Hillary Clinton

Newsweek:

Some Democrats terrified that their bloody primary campaign will doom them in November are floating a consolation prize for Hillary Clinton: governor of New York.

The travails of New York Gov. David Paterson have opened up a new potential career path for Clinton, according to well-informed Democratic Party insiders who refused to allow their names to be used when discussing contingencies. They want her to consider the option if she concludes after the April 22 Pennsylvania primary that she cannot overtake Barack Obama for the party's presidential nomination. Hillary Clinton, while fully committed to continuing her presidential campaign, was said to be open to discussing the idea, while Bill Clinton rejected it out of hand.

Not only shouldnt she get governor, she should lose her seat in the NY senate.

Punish her for harming the party with her ugly cheating racist campaign.

Good riddance

There has been a tendency for many US senators to return and become governors. There was Pete Wilson in CA, and NJ's governor came from the US senate. At one time, you went from governor to senator, but the trend is much more common now. Oh, Lawton Chiles in FL comes also to mind, but there are many more. Richardson was in the US H of R and the Clinton Cabinet.

Considering that the current governor is self-exposing adulterous relationships and his wife as well, and replacing the infamous Elliott Spitzer - and Nelson Rockefeller who after governorship and US veep, had to be transported post mortem from his mistress' apartment. Ford's veep died in flagrante delicto.

I believe that Hill and Bill Clinton are eminently qualified to govern New York State.

I know. NY doesn't have any big cities either. No major financial institutions, universities, cultural centers etc. Very similar.

She doesn't need to take the Governor's Mansion because she's going to win the nomination for President, even though Obama will win the popular vote and have the delegate lead going to the convention.

So...here we go again, with the candidate winning the popular vote and having the most delegate support losing? Why is there always some mechanism that gives a middle finger to the will of the people? The Electoral College , "Superdelegates, it's always something!" I hereby declare myself a MegaDeluxeSecretOverlorDelegate. After the Superdelegates vote, I reserve the power to overrule it.

She's not sexually promiscuous enough to qualify as a NY Governor. Billy Jeff on the other hand...

This race with its weird mind boggling rules that almost prevent a winner,is mid way- with Obama with a lead of about 130 delegates. There are tens of millions of voters yet to vote and a few million that voted (that Obama is not willing to recognize in FL and MI- that Hillary won)- I find it preposterous that the far left of our party would want Hillary's demise.
I am in that 28% of Hillary voters (translates to over 3 Million voters) that will either stay home or cross over to McCain if Obama is the nominee. I was disappointed that Obama today in PA praised Bush Senior, Ronald Reagen and said NOT a word on the the most successful 2 term Democratic President in a generation and beyond- President Bill Clinton.
If Obama is our nominee- he has some major reaching out to many passionate Democrats such as me who are not from the fringe left of the party ( like Arianna, Pelosi, Dean) but really came into the party because of Bill Clinton. Clinton is the Reagen of the Dem party- if Obama does not celebrate that- he will not get my vote. BTW, McCain gets more democrats and Hillary more Republicans than Obama does

I am as sick of Hillary as anyone else, but we should let the voters in the remaining states have their say. Florida and Michigan were off the table before the race started and all those seeking the nomination agreed to those rules, therefore they are not/should not be in play.

The main thing for both candidates is to promote their own positives and save the negative stuff for McCain. We cant afford 4 more years of the current BS.

Oh, wow, can we slow down for a minute? This article assumes that there's going to be a gubernatorial election any second now because David Paterson's not going to be able to finish his term. That is a HUGE leap of faith. That being said, a Clinton-Giuliani matchup would be very interesting because the primary issue there will be which of the two candidates the voters are less sick and tired of, Mr. 9/11 or Ms. 3 AM.

Well hmm..Ok.Let her be govenor of NY,at least then I can just move out of the state,it's much harder to leave the country. It will give me time to try and save my pennies,so when she does ultimately become president ..I will be able to afford to move.

That finger pointing shtick is a bad habit Hillary has apparently picked up from Bill, and it's costing her votes every day. Didn't her parents ever tell her it's rude to point?

it's also rude to lie. That finger doesn't cost her votes every day. Rude is also running other people down. Didn't your parents ever tell her it's rude to point.

Why would she want to be a governor (especially with the tough crowd in Albany) rather than be a Senator from New York?
____________________________________________________________________

That one's easy. The governorship of a huge state like NY is a better doorway to the presidency than the Senate. She runs for governor this year and wins, appoints Bill as her replacement in the Senate, then (if Obama loses to McCain) she's poised to run again in 2012.

But it's just a fantasy scenario. It could be a powerful motive, but it ain't gonna happen.

Starboymikey -- but, but, she can't be gov of NY! Bill "rejected it out of hand." And...he's in charge, isn't he?

The next election for Governor is in 2010. Paterson is going to complete Spitzers term.

Affairs or not, Paterson comes off as extemely likeable on TV - much more so than his two predecessors.
Unless he turns out to be a dud, NY Dems would be foolish to turn him out.

Because with her nastiness so far, she has alienated so many Senators, the Senate is going to be a cold place for her when she returns
