The Bosnian girl who famously read a poem to Hillary Rodham Clinton during her 1996 visit to the war-torn country is shocked - and her countrymen infuriated - that the former first lady claimed to have dodged sniper fire that day.

Emina Bicakcic, now 20 and studying to become a doctor, told The Post she stood on the tarmac at the air base in Tuzla, greeted Clinton and even had time to share the lines of verse she'd written - all without fear of attack from an unseen enemy.

Keep reading the story from the NY Post.

HILLARY FIRED FOR LIES, UNETHICAL BEHAVIOR FROM CONGRESSIONAL JOB: FORMER BOSS
by Ed Morrissey

As Hillary Clinton came under increasing scrutiny for her story about facing sniper fire in Bosnia, one question that arose was whether she has engaged in a pattern of lying.
The now-retired general counsel and chief of staff of the House Judiciary Committee, who supervised Hillary when she worked on the Watergate investigation, says Hillary’s history of lies and unethical behavior goes back farther than anyone realizes.
Jerry Zeifman, a lifelong Democrat, supervised the work of 27-year-old Hillary Rodham on the committee. Hillary got a job working on the investigation at the behest of her former law professor, Burke Marshall, who was also Sen. Ted Kennedy’s chief counsel in the Chappaquiddick affair. When the investigation was over, Zeifman fired Hillary from the committee staff and refused to give her a letter of recommendation – one of only three people who earned that dubious distinction in Zeifman’s career.
Why?
“Because she was a liar,” Zeifman said. “She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.”
I had also informed Hillary that the Douglas impeachment files were available for public inspection in the committee offices. She later removed the Douglas files without permission and carried them to the offices of the impeachment — where they were no longer accessible to the public.

To tell the kind of lie Hillary told you must be a good liar and have a good memory. Didn't Mark Twain say that is why he didn't lie, because he didn't have a good enough memory. But she said it and we have all heard about it and had our chuckle. And we can conclude that perhaps Mark Twain's old adage has a grain of truth in it. Now, is this the only story you've got or can you tell us something new for a change.

I'll tell you what is shocking.
That someone who had to live through war and ethnic cleansing would be shocked by a very stupid lie.
I am the one who is shocked!

p.s. The continuing media coverage of Mrs. Clinton's gaffe about Bosnia is not perpetrated by Obama's campaign, just as media coverage of Rev. Wright is not published by Clinton's campaign. Both camps or their supporters might be responsible for initially bringing issues to the media's attention, but it's the news outlets who publish the news. Once a cat is out of the bag, the owner is left holding the bag but the cat is no longer in his control. This is why we have to stop the character assasinations. The guy who lets them lose no longer controls them. I don't think any of us want the result to be that neither of our candidates win. If I'm wrong in that assumption, then the Republicans really do deserve the presidency for another 4-8 years.

True, but is it right to call it a "gaffe," when the lies about Bosnia were said and printed by the Clinton campaign again and again? And, isn't it immaterial what happens to Clinton at this point, since she isn't going to become the nominee? It is the case that Obama could very well lose to McCain, but no one can imagine Clinton as a candidate. Bosnia and Northern Ireland--these are her claimed "accomplishments" as 1st Lady. Both claims have been debunked. She was largely a ceremonial 1st lady, with no security clearance, and away from Washington on ceremonial trips during the most severe crises of her husband's administration.

Dems, do you really want another 4 years of a Republican Whitehouse? The two candidates are not that far apart on the ISSUES. God forbid this race would be about ISSUES rather than character assasination -- from BOTH camps. Clinton supporters, you feel maligned and picked upon? Welcome to the club. You feel Obama should drop out of the race? While he's winning? Get real. You're mad that people want Hillary to drop out of the race while she's still winning states? I agree, let her stay in until November, if she wants. Just STOP THE CHARACTER ASSASINATIONS.

BOTH candidates now need to focus on John McCain and pretend the other guy doesn't exist. Each candidate needs to tell us why THEY are the best person for the job, and NOT why we should hate the other guy. We are on the SAME TEAM. We just have to decide who is our starting quarterback. If they keep kneecapping each other, we WILL end up with a President McCain.

STOP. THE. CHARACTER. ATTACKS.

These ARE the issues. Dems have whittled it down to two candidates: one who is a former first lady, a carpetbagging senator, who lies about her credentials (obviously) and , the other, a very charming, but thoroughly inexperienced young senator from Illinois.
You had other choices. There are actually Democrats that Republicans and independents would vote for. Did you know that?
You get the candidate you deserve. And meanwhile I'm thinking more and more that this country needs another Republican president.

Lying is an art; HRC is no Picasso. More like Jackson Pollock, throwing paint around every which way unable to tell what's what. A gaffe, as has been noted, stops being a gaffe when the gaffee is reminded of the truth and she ELECTS to continue it; it is then not a gaffe -- it's a lie. And frankly, I'm having a bit of schadenfreude with HRC right now, watching her twist in the wind...and it's all of her own making. To stop character assassinations, there must first BE character, something sorely lacking in the Clinton gene pool.

She lied, blatantly and repeatedly, thereby saying to you and the rest of the American public, "They're so stupid they'll believe anything. It doesn't matter if I get caught because I'll just say 'Oops, I misspoke; silly me' and those suckers will eat it right up."

Your response to that is, "Move along. There's nothing to see here."

