Carvill

Long time Clinton backer James Carville charged on Thursday that, prior to endorsing Sen. Barack Obama, Bill Richardson promised several "very, very senior" Clinton supporters that he would back the New York Democrat.

Carville said the matter was "terribly mishandled" by Richardson and that the New Mexico governor owed Clinton supporters an apology.

Appearing on CNN's Larry King Live, Carville was asked to explain why, in the aftermath of Richardson's endorsement, he referred the New Mexico Governor as Judas, selling his political soul for 30 pieces of silver.

"He made misrepresentations," said the raging Cajun. "He told people he was going to endorse Senator Clinton, that he couldn't endorse someone else. And at the same time, apparently, he was doing something else, and people are justifiably and understandably furious about this. I have never attacked any other supporter of Senator Obama. Many of them are dear friends of mine. Some of them are some of my best friends. I thought this was an exceptional case that merited special consideration."

Carville's appearance on CNN represents the deepest elaboration yet on his Richardson remark. The former Bill Clinton aide and frequent CNN contributor had described Richardson's endorsement of Obama as "an act of betrayal," appropriate for the week of Easter. Asked about the comment in the days that followed, Carville simply stated that he had been quoted accurately. On Thursday night, he provided greater context.

Richardson, he said, had been making promises to the Clinton folks as recently as "a month ago." And, as evidence, he named names of those who had been given assurances, including prominent Clinton fundraisers Elizabeth Bagley, Haim Saban, and Alan Patricof.

"My phone has been ringing off the hook with people," said Carville, "donors in the Democratic Party, telling me that he made representations to them that are not true.... I think what the governor needs to do is say that he hasn't handled this very well, he's not candid and frank with people, and I think this whole thing will go away. But I think he owes a lot of people in this party an apology."

Richardson, at the time of this publication, could not be reached for comment. But he did have a defender on the CNN program. Michael Eric Dyson, an Obama supporter, cautioned both the host as well as Carville to put the endorsement into a lighter perspective.

"I think we're making too much of this," he said. "I can understand the disappointment that has come as a result, in the aftermath of Governor Richardson's decision, but to single him out with such venom, and with such lack of balance, on both sides. This is a bitterly contested war, so to speak, and they are going after anybody they can. Obama has lost and won some, in terms of endorsements. To single this out as the extraordinary act of a Judas, misses the point that we're here, talking about the best future for American, and what it should suggest to those who are looking on is that, here was a man that was deeply committed to the Clintons but there was something about Obama that caused him to change his mind, and to cast his fate, so to speak, with Obama. That should create pause for those who consider Clinton."

I'm very glad to have Bill Richardson on our side and to have James Carville on the dark side.

Carville cannot help himself. They are angry because
they have thrown everything at Obama and it has not worked.
They don't know whatelse to do with him. Their frustrations are
beginning to show.

Believe it or not, James Carville once appeared on the original Star Trek series! Click the link to see how handsome JC is without his glasses!

Bill Richardson represents the absolute worst of the Democratic party. The disloyalty he has displayed is completely unforgivable. It's up there with Lieberman's daily antics (he should cross the aisle, already). Bill Richardson would be an absolute zero if it weren't for the Clinton's. And that's where he's heading back to. Carville is who he is. He's entertaining on t.v. But he's also right. It's a complete betrayal. Not just because Richardson was expected to be a supporter in the traditional sense, but because he owes his entire political career to the Clinton's. He obviously cannot be trusted. Why Obama would agree to accept his endorsement is beyond me. The constant ringing in the ears of Jill and Joe Public is Richardson's disloyalty, and that Obama probably paid a handsome fee for it. The convention just became a war between the DLC and the Kennedy Mafia. Nobody wins.

Please. The Clinton's are owed something?

The list of out-and-out crap which is designed to somehow argue that the person with less votes should nevertheless still win is as long as my arm.

Please. HRC lost. It was over after Wisconsin. Sorry. She ran an inept campaign. Sorry. Blaming everything that moves is sad.

Richardson did his duty to the country by performing well in his appointments. Bill is not his employer, we the people - the taxpayers - are the employers of all Government officials. Richardson owes nothing to the Clintons. The Clintons need to get off the political stage. Their time has long since passed and the country is sick to death of their drama and divisiveness.

Wow. Bill Richardson would be a zero without the Clintons?

No wonder Hillary's negatives are the highest of anyone in the race and rising all the time. It's a reflection of the negativity of their supporters.

Tough shit. This isn't the 90s anymore and Obama isn't Bush I, Bob Dole, Newt, or Ken Starr. You Clintonites have had your time and you still have plenty of power and prestige. Show some dignity and humility and get out of the way, because you won't be leading anymore.

Right - Bill Richardson owes being the governor of New Mexico to the Clintons. Do you even know the first thing about New Mexico?

