HARRISBURG, Pa. — Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton accused rival Sen. Barack Obama and his allies of trying to stop people from voting as some of his backers have called on her to drop out of the presidential race.

The Obama campaign rejected the charge, dismissing Clinton's criticism as "completely laughable."

In a series of television interviews in states holding upcoming contests, Clinton vowed to press on with her campaign and suggested Obama and his supporters wanted to keep those states from playing a role in selecting the party's presidential nominee.

"My take on it is a lot of Senator Obama's supporters want to end this race because they don't want people to keep voting," she told CBS affiliate KTVQ in Billings, Mont. "That's just the opposite of what I believe. We want people to vote. I want the people of Montana to vote, don't you?"

Montana holds its primary June 3. The New York senator made similar comments in interviews with stations in Indiana and North Carolina, which hold primaries May 6.

Obama leads the overall race for the Democratic nomination with 1,631 delegates, including separately chosen party and elected officials known as superdelegates. He got the backing of Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar on Monday. Clinton has 1,501, according to the latest AP tally.

Clinton almost certainly will end the primary season narrowly trailing Obama in the popular vote and among pledged delegates unless the nullified primaries in Florida and Michigan are counted _ an unlikely scenario at best. But Obama is unlikely to end the race with the 2,024 pledged delegates needed to win outright either, meaning the nominee will be determined by roughly 800 superdelegates.

Responding to Clinton, Obama spokesman Bill Burton said: "That is completely laughable from a campaign that thought the race would be over on February 5. We have encouraged our supporters to do no such thing and Senator Obama was very clear he supports her carrying on in this race."

Campaigning in Pennsylvania, Obama called the continuing primary battle "a struggle" but said he believed it was a good process that would strengthen the party in the long run.

"It is a healthy thing that so many people are passionate," Obama said in Johnstown. "I think it is great that Senator Clinton's supporters are as passionate about her as my supporters are about me... I think that is making this historic race that much more compelling."

Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy last week became the first leading Democrat to openly call on Clinton to step aside and cede the nomination to Obama. He said he worried the prolonged nominating battle was strengthening the chances of the Republican nominee in waiting, John McCain.

Since then, Obama and his supporters have said Clinton should stay in the race as long as she chooses while indicating a lengthy primary battle would not help the party's position in the general election.

Obama has been picking up superdelegates at a rapid clip while Clinton's success with that group has slowed considerably.

"I don't even keep track of it, I can't even tell you that figure," Clinton said when asked by Pittsburgh CBS affiliate KDKA how many superdelegates had endorsed her in recent weeks.

As she spoke, her husband, former President Clinton, was in Oregon, lobbying uncommitted superdelegates.

Obama on Today ( whatever its called ) this morning said something to the effect that you have to be able to see things from another persons perspective, empathy, walking in someone else's shoes, that comes naturally to liberals. I can't remember a candidate from either party saying such an obvious thing.

Please, the guy is arrogant beyond belief. He is also a blatant liar and racist.

You think that because someone smiles at you and can speak well that they gave your best interests at heart. He is no better than Clinton, and probably worse, due to his lack of experience.

McCain is going to take Obama down hard if you make the mistake of nominating him. Hillary won't do much better but at least she'll have a fighting chance. Liberals are so easily fooled.

Yup. I agree with him on most issues, but it's that kind of thing - his ability to think in the abstract, to recognize what's needed on a human level, and express those things clearly... The ability to de-escalate a fight, and bring the conversation around to what's really happening... THAT's what I've been looking for in a candidate for years. I thought a woman might bring some of those things to the table, and I was fully expecting to be a Hillary supporter. But to my surprise, it came from Obama.

He has struck a chord that resonates well with the people, a chord that has not been struck in a long, long time, a chord that harmonizes intellect with honesty and sincerity - this is why he is winning and it is why he will win.

If Hillary supporters contributed a dime to Hillary for each time they complain about "them nasty Obama supporters", Hillary wouldn't be broke.