How incredibly sad.

Well, you obviously haven't opened one, have you? Much of "The Audacity of Hope" focuses on his beliefs, his thoughts on America, his hopes for America, etc. So your point is moot.

Hillary has decended into no-man's land. Her reality challenges aside, she's demonstrated that she's either unaware or disdainful of the fact that, no matter WHICH Democrat makes it to the White House, we HAVE to end the corrupt and ravening Reagan era, for good and all.

The next president HAS to be a non-republican, and the next president HAS to be willing and able to carry forth an enlightened liberal mandate; which won't happen if he/she shares the Democratic vote with John McCain (!), or if the next president is really a Good Ol' Boy in a pantsuit, as she's gone out of her way to prove she is.

The reason this HAS to be so, is that the next president needs to be willing -- and needs to be ABLE -- to undo the damage the Bush Regime has done to the Constitution, and to our national institutions. He/she won't be able to do this, coming from a divided mandate. Clinton shown herself unwilling to buck the king-makers in our corrupt commercial culture.

The damage has to be largely reversed in THE NEXT administration, or it will be endemic to the presidency from this time forward. Obama has said he will work to roll back the "powers" of the presidency that Bush has claimed for the office; and that's exactly what we need the next president to do.

is this what Obama people have been reduced to? SOOKOOYAH_GURL is the reason that MANY MANY MANY supporters of Senator Clinton WILL NOT vote for Obama if he is the democratic nominee in November. I am sure there are enough of SOOKOOYAH_GURL to get him elected president. He does not need Senator Clinton's supporters. Oh, I guess that makes me a racist!
I would like to be a fly on the wall to see your faces when Senator Clinton gets the nomination :)

Your brand of "logic" (which would appear to be widespread, at least at the HuffPo) makes no sense. It smacks of a four year old taking their ball and going home. I don't support Senator Clinton, yet if the choice is between her and Senator McCain, it's an easy choice for me to make and I'll cast my ballot for Hillary. Frankly, any other course of action is selfish, self-immolating, and immature. Have we learned nothing since we all thought there was "no difference" between Al Gore and G.W. Bush?

SOOKOOYAH_GURL is obviously an idiot. Senator Obama is not, and neither is Senator Clinton. In the event Senator Clinton is the nominee, I'm not going to hold some of the infantile rhetoric that's appeared on the Huffington Post against her as a candidate. I'm going to vote in my own best interest.

Oh boy. I don't blame her for being upset by Hillary's lie. You have a big moment in your life, you remember it very clearly, and then you have to hear the person you were so proud to meet demonize your country... It has to be painful. I know I have been very pained by Hillary's actions. And I'll be voting for Obama.

On Feb. 2, 1994 two women arrived in Sarajevo while the city was under siege by Serbian forces. For two years Sarajevo had survived tens of thousands of artillery attacks. For over a year Sarajevo's lifeline to the world had been a crude tunnel. The two women, Tansu Ciller, then Prime Minister of Turkey, and Benazir Bhutto, then Prime Minister of Pakistan, entered the city through that make-shift tunnel.

These two courageous leaders donned flack jackets and rode in open jeeps throughout the heart of the bullet-riddled city attempting to call the world's attention to the slaughter that was Sarajevo. The next day Serbian forces shelled the Markale mareketplace, killing 69 civilians.

Hillary Clinton may wish with all her heart to have been there that day with Tansu and Benazir - but she wasn't. If she had been, perhaps hundreds of thousands of lives would not have been lost over the next two years. Instead Hillary arrived 2 years later in a safer place at a safer time and listened on the tarmac to a young girl read her a poem that began, "Peace has come". The danger was over by then, the time for heroics, by a visiting head of state or First Lady, had passed.

And her husband did nothing to stop the slaughter of Bosnian Muslims. Nothing, until it was too late. Just like Hillary. Too late. And too little.

The context in which Clinton's Bosnia trip took place - NYT 040108, link below:

(Clinton's party) flew in a C-17 cargo plane from Germany to Bosnia precisely because it was capable of steep descents and ascents into and out of areas of conflict.

We were issued flak jackets on the plane before landing in Tuzla and were told the tarmac ceremony might be canceled or curtailed due to sniper fire from the surrounding hillsides.

The first lady and Chelsea Clinton were moved to the armored cockpit for the landing.

Armored vehicles were placed around the tarmac, and Apache helicopters hovered overhead.

The planned welcoming ceremony was shortened, (Ejup Ganic, acting President of Bosnia at the time) said, but it still lasted a bit longer than expected because a nongovernment group brought along a little girl to sing to the first lady.

Later, Mrs. Clinton flew from Tuzla to two military outposts by helicopter, escorted by Apache gunships...

There was nothing heroic about Hillary's Bosnia trip. It was a publicity stunt, nothing more. The girl did not sing, she read her poem, which begins "Peace has come".

Dragonfly, you're welcom to go to thomas.loc.gov (the library of congress) to check out Sen. Obama's record. It's nearly as long as Sen. Clinton's and has more substance. As an organizer, he stood with the unions when they went on strike, he registered voters, he looked into issues of unfair housing, etc, etc, etc.

What's the point of attacking Sen. Obama over something you've admitted to not researching?

What good is Clinton's work, if she sees it as so meaningless that she has to lie about it to make it seem useful?
