Mayor Bloomberg will stand side by side with Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama for the second time in four months Thursday. Bloomberg will introduce the Illinois senator at a speech on the economy at Cooper Union College.

They have spent time with each other in the past, but Bloomberg's latest appearance with Obama is fueling speculation about whether the mayor will officially endorse the presidential candidate.

I read so many comments about Obama being a paper tiger, but after listening to his economic proposal in what amounted to a thirty-five min speech, he sounds like he has a plan that is responsible, far-sighted, compassionate, and necessary. I do not know if the gentleman is going to win or not. But he has run a superlative campaign and of that he should be more than proud. Congratulations Barack Obama for raising the bar on one"s approach to actuating ambition. The people do not want a handout they may need a hand up though, off the floor of failed economic policies of today and years gone by.

Yo' Obama supporters, something funny is going on here.

Hillary ain't the problem.

Gore is.

Al Gore's Wall Street friends--and their media outlets--are suddenly discovering the multiplicity of Chicago Obama scandals.

How convenient.

And, just as Fat Albert himself is actively soliciting super-delegates--in the name of avoiding a convention deadlock with himself, Al Gore, the proposed compromise nominee.

Joe Klein already is propagandizing for Gore.

As did Ken Starr a decade ago.

I like the idea of an endorsement, but I do not like the idea of these two on a ticket together.
There is something off about it, It just doesn't ring true.
While I think Bloomberg is a decent man, having a billionaire on your ticket in these times will leave a sour taste in the mouth of many working class people.
Sen. Obama already knows that it would serve him well to further connect with white working class voters.
So in that sense, this does not seem to be an ideal pairing. I think Sen.Obama should be careful about the perceptions it could create.
John McCain can and will be painted as a lightweight on every issue other than War, which actually is an accurate depiction of him. So why give him any more help?

Come election time, the people's personal finances will be more fu**ed than ever. Its not smart to create an impression that Democrats are big money people when it isnt the case,
It is also not smart to play the losing hand in the fake class warfare game that always takes place during election time. Long story short, I dont know that Obama Bloomberg has the right touch.

I don't think that Barak will do the Clinton-like calculation: "With Richardson I get the Hispanics, but with Bloomberg I get the Jews etc."

I honestly believe he will do his best to acquire the most qualified person for the job to be filled. I'd love to see Edwards as Atty-General - he'd be busting some chops just like Bobby Kennedy. Bill Richardson would be my favorite for Sec. of State - the guy has a knack for bringing people together. As for Bloomberg he's get my vote for Sec. of the Treasury. I don't think he'd let Fed Bernanke blat his bullshit to the detriment of the country. So who could fill the Veep spot??? There's only one obvious candidate in my playbook: - Senator Chris Dodd. The institutional knowledge and temperment he would bring would provide easy access to the Congress AND would fit Barak's unflappable style.

I hope Edwards and Bloomberg endorse Barak so they can be part of the new administration.

Bloomberg is a phony. The guy supported Bush's illegal invasion into Iraq. This is more corporate media BS. Obama would be smart to not believe the moronic punditry.

Unlike Edwards or Gore, I think Bloomberg has the courage and intelligence to do this. I think his dislike for Hillary has been clear ever since rumors circulated about him exploring a third-party presidential bid if she won the nomination.

He's rightly very much respected, and could really be a great help if he endorsed Obama.

I'd love to see him in a Cabinet post.

Endorsement, yes please.

Running mate... no way. Obama needs someone with strong foreign policy experience and most likely a male W.A.S.P. from the west/mid-west to "balance" the ticket.

That is the political reality IMO.

Is it possible for Barack Obama to stand in front of enough American flags? What is that about?

Good question re flag protocol. I believe that six American flags are the standard, though four are acceptable, unless you're sitting at a desk where one is the minimum and two, one over each shoulder, is preferred. On a large stage with jumbotron screens on each side, the optimum amount is nine, though during the Insurance Commissioner's debate in Missouri in '94...

It's window dressing, okay? Not too subliminal but the American public hasn't demonstrated any great sense of insight.

What's the problem? The American flags offend you? If he did'nt have one, you would call him unpatriotic. If he has too many, you have a problem.

