at a press conference. It seemed (from the blurb above) that it was an editorial board meeting at a newspaper, and that newspaper is the newspaper that attacked them when they were in office.

So it was more than being asked a question, and answering it.

That being said, I am not sure of the significance of the point, although I am sure there must be one.

Wildcatdiva: we will have to explain these things to people like accountability. The bigger picture here is she's doing EXACTLY what Bush does. Bush will not take impromptu questions and the only people in the audience can only be fervent supporters. Hillary can't take the impromptu questions and the fact that she her campaign says she's not sure how much she knows about her own energy policy!

Bill Clinton and Richard Mellon Scaife held a 2 hour lunch meeting in July of 2007 that went largely unreported, except briefly by Newsweek and by Mother Jones. At the end of the meeting, a Scaife spokesman declared Bill and Richard had a "mutual admiration society."

After Mellon Scaife spent millions of dollars and years digging up the dirt on the Clintons, they have a 2 hour lunch and are now best buddies??? Just what went on in that meeting?

Of course, Hillary also had a fundraiser by Rupert Murdoch of FOX noise in which he riased $60,000 for her campaign. Hillary defended Rupert's fundraiser to the London Financial Times saying "He's my constituent and I'm very gratified that he thinks I'm doing a good job."

It appears Hillary Clinton has joined the great right wing conspiracy she always protested against.