Hillary supporters yap a lot, but they don't give any money to Hillary. She's broke.

Look at us, we keep our candidate well-funded, so he can worry about important stuff, like going after McCain. Meanwhile, poor Hillary has to resort to all these lies just to get by.

Shame on you Hillary supporters.

The Clinton-Obama contest is good for America and democracy - I reject the claim that somehow John McCain benefits from a close race for the Dem ticket, the only way that that will come to is if we come out of the convention still divided, and that's not going to happen - we are in a fight for the heart and soul of this land, our charge is to wrest it back from the clutches of the traitorous Neoconservatives, that is the task, that is the focus.

Let the Dem games continue until there is one fully tested and vetted person standing, then on to the real fight.

A long-standing pattern...

"When the investigation was over, Zeifman fired Hillary from the committee staff and refused to give her a letter of recommendation – one of only three people who earned that dubious distinction in Zeifman's 17-year career.

"Why?

"“Because she was a liar,” Zeifman said in an interview last week. “She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.”"

Reasonable people should use this provided link and read the article, then form their own unbiased opinion. Ziefman accuses the 27 year old Clinton - while working in a group of lawyers in the House committee considering Nixon's impeachment - of taking some material from a file into her office, then referencing it to write a legal brief with which he disagreed. That's it. How utterly nefarious. The "lie" part was her disagreement with Ziefman's interpretation of Nixon's inherent right to be represented by an attorney in the particular circumstance. Calling another attorney a liar because she disagreed with his interpretation of precedent seems a little over the top to me, but everyone interested should research the issue and make an independent judgement.

Senator Obama's comment that Hillary should run as long as she wants to (or words to that effect) was repeated on all the news channels yesterday and probably hanging in huge letters from a zeppelin somewhere. And yet, Hillary went public this morning with her latest public lie, which is accusing Obama of denying people their vote. When does good old fashioned politicking become slander? Mrs. Clinton is walking a fine line though her treachery seems to have no boundaries. It is bad enough to lie about incidents in her personal past but it is slanderous to tell obvious lies in a public venue in the hope of discrediting another person.

That's because he's full of BS. His surrogates are doing his dirty work for him, and he's pushing the envelope. Nobody believes that Pelosi, Leahy, et al are operating off the page. That would be terribly naive.

He blocked MI and FL. He's trying to push her out so he doesn't have to lose.

Simple.

It's really a fair fight, surrogate-wise.

Obama has Pelosi, Leahy and Casey, and the Clintons have FOX News and Rush Limbaugh.

Plus, fabulous Fox Fan Ed Rendell.

Oh, and the Architect of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. He's another Clinton-backer, oddly enough.

Bill Kristol, Sean Hannitty, it just goes on and on. Really, she has plenty of powerful backers. Too bad none of them are Democrats.

So now I am a troll. Continually insulting millions of voters is such a strange campaign strategy, but I am getting comfortable with it. After all, Senator Clinton, herself, called all of us delusional about one month ago. Thing is there are more of us "delusional" folks who believe that we can change Washington along with Senator Obama than there are those of you who believe that nothing can be accomplished but small minor incremental change aka the Clinton triangulation. Senator Obama will be the 44th President of these States United and we, the People, will "delusionally" keep "trolling" our way to make real, transformative change in Washington. We will ensure that healthcare is reformed and not simply by creating the horror of HMO's (like happened in the 1990's post-Hillary care), we will ensure that our schools are improved, that we get out of Iraq as "carefully as we got in carelessly" and that we green our economy. We will do this -- do you get it yet? Yes we can!