You know, I'm excited about the possibility of Bloomberg as Obama's VP. Not just to balance out some of the antisemetic rhetoric in Rev. Wright's speech. But because of the economy...

There is absolutely NO democrat out there more experienced on economic matters than Bloomberg.

Bloomberg is an economic guru, the CEO of the largest economc organization.

He worked his way up from nothing to be a one of the richest people in the world, with over 20 billion dollars, all by understanding the economy and making smart investments.

He turned around New York after it was in a record debt after 9/11 and Giuliani. And now New York City has a surplus and tons of job creation.

Plus he's very green. He pushed New York to all Hybrid cabs and wound up saving money in the process!!

And he draws in the same support from independents that Obama does.

I think with the economic problems we have, Obama-Bloomberg would be a dream ticket and the perfect way to address the "experience" issue that Obama.

Bloomberg has a record turning record defecits into surpluses even during bad economic times and New York City.

And that's exactly what we need to do at the national level.

by Rep. Ron Paul, MD
In the House of Representatives, September 10, 2002
Mr. Speaker, I rise to introduce legislation to restore financial stability to America's economy by abolishing the Federal Reserve. I also ask unanimous consent to insert the attached article by Lew Rockwell, president of the Ludwig Von Mises Institute, which explains the benefits of abolishing the Fed and restoring the gold standard, into the record.
Since the creation of the Federal Reserve, middle and working-class Americans have been victimized by a boom-and-bust monetary policy. In addition, most Americans have suffered a steadily eroding purchasing power because of the Federal Reserve's inflationary policies. This represents a real, if hidden, tax imposed on the American people.
From the Great Depression, to the stagflation of the seventies, to the burst of the dotcom bubble last year, every economic downturn suffered by the country over the last 80 years can be traced to Federal Reserve policy. The Fed has followed a consistent policy of flooding the economy with easy money, leading to a misallocation of resources and an artificial "boom" followed by a recession or depression when the Fed-created bubble bursts.
there is too much to post,to read the rest go to http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul53.html. .

The only thing an Obama/Bloomberg ticket would do is rile the anger of the left and create votes for Ralph Nader or the Green Party Candidate. Bloomberg supported George Bush actively in 2004 and that alone should should disqualify him from any Democratic ticket from now until perpetuity, especially considering how destructive the Bush presidency and neoconservative policies have been for New York City, let alone the country and the world. With all of the great potential VP Candidates out there, why pick someone who would drive away or turn off many of your base voters? If he really wanted to excite the field, he should ask Gore to be his VP -- someone who is qualified, isn't hungry for the Presidency anymore, and would unify the party.

Gore and Bloomberg, neither will be a VP pick. Gore has been there and done that, and Bloomberg on the ticket will do nothing to help Obama. Obama's VP should be Richardson because of his Hispanic ties and his vast experience, or Sebelius or Napolitano because of their gender and executive experience.

Why would Gore want to be VP? I can't imagine it. Been there done that. I see no indication that Gore is not happy with his life as is. He was not a natural politician even when he was a politician, and there are a lot of people who aren't crazy about him. (That's relative of course--next to Hillary, he's rather appealing). But Gore does have a bit of the stink of a loser about him to many of the cross-over voters that Obama will be seeking--a reminder of times when Democrats won or lost elections by three votes in Florida. Not that I think Bloomberg would be a good choice either. I would be okay with it, but I don't think the VP needs to be a former Democrat, Republican, now independant. Reach across party lines for competant administrators, not for VP. My own choice for VP is Gov. Brian Schweitzer of Montana. (It would be former Gov. Mark Warner of Virginia except that he's about to win a senate seat here and frankly that's worth a good bit more than a VP slot). But we'll see won't we.

It would be a different Gore VP. He's not hungry for the Presidency and is free to concentrate just on making the nation and a world a better place. What a platform to continue the work he is already doing.

Climate Change needs major action by the next President, who will almost certainly be focused on Iraq, the Economy and if we are lucky, health care. Even if he isn't VP, he should designate Gore as Climate Change Tzar, and turn the EPA director in to a full fledged cabinet position as Secretary of the Environment.

I think you are right in that I don't think Gore is interested in electoral politics anymore either -- which is our loss.

Obama's strategy is to go after as many people as he can who would normally be connected, and expected to support Hillary. Even just a photo op is enough for him.
