Peggy Noonan: At This Point You Either Understand The Problem With Hillary Or You Don't

I think we've reached a signal point in the campaign. This is the point where, with Hillary Clinton, either you get it or you don't. There's no dodging now. You either understand the problem with her candidacy, or you don't. You either understand who she is, or not. And if you don't, after 16 years of watching Clintonian dramas, you probably never will.

That's what the Bosnia story was about. Her fictions about dodging bullets on the tarmac -- and we have to hope they were lies, because if they weren't, if she thought what she was saying was true, we are in worse trouble than we thought -- either confirmed what you already knew (she lies as a matter of strategy, or, as William Safire said in 1996, by nature) or revealed in an unforgettable way (videotape! Smiling girl in pigtails offering flowers!) what you feared (that she lies more than is humanly usual, even politically usual).

She supports people who have said far more wrong things with far more consequence than Hillary's dopey Bosnia comments.

Apparently comments about Iraq and the Sunni-Shiite conflict by the likes of Bush, Cheney, and J. Sydney are a-ok by her. Regardless of the fact that they consistently turn out to be wrong. And the number of people who lose their lives because of them.

I don't like Peggy's politics, but her analysis of the Hillary campaign has been spot on several times.

She's the one who noted moths back that authentic women leaders never played the gender victim card - Margaret Thatcher, Golda Mier, Angela Merkel, Indira Ghandi.

She's also framed the Hillary's dishonestly well: Hillary is either a calculated liar or natural born liar, but she lies constantly.

And finally, she has insightfully underscored the fact that if a Clinton loyalist can dismss the Bosnia lie, they are hooked. Nothing will change them. I suspect that anyone who is supporting Hillary now as a presidential candidate shares her characteristic lack of integrity and sees vested benefit in the Clintons' return to power. The Clintons and their supporters are placing narrow personal gain over the good of the nation.

There's been some talk lately about Obama asking Clinton to be his VP. There's also been talk in the past (usually attributed to red-neck racists) that if Obama is President, he will be assassinated. I generally see Noonan as the stereotypical republican talking head with the perfectly coiffured hair and tastefully understated outfit, spewing snide remarks with the indignant pomposity that Republicans seem to have trademarked. But in this case she has gone astray and actually stated the obvious based on facts rather than the usual conjecture.

Hillary is and has always been a person who will say and do anything that is necessary to accomplish her objectives which, if they coincide with the best interests of the country, is a mere coincidence.