I think that has more to do with what makes a logical ticket than anything else. I am an Obama supporter, but I think Clinton/Obama makes a lot more sense than Obama/Clinton. I think he adds a lot more to her ticket than she adds to his. An Obama/Clinton ticket would be the worst of both worlds...people would still be worried about his lack of Washington experience and she brings her negatives along. There are plenty of people with more experience than Clinton who could be Obama's VP who are less polarizing. If Clinton wins PA big and then wins Indiana and North Carolina, I think there might be a credible case for a Clinton/Obama ticket. But if Obama manages to pull off an upset in PA or Indiana, I see little value to him putting her on the ticket.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:03 PM on 04/01/2008

On the one hand I would like to see Clinton/Obama on the ticket but if Hillary becomes the nominee, I'd also like to see her pick a person like Jim Webb as her VP - smart, military, up and coming senator from VA. This would certainly challenge John McCain's profile in courage platform he's running on. Of course Obama could make the same choice but I think it would make him look weaker as a man than he already appears .... maybe his wife Michelle should be the candidate instead as she's one strong tough lady.

The blacks have already turned their backs on the Clintons (90% for Obama but its not about race, and the Republicans have done so much for them over the years, HA!) so you ask, how much more angry can they get if she becomes the nominee and doesn't pick Obama. Just ask Rev Wright.

Danbury, what makes you think unity is speaking well of Clinton?

In fact what does unity have to do with Clinton at all? Unity is about the people taking back the government, and nothing to do with Clinton. If you don't like the comments about Clinton, you have the choice not to read them. Why whine like a baby every time you read a comment you don't like.

Clintons = Democratic Party = Clintons

If you are a true Democrat, you love Bill and want his wife as our president.

A true Democrat thinks Obama is only qualified to be Sec. of State.

That has been Danbury’s argument from the word go. She was complimenting Obama and trying to unite the party.

one thing Huffpo Democrats don't understand is that Barack Obama will not win the general election.
Presently Barack is getting the majority of the African American vote, all those dynamics will change when the general election starts..
Baracks lack of experience in politics, his ties with Reverand Wright and with Rezco will all be exposed in november.
Also it won't be Democrats voting for their nominee, it will be democrats, independents and republicans all voting..including Florida and Michigan.
Now I know many extreme leftists will smear my comments with their idealogy on Obama...all I can say is blah, blah blah.
No matter what you say, the facts remain the same. Vote for Barack and see the more experienced McCain elected. Vote for Hillary and their is a much better chance to gain the White House in November.
Period.
That's the way it is and the way it will be...so you can decide who you want to lead our country come the next four years.
Hillary or McCain.

"one thing Huffpo Democrats don't understand is that Barack Obama will not win the general election."

You can prove this to me by letting me know this weeks Big Game numbers. I will be too busy spending the money to care about November. I promise I will share the wealth.

"Presently Barack is getting the majority of the African American vote, all those dynamics will change when the general election starts."

Are you thinking that African Americans will not vote for Obama in November. Are you saying that the large African American population in Utah gave him that state?

"Baracks lack of experience in politics, "

What are you guaging this by??? Landings in war zones???

his ties with Reverand Wright and with Rezco will all be exposed in november.

I think I know your secret. You are a time traveler who is just learning the ropes of sub space. You need to check your logs. The Rev. Wright and Rezco issues have been exposed already!

Yes, please, we need to pay attention to the present. Barack knows. He's Hopeful(tm) and Hope(tm) will carry us through. The future is so far in the future that it doesn't do any good to worry about it now because Barack has Hope(tm).

Further, once the future is the present, we will have Change(tm). Because we have Hope(tm), that lwill lead to the future becoming the present which is why we will have Change(tm). See the past Changes(tm) to the present. It's on his Web Site(tm). I have a friend who knows a guy that was sitting next to someone at Starbucks whose brother actually went to the Web Site(tm) and saw something there that gave him Hope(tm) for Change(tm).

Besides, he is so cool.

The Obama quote Clinton made up, and has now repeated umpteen times, all over the country, followed by what her opponent actually said:

"Now, this is one of the most important elections we've ever had. There is so much at stake. But just as it's getting time to vote here in Pennsylvania, Senator Obama says he's getting tired of it. His supporters say they want it to end," Clinton said.

"My attitude is Senator Clinton can run as long as she wants," he said.

Wow. What integrity.

She's a hero to women everywhere!
