The Navy lawyer for Osama bin Laden's driver has accused senior Pentagon officials of orchestrating war crimes prosecutions of detainees held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to influence the outcome of the 2008 presidential campaign.

In a brief filed Thursday, Navy Lt. Cmdr. Brian Mizer describes a Sept. 29, 2006, meeting at the Pentagon in which Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England, a veteran White House appointee, asked lawyers to consider Sept. 11, 2001, prosecutions in light of the campaign.

How can I get on a jury? Will the jurors be military personnel? Officers? People who seek promotions and cozy retirements? Oh, I need not apply, I want justice.

What an evil cynical way to try to influence the election, and planned in 2006? That's despicable. Don't these idiot senior Pentagon officials realize they're likely to be out of a job in 2009 if all these lawsuits against the DoD and the Pentagon go forward? Just another illegal White House move to try to keep their hand in the election.

how on earth do they think any of this is going to help the gop? its like an advertisement on what NOT to do. the torture tales alone.... jesus christ these people are insane. they really think we are going to believe the trials at face value? all they are going to do is remind the average voters how they utterly disregard all that is good and decent.

of course the nutty 20% will be excited, but they already HAVE those votes.

There's a surprise- the Bush administration putting what's best for itself ahead of what's best for the country...

Is this supposed to help McCain get elected and continue the failed Bush policies?, to show how America is "fair and balanced" in treatment of the prisoners related to 9/11. The world has our number we needn't try and give them a snow job, they seam to be smarter than we are.
