Clinton Is Staying In

Washington Post:

In her most definitive comments to date on the subject, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton sought Saturday to put to rest any notion that she will drop out of the presidential race, pledging in an interview to not only compete in all the remaining primaries but also continue until there is a resolution of the disqualified results in Florida and Michigan.

A day after Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean urged the candidates to end the race by July 1, Clinton defied that call by declaring that she will take her campaign all the way to the Aug. 25-28 convention if necessary, potentially setting up the prolonged and divisive contest that party leaders are increasingly anxious to avoid...

...Her remarks come as Clinton faces a mounting drumbeat, driven by the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and his backers, for her to bow out and avert a party crisis. Obama's supporters argue that he is too far ahead in pledged delegates for Clinton to catch up; Clinton counters by saying that neither of them has secured the 2,024 delegates needed for the nomination.

Oh lovely Scarlet! She will not give up until everything is ablaze! Just curious: Is she going to haunt the White House when Obama moves in?

Please read your post and ask yourself if you and your candidate are uniters? Do you generally want to jump on board with people who say stuff like this? If you expect everyone to join by treating them badly and insulting them you will be sadly mistaken.

Here we go again. She's using the "underdog care" and the "woman" card AGAIN. This is really getting old. Actually - she has been using the "Liar" care more than any other card.

What we've all learned is that the media of all kinds, including our beloved Huffpo, distort the crap out of all coverage, and make a mockery of democracy by their daily inflaming of unintended symbolic quasi-gaffes. The fact that we're even TALKING about the comments of subordinates, pastors and relatives shows how little the substance matters. This is capitalism at its very, very worst--Murdockism, indulged in by the 'clever' candidates and their brainy staffs.

The only cure is to call it the moral failure that it is when charges are repeated when they've been answered. It's not fair combat, it's immoral abuse of the language of the people. It's political pornography, and it's more wicked than anything shown done to little boys and girls.

I am with Senator Obama on this. Hillary can stay in the race as long as she wants. Its her right to do so. Obama is smart to take that position because the longer Hillary stays the more unelectable she becomes with her lies and her kitchen sink attacks. Obama probably thinks that by letting her stay he can see what else is up her sleeve and get some practice dealing with the attack machine for his run in November. What the superdelegates need to do now is to rally around Obama and give him the support he needs in reaching the 2025 delegates' votes. Then if Hillary wants to stay all the way till the convention then thats her call. She just won't be nominated and all of her ugliness will come through especially if she begins to support McCain. Many democrats will be turned off. The country will be turned off. They will flock to Obama for support. So let Hillary stay and act like a spoiled brat who throws a tantrum at every turn. Its only gonna help Obama.

I agree Obama supporters which I am one should lay off the get out of the race argument. Hillary has every right to stay in the race until after the primaries are over. This is just polarizing the debate and is reverse psychology for the Hillary camp. The more people that say she should leave the more determined she is to stay in the race.

Totally agree with you. If she is forced to leave too soon, then she and her supporters will be screaming that they "could" of won. The longer she stays in, the more her lies come out, the more she, Bill and her surrogates turn people away from them. Her tax returns are coming, and so is the Peter Paul trial where she's being sued for fraud. And her campaign is so mismanaged that she's not even paying the small business vendors in Ohio who depend on payment to feed their families. She's her own worst enemy, and the longer she stays in, the more she hurts her own credibility and Clinton legacy, but that's her choice. Solet it play out untl the last primary. After the last primary, the superdelegates should step in and make a choice, no reason to go to the Convention.

And Obama lied on 01-22-06 on Meet the Press about not running for President in 2008,
his awareness of Wright's racist agenda, about voting rights if you look at his record in
Chicago. Which version and monetary value on Rezko did you like?

Most politicians say what is expedient. Often. If we want honorable people in office all we have to do is look at Jimmy Carter. He was honorable and I'd stack him against any President on issues of honor and integrity. His Presidency failed. LBJ, who's personal ethics I'd just as soon not review, lead the country on civil rights legislation that directly changes how we live today.

