Intense fighting between Iraqi Shiite militiamen and US And Iraqi forces has been raging in Iraq over the past three days. The fighting threatens to end a Mahdi Army cease-fire that is credited for many security gains in Iraq. Below are a couple reports on the violence and discontent throughout the country:

AP: Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki Says He'll Pursue Fight To "The End"

Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is promising to pursue his fight against Shiite militias in Basra to "the end."

Al-Maliki made his pledge to Basra area tribal leaders Thursday as military operations against the militias continued for a fourth day despite stiff resistance.

AP: Green Zone Hit For Fourth Day This Week:

Shiite militants are hammering the U.S.-protected Green Zone with rockets and mortars for the fourth day this week.

Thick, black smoke is billowing from inside the heavily fortified home to the U.S. Embassy and Iraqi government.

AP: Tens Of Thousands Of Shiites Protest:

Tens of thousands of Shiites took to Baghdad's streets to protest the government crackdown on militias in Basra as heavy fighting between Iraqi security forces and gunmen erupted for a third day in the southern oil port and the capital.

Iraqi officials reported 17 more people killed in overnight clashes in Baghdad's main Shiite district of Sadr City and raised the number of deaths from fighting in the southern city of Hillah to at least 60.

Mounting anger focused on Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, a Shiite who is personally overseeing an operation against Shiite militias dominated by followers of radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr amid a violent power struggle in Basra, Iraq's southern oil hub near the Iranian border.

I wonder why McInsane isn't going to Iraq now, and without any escort...
Sheer hypocrisy? You bet...

But the surge is working. This story is obviously untrue: Grand daddy McLoser was just there and the flowers were blooming and the sun was out and the heavens opened. The turr-urr-ishts are on the run. Democracy is on the march. Just watch CNN and Fox - they'll tell you.

Yeah...This story can't be true, because I haven't seen it on TV.

They would tell us if things were bad over there.

Wouldn't they?

A few days of an uprising doesn't negate all the progress of the surge. If this goes on then our armed forces will adjust and get back on track. Liberals sit around and wait for any news to "jump on" that will make Bush look bad. The surge is working.

What progress of the surge? 8 million displaced, 12 foot walls, checkpoints and, wow, violence is down. And can rear its ugly head ANYTIME it wants.

There is no military solution for fighting small cells of religious extremists...

See? NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS the surge is always working. NOTHING can possibly happen, even the assassination of Malliki, can ever possibly mean that the surge is (and was from the beginning) a failure.

For shit's sake. The reduction in violence in Iraq (overall) started BEFORE the "surge" and was a direct result of ethnic cleansing. Since most Sunnis were kicked out of Shiite areas (or killed) and most Shiites were kicked out of Sunni areas (or killed), OF COURSE the violence would decrease! There was no longer an easy set of targets for the bulk of the violence.

Now we are seeing an uptick in the intra-community violence as one strongman attempts to gain the upper hand over another strongman in their ethnically cleansed areas. We are also seeing the attempt of an American puppet (Malliki) trying to take out his most dangerous direct rival (Sadr).

The surge is not doing anything at all and never could do anything at all except break the US military.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Sorry Mikey...some progressives understand lies...some also are waiting for some honest candid truths..and if that means "good" news, then it would be taken as that. So far I think they are still waiting. Unless you missed it...this war was built on a lie, and do you think for a minute it isn't being carried on a lie? The surge worked for awhile because al Sadr voluntarily stopped his own army for awhile.
