Meet six students from diverse backgrounds who have come together to share their stories daily on the blog: Dream Activist, The Dream Advocate, FASH, IAmAShadow, Newsie and Sayuri Jane.

You know what happens when in America we dont practice prevention in the short run we pay more in the long run. To deny these children college is just going to make them a bigger burden on society in the long run be it ending up behind bars or on welfare. We can pay little now or a lot later its tup to us.

Say no to the Dream Act. This act would entitle illegal aliens to an in-state tuition rate. That is a seriously hefty discount. If an American citizen attends a university in a state other than the one he/she is a resident, the tuition doubles or triples and there are no exceptions and no act to assist in additional tuition. A noncitizen would be getting a better deal than a U.S. citizen.

International students who go through the process to come to the United States legally pay more in tuition and fees to attend American universities and colleges. It would be unfair to them as well.

Some states California, Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, and Washington already have their own versions of the Dream Act and do allow illegals to attend state universities at in-state tuition rates.

I taught public school for 25 years in Oregon where there is lots of agriculture. Mexicans, who are here illegally, have replaced migrant workers of the past and they stay here. They are a huge stress on the education system. Many of our schools are bilingual now and they are provided special services. That is great, but it is at a huge cost to the taxpayer and already strapped districts. It's true that it is not the "fault" of the kids, but there has to be some ways to deal with all this more fairly. It is complicated. I'm sorry that all the candidates supported the Dream Act. I think it was one of those political bandwagons and everyone jumped on. The issue is way more complex.

You know what the sad thing about this is, most of you are college kids milking daddy's money to go to college however you know that one of 3 kids on your classes thats "working" there way through college or 4 veterans that had worked to be able to attend college so what is the US Government doing to help them out? How about single mothers (femimist were are you)?

What happen to giving a hand to US Citizens? Yes that means you silly?

Liberal, Conservative you are still a Citizen of your state and this Nation. Do you see this is a ploy for politicians to just gain more votes while pulling the wool over your eyes. But its OK because Wash DC has the magic money tree errrrrr you and me and you dad you mom you brother, you co worker to pay for all of this.

Oh and if I'm a intentional student, I'm pissed!

I can't support this ACT because it gives state rights to those who aren't a resident of the state. Or am I missing something? :/

My daughter and I live in Minnesota, we are looking at colleges across the nation now, so, why should MN give these kids a break over those born and raised from, let's say, Mississippi?

Just asking . . .

sometimes we pay for the poor decisions of our parents.
With the provided examples, here is a chance for foreign nationals with the 'benefit' of our educational system, to return to their country, and work for the rest of their less fortunate brothers and sisters....not the least important is explaining that in the USA, the people speak english and if they want to come to the US, they had better learn english.
We have enough on our plate right now.....stop with the corporate inspired hand wringing.

Mexico's still trying to move in with us. Just say 'no', and let's REALLY help Mexico to stand up in the world by assisting them in building their own universities. No more immigration scammery, really tend the border, and really work immigration treaties, not only with Mexico, but with other countries too, so that there's no future room for misunderestimastandimicationerer on the issue. As long as Mexico et. al. can successfully vend their disenfranchiseminationemationer, and people in the United States fall for the bleeding heart/wounded bird routine, well, guess what, the 'show' just got approved for another season. Moving to the United States en masse to drop kids and attempt to partake of benefits which grow less beneficial and more dubious by the year thanks to overloading, well, it's a bad trend, I think.
It also undermines if not prevents domestic resource development as mentioned above. They have smart people, they've got money, ergo, they can start laying foundations for school buildings and developing native language internet resources to promote general education and literacy sans 'help' or other interference from us. There's poor kids in america too, that've never seen the inside of a college classroom, better to try and help them and direct neighbor/partner nations to do likewise for their own citizens, I think.

Sorry, I'm not particularly concerned giving undocumented individuals a free pass when there are means by which they may become documented. Maybe they can get to the rear of the line and use the process of becoming documented like so many do. I'm more concerned with my health care costs which are soaring due in part to, you guessed it, undocumented individuals using health care services at low or no cost and those cost being passed on to me and other hard working Americans.

Reminds me of the great Langston Hughes poem...

What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun,
or does it fester like a sore, and then run.

I don't want to butcher the rest of it, because I can't recall it exactly. But, how appropriate..

Every college discount or slot that goes to an illegal alien is one that won't go to a U.S. citizen. The bill the HuffPost is pushing would let illegal aliens take college discounts from U.S. citizens, as illustrated here:

Let me suggest an alternative: force those countries to give educations to their own citizens. Meanwhile, if you want the U.S. government to start giving things away, concentrate on our own needy citizens first.

Senator Obama has already said SEVERAL TIMES at SEVERAL of his rallies that he supports the DREAM ACT. And wants it to pass. He believes that all kids that have grown up here in the USA should be able to go to college. As far as them going back to Mexico that is ridiculous - many of them have never even been to Mexico and don't even speak Spanish, they grew up here as Americans!

You're absolutely right! I am a 5th and 6th grade teacher in central Phoenix. Many of my most dedicated, talented, and creative (not to mention-bilingual!) students are undocumented. They've lived in the USA since they were babies, or small toddlers, and have no recollection of living in Mexico. This is their home and the country that has educated them since kindergarten. Why would we pay to educated them for 13 years and then deny them a higher education? These kids are here illegally through no fault of their own.

Last summer I was fortunate to get an opportunity to take a photo with Barack in a small setting, I mentioned to him how important it is that these students are offered an opportunity to attend college and his answer was, "absolutely". Obama understands that ALL kids are OUR kids! That's one of the reasons that I support Barack for POTUS.

go back where? to a country they know nothing about? for the majority of their lives, these kids have only known this country as their home. Despite their cultural, language, and legal handicaps, many of them, despite the odds, pursued their schooling and excelled. These are the immigrants we should be embracing through the Dream Act. Lets give them the legitimacy to contribute to our society.

No doubt they have relatives in Mexico. It is unfortunate for them, but the problem should not be placed solely on the shoulders of the tax payers.