This more than most is a critical election. Bush created the disaster but you can pretty much
bet the next President will be get the blame.

How about we take a more pragmatic, less emotional approach to this and
admit that they all lie, embellish, put the best face on things. Let's get on with the
serious business of who's the most competent to lead us at this time. Their records
will be an indicator of the most competent at this dangerous, serious juncture. Which
candidate can repair a broken federal government, help regain our standing in the world,
real answers about the economy? Once you find them, work for them, tout their accomplishments, show the world how great they are. If you can't support your candidate
without trashing the competition, re-think your candidate.

Despite his insurmountable lead, there is one reason that Barack Obama may yet lose the nomination to Hillary Clinton.

And that reason may be why Hillary Clinton has vowed to remain in the race, a decision that seems to defy common sense and the Democratic party’s interests in the current climate.

If the Bush administration decides to attack Iran in the next few months, then Hillary Clinton will immediately and decidedly win the Democratic nomination. All of her declarations of 3 AM phone calls and foreign policy experienceâ€”regardless of truthfulness—will pay off immediately.

The possibility of an attack on Iran provides one plausible explanation for the uncommitted superdelegates have not shut this destructive race down already by publicly backing Obama. There is still a real possibility that Hillary Clinton will be the nominee and that we will be at war with Iran, God help us. The superdelegates are whistling past the graveyard.

There is nothing Barack Obama’s campaign can do to mitigate this risk. If the United States attacks Iran before the convention, Clinton and McCain message of fear will overwhelm and destroy Obama’s message of hope and change. War is ugly, an eraser of hope.

I can only hope that we do not attack Iran.

I do not agree at all. It will just show that Hillary enabled Bush with her Iran vote and propagate another war.

If we attacked Iran, I would want Obama as our President even more. In a time of crisis, I don't want a pathological liar that doesn't even read national intelligence reports and has public emotional meltdowns. She lied about her foreign policy experience and has none. Obama is intelligent, calm and collected -- and he brings in the right people with the right expertise to make intelligent decisions in the best interests of our country.

I also don't think that we will attack Iran in the next few months, there would be protests in the streets-- we aren't the same blindly trusting people that we were when the Iraq war started.

I cannot imagine why an attack on Iran would tilt voters toward Senator Clinton. If Democratic voters are mostly against the war in Iraq, why in the world would they want a war with Iran? All this would do is point up Senator Clinton's Kyl-Lieberman vote.

Republicans and right wing pundits want Hillary to be the nominee because they believe she'd be the easier to defeat. For right wing hate radio, she's the gift that keeps on giving, the gal they love to hate, the gal they foment about hour after hour after hour. She keeps their coffers full, and she'll bring out every last right winger (and then some) to vote. As a born again Democrat ( meaning I made an informed decision later in life after careful assessment of the two party's ideology), I'm pretty turned off by Hillary at this point. In the beginning, I was totally on the fence between her and Obama (once Edwards bowed out). The tipping point for me was when she endorsed McCain over Obama. As a Democrat, what she did was totally treasonous. Such a demonstration of disloyalty to the Democratic Party is completely unacceptable under these circumstances. She's coming across as a woman who will say and do anything to get elected, and if she can't be the nominee, then neither will her opponent. I'm still angry and dumfounded that she would do such a thing. I don't doubt she is fully capable of doing the job, but am starting to believe she lacks the character or temperament.

What is wrong in pointing out the wrong decisions that Hillary made in the senate???? Hillary did vote for the Iraq war. Without the approval of the congress, it would have been impossible or at least very very difficult for Bush to wage the war in Iraq. Thanks to Hillary, McCain and other senators that gave Bush a blank cheque for war, we have this mess. So yes, Hillary is responsible for the war along with other democratic and republican senators who voted for the war--including Biden, Dodd, and Edwards. But they have all dropped out of the presidential race.

Of course, if Obama agrees to run as VP under her that would make him experienced enough to be be president somehow.

It would be the GREATEST thing for the Voters & we, the people, IF the campaigns could give us MORE of their platforms and LESS about Personalities.

