Wow, this is a very sweet story. It's really no different than my Great Grandmother from Norway having seen me become a success in the U.S. only 2 generations after having come here. Again, Wow. Nice.

The United Kingdom has an Al Jazeera tv station, but will not permit FOX. The United Kingdom states that Fox is too unbalanced. I wish that we had a choice to see Al Jazeera rather than some of our tv stations.

I've known a Moroccan and a Kenyan, and they get Al Jazeera in Birmingham, Alabama. Maybe it is available on satellite systems. It would be enlightening.

Canada gets Al Jazeera too. We've become the country that isn't allowed to get certain news. Just like we hear of other oppressed, communist countries or dictatorships.

Saddie, I don't know if this is partially bacause I am sleep deprived (ouch! I'm Using a Hillary line!) but to read, "The United Kingdom has an Al Jazeera tv station, but will not permit FOX. The United Kingdom states that Fox is too unbalanced" has really made my night. How true! Just wish I could stop laughing at the absurdity that is fox news!!

glad to see Al Jazeera is endorsing Obama too! Maybe Obama will let everyone buy a hut like his grandmother's, you know all those that are loosing their homes. How much money did the Obama's make last year? Yet his grandmother lives in a hut.. interesting.. he takes care of himself only.. the video says it all.

Perhaps if you understood East African culture and climate, you would understand that living in a hut isn't exactly a bad thing and not everyone in the world wants to live like us Westerners and require indoor plumbing and hundreds of kilowatt hours of electricity to air-condition their homes, etc. Huts are quite comfortable to live in - I've spent summers in East Africa in huts. They maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the day and night.
There is also a culture of modesty among the wiser elders - they don't go for ostentatious displays of wealth but are rather proud of their traditions and culture and wish to continue to live the way their fathers and mothers lived, and their fathers and mothers before those lived. Simple lives. Unlike us here, the people there don't have lots of possessions, hence a hut suffices. And note what his grandmother DID ask Obama to give money for - _A SCHOOL_!! Yes, EDUCATION is what is important there as it offers future generations a chance to better themselves.
So before you past judgment, take time to think, learn and appreciate other people's culture and way of life.

Thank you so much for this post. Some of the best, most content, more comfortable days of my life were spent living in such modest accommodations, absent the clutter and mass of unnecessary "stuff" that people here unfortunately hoard and stockpile to feel satisfied and successful. There is a lot to be said about the quality of life lived simply, when the truest and most basic values are more important than material accumulation.

There isn't a day that passes, that I don't lament having abandoning what I found to be genuine contentment and heart's fulfillment, to return to this so-called "paradise" of Western comforts that feels more and more like a prison each day.

People here really don't get it, do they?

You idiot. EVERYONE in Kenya lives in huts! Why don't you do a little bit of traveling or at least research before your mouth overloads your brain. By the way, how many of YOUR relatives do YOU financially support?

Your remark is off target and tasteless. This is a different culture - an idea you apparently lack the intelligence to grasp. Your comments do not support your name at all, truthinamerica!

Why isn't Al Jazeerha available in the USA? From what I've seen on u tube here, and while visiting the ME, it is quite informative, broad and professional. Not what I see in the US MSM.

I totally agree with you. Al Jazeerha is definitely a heck of a lot more objective and honest then the censored material that is fed as filtered and tweaked news in the U.S. CNN is a joke compared to Al Jazeerha International -it rivals both BBC and CBC in its candor and ability to show things the way the are from an international perspective. I think because of this credibility factor - the US rather not deal with things on an honest world perspective - too offensive without having it put through an Amercian bias filter.

That's exactly the reason you don't see it in the US. Who wants informative, broad and professional news reporting?

But you're right - Al Jazeera puts many of our news networks to shame. Far better in-depth reporting.

I'm voting for Obama, but Al Jazeera ("The Jackal") sucks. All the guys cream their pants whenever Bin Laden sends them another videotape. The people at The Jackal are the equivalent of the Weather Underground in the 60s - very immature politically.

I wish someone would ask her if she considers her grandson Barack, to be a Christian or a Muslim.

I bet Fox's answer to Little Orphan Annie, Sean Hannity and his little beady eyes, will be bouncing off the wall over this story. He will have a field day titillating his audience over this non story. Obama's grandmother, who is black and non-Christian, interviewed by a Arabic reporter on the Al Jezeera network. And Fox viewers know that Al Jezeera and Arab reporters are anti American. He will look accusingly at the television camera and demand to know why Obama let his black, non-Christian grandmother be interviewed by Al Jezeera. If he was more American and wore a flag in the lapel of his suit coat, this would never had happen.

Obama's grandmother is a nice lady, in the Kenyan culture she is just known as his grandmother. She is also grandmother to Obama's sister, Auma, who lives in Kenya too. In Kenya, they do not bother nitpicking about "step" and "half" relatives, family is family. Grandma Sarah is also a Christian and is dismayed by the lies that are being spread about her grandson.

Actually, Grandma Sarah is Muslim as is the majority of Kenyans. But that has nothing to do with Barack Obama, who is a devout Christian.

Barack Obama is a citizen of the world and that is why he would be an ideal leader in this globalized economy. He has been to the richest places and the poorest places in the workd and this gives him a better insight into the living conditions of people in the world

Don't we elect a president to watch out for the interests of the U.S.--not the world. Obama is a citizen of the U.S. the last time I checked. Either that or he has the world's largest birth certificate record and passport in history.

Ever hear of globalization? It's sort of a big deal. Integration of the world requires someone who can think outside the American bubble. Perhaps we could have avoided such blunders like the Iraq War.