Also, if Richardson 'revealed' himslef to be a Judas, then why would his endorsement be so important to Clinton to begin with?! Was HRC too busy dodging sniper fire in Bosnia to have him vetted out so many years ago?

So give someone a job for which they are qualified and they have to endorse you for life? What kind of liberty is that?

Blow it out your shorts, James.
Richardson has every right in the world to change his mind-I certainly did...I sent Senator Clinton money and my best wishes for victory last year... But by this winter I saw that Senator Obama is actually the FAR better candidate and now I support HIM.
So I'm a Judas, I guess...

Bill and Hillary seem intent on destroying Obama and the Democratic Party if their scorched earth strategy is any indication. As it must be clear to them that Hillary has already lost the nomination, their new favorite for President appears to be McCain. She and Leiberman could turn the Senate Republican right now but that can wait as it won't do as much immediate damage as her promised fight right into the convention. After that disaster, the Republicans will be happy to annoint her as McCain's running mate. That's when the real Judas will emerge. Wonder if Carville and Matlin will work with Rove to elect the McCain -Clinton ticket.

Bill and Hillary appear to be doing their best to destroy Obama and the Democratic Party. It should be clear to everyone by now that their prefered candidate is McCain now that Hillary appears to have lost the Democratic nomination. The real Judas will emerge when she crosses over to be McCain's running mate. Between Hillary and Leiberman, they could turn the Senate Republican right now but won't until after Hillary shatters the Democratic Convention with the credentials fight that she promised Thursday. Wonder if Carville will stick with the Dems then or will he and Matlin work with Rove to elect McCain - Clinton?

Bill Richardson is very proud of his Hispanic heritage . Everyone should be proud of their heritage so that I applaud. However, part of the Hispanic culture is that "men have the power." In Mexico, mothers teach their daughters this to prepare them for what is often an abusive husband who abuses the wife to show "his power", the same thing with birth control, not allowing it to be discussed, much less used. It's about the "men have the power".

Bill Richardson wasn't about to serve under a woman president even if she walked on water because "men have the power". That's one of the ugly possibilities that nobody wants to say because we're on this "whites are racist and guilty of something" if they go against a minority running for office.

This is just too rediculous for words.

Richardson said why he endorsed OBAMA...he did not like what the Clinton Camp were doing to the Democratic Party and how they were doing it.

Simple really.

If Richardson doesen't like the Clintons, why did he beg President Clinton
to come watch the super with bowl him at his house? Clinton rearranged his
schedule just so he could accommodate his friend. He is a back stabber!
What the hell are the Clintons doing to the Democratic party? I am part of the
Democratic party, Richardson nor you speak for me! Can you
tell me why Obama never looks people in the eye when he speaks?

Obama will never be President.

Simple really

No, I just think Richardson came to realization that Obama will make a better President. Richardson understood that his country comes first, not loyalty to the Clinton's.

On the flipside, I think the Clinton's demanding loyalty from Richardson is quite possibly linked to their belief that Hispanics should be subservient to whites.

Carville has no credibility with me, so he may be telling the complete truth, but I will always discount the possiblity if he's the only source. So I still think he's a mad-dog just as putrid in his own way as Karl Rove.

Carville is brillant but this is as dumb as anything yet. How this helps HRC I fail to see. It's a hysterical rant totally immature. It only reinforces my support for Obama who has been respectful throughout this primary race and who only differs from HRC on the issues never getting personal. I expect much more from Carville than these ridulous statements. He says the Clinton campaign did not know he was going to make the anti Richardson statement. Why do I not find that in the least bit credible?

Hilary you show how weak you really are when your minions are unleashed on a respected leader just because he has publicly endorsed your rival.

Your people may claim you work harder than anyone else. That may well be.

But maybe iy you worked half as smart, you would be winning instead of whinning,

My family is suffering because of the amount we have to pay to keep our health care. It's a long story . I believed hillary when she said she cared. Now I know she will say and do anything to destroy Obama. She and her husband praise McCain. I don't know how we will survive a republican in the White House in 2009. That woman is mentally ill or she is just evil.

Carville's complaint about Richardson's poor communication with the Clintons loses credibility after the NYT's story on Bob Casey's Obama endorsement today reveals that Hillary Clinton wouldn't even take his courtesy-call before he announced. ("Mr. Casey called both Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton last night. He could not reach Mrs. Clinton, but she was made aware of his move, friends said.")

Vincie, I am also from NE PA. and Bob Casey has a lot more support here than Eddie Rendell. Rendell said the uneducated people of Pa would never vote for a Black man. Great coming from the Gov, huh. Bob Casey will bring a lot of the blue collar voters to Obama and end the Billary dynasty.

I'm a supporter of Senator Obama. I'm asking other supporters not to use foul language, and to tone down the rhetoric. Senator Obama has been respectful through this process, and his example is a good one.

No ones saying you cannot speak out in anger, but please watch the language, and make a political point.