AND, let's leave it BETWEEN the 2 Democratic candidates - no building up the Republican in the General Election race at the EXPENSE of your Democratic Opponent. That is CROSSING the line!
And, shows NO class whatsoever.

Obama will just become a stronger and stronger candidate dealing with the Clintons... it is the voters who are getting tired of the fight.. and perhaps the attention needs to shift more to those trying to increase the democratic numbers in the House and Senate. Presdent Clinton today:

"Raise your hand if you know someone without health insurance." Probably just under 50% raised their hand. "This is the only western civilized world where you would get that answer. It's the only country where it would even be asked."

Bill is now explaining Hillary's healthcare plan and arguing why it is better than Barack's. "We need to cover everyone...The only way we can control costs is if we cover everyone."

"If you're tired of making excuses for not doing this and you want affordable quality healthcare I hope you'll support Hillary."

Mandated health care IS NOT universal health care !!! Under the Clinton's plan, I hope every middle class and poverty class American feels they can afford to have more deductions in their paychecks; be forced to purchase the health care plan the Clintons will negotiate behind closed doors; and be fined or their wages attached if they do not purchase their program.

This is insane...people who have health insurance want lower costs...and those that don't have it is because they can't afford it !!! To force...yes; FORCE and entire nation to purchase or else is NOT the way to go !!!

you are going to mandate healthcare for everyone and then fine those who cannot afford it without actually specifying what the threshold of subsidizing will be or what the fine will be or the conditions under which people will be fined. that to me seems like pandering to the insurance companies and not to the people. those who are poor and have to make the choice between food and healthcare will choose food over healthcare no matter what fines you put on them. putting fines on people who cannot afford healthcare will only keep them poor and keep them down. nice healthcare plan -- either you buy it or you pay money for not buying it. that should cover them all.

Arianna- there is NO deluge at all. The only ones calling on Clinton to quit are a couple of Senators who are Obama's surrogates and lap dogs- not top dogs as your previously said.
Hillary Clinton should prevail with the millions left to vote and with the millions whose votes in FL and MI are invalidated due to the obstinacy of Obama. This is tragic from the party that went all the way to the Supreme Court to ensure that every vote in FL was counted.

What did Obama do to stop MI and FL? Can you offer any substantiated information other than rhetoric? Both Hillary and Obama agreed to the rules before the primaries started. Hillary was sure everything would have been decided by the first super Tuesday. Harold Ickes was on the committee that disqualified FL and MI. The dates for the primaries were decided in ways that would favor Hillary. When she began to lose, she then wanted to call in the votes for FL and MI and started the whole disenfranchisement talk and wants to change rules midstream. You cannot do that once you have agreed to how these two states would be handled ahead of time by you and your people.

Finally, now that they want to count the votes and seat the delegates, the ways in which they are proposing to do so actually becomes unfair to many voters in terms of preventing them from voting if they voted republican in the primary because they were told that their democratic vote wouldn't count.

The only thing that Obama has proposed is that no matter what solution is offered, that it be consitutional and law abiding and ensures that all those who wants to vote and wants their voices heard will be able to get that opportunity.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:47 PM on 03/30/2008

Please- Obama just walked away and ran out the clock in MI before the legislature adjourned. If you take away his "caucus" victories where the barely legals came out to party and be counted, Obama has not won any major state with the exception of Illinois. If the Demos had a sensible winner takes all rule- as the Republicans do- this race would have been over on Feb 5th with Hillary Clinton as the clear winner.
I am almost in the 28 % (or 3.5 Million) Hillary voters that will either sit out or vote McCain in the general if Obama is the nominee. There is no chance in hell that Obama will win with 3.5 million voters boycotting him. There is a way that Obama can get us to back him- if he stops his arrogant and dis-repectful attitude and comments on the Clintons. Bill Clinton is the best 2 term president from either party in a generation. I am appalled that Obama yesterday praised Bush Sr and Ronald Reagen but conspicuously left out Bill Clinton
