Hillary Clinton opened up her press conference in Philadelphia today with a bold new challenge to Barack Obama (it was met by "guffaws all around from the press corps"):

"This has been a very hard fought race. We need to do something so that our party and our people can make the right decision. So I have a proposal: today I am challenging Senator Obama to a bowl off. A bowling night right here in Pennsylvania. Winner take all. I'll even spot him two frames.

"It's time for his campaign to get out of the gutter and allow all of the pins to be counted. And I'm prepared to play this game all the way to the tenth frame. and when this game is over the American people will know when that phone rings at 3am they'll have a president who's ready to bown on day one. So let's strike a deal and go bowling for delegates. We don't have a moment to spare.

"Because it's already April Fool's Day. So happy April Fool's Day everyone."

Just when I thought I would not be April fooled this Hillary really got me. Now I agree with someone who wrote that it is a good idea to hold one bowling night to raise funds for the Democratic Party , not for the candidates.

This just in on Cnn " Clinton supporter says he would be stunned if Senator Obama does'nt win the Democratic nomination and subsequently the Presidency of the United States. The statement was made by Rep. Emanuel Cleaver,Democrat from Missouri.

Why not? Do it for charity. Do it for a fund to help the 29,000+ wounded in Iraq.

iP, can you see her giving up $$$ to any cause except her own? Not likely.

That really is a good idea about doing int for the wounded soldiers. I mean, we, AMERICAN need to do something for the troops. We give a bunch of rich actors gift bags almost everyday, why not do something good for our soldiers, hell they're the ones who do the real work for us all, Dems & Repubs.

Obama responds: "I challenge her to a 40-yard dash UNDER SNIPER FIRE!"

I'm sorry, but is bowling a sport? I mean you can't play tennis, down beers and expect to get better unlike bowling.

Sigh.

Obama's supporters are sometimes his own worst enemy...

C'mon folks, I have come to really dislike Clinton's tactics during this contest, but she was cracking an April fool's joke, and as far as scripted political campaigns where everyone is terrified to say boo for fear the the media will spin it into a tornado, it was a pretty funny ad lib. Planned ahead, obviously, but still pretty amusing.

That being said, I hope she loses...the primary contest, not the bowling match

OK, Eddy, fair enough, but you said it yourself--a "carefully planned" ad lib...for most people an oxymoron, but for Clinton? The problem Obama people have is that these people have run such an ugly campaign that everything is loaded now. How far you sure, for example, that this cute little April Fools joke wasn't an effort to get more news outlets to run footage of Obama's bowling foibles to make him look like Kerry the goose hunter or Dukakis the tank operator in the eyes of PA voters? What if we make the deal that whoever wins the bowling match has to drop out of the race? ;)

Eddy, We do get giddy, overprotective and vindictive sometimes but only because we are so engaged in this election. I know that I have not yet learned how to deal with it all. I get depressed and or overjoyed based on the day's news. People are used to just ho-hum voting, mildly interested in the results and go to work the next day - just another day. Now we think we have a chance to really, really change things. Cut us a little slack when we go overboard.

I can here the sound of her polyester pants, the thighs rubbing together as she waddles down to the lane.

Yea, me too - she is a bowling ball - with her polyester suits and old lady shoes - she would not even have to purchase any bowling shoes which is good because she might have to loan herself some money for that purchase too - haaaaaaaaaaaa - april fool to her -

HA Ha. Hillary Clinton is fat. Ha ha.

No fat jokes - so not cool and inappropriate.

Well I have to admit, I heard the audio of this and it had me going for a while. A sense of humor is still appreciated at this stage of the game.

Hillary is not even original - this was discussed last night on Hardball with Chris Matthews and guests. They mentioned that Hillary would probably like to have a bowl off with Barack since that is not one of his talents and she would win. So much for being cute Hillary.........

It would have been funny and even a cool challenge to toss out...if only she hadn't resorted to the low blow. She never ceases to amaze me, how she outragously slimes and then points the finger at Obama. We all know whose campaign is in the gutter...

Every day that goes by I think this woman is seriously deranged. Has she not seen her own numbers? does she not realize that her tactics are only harming herself?

Ease up, she has a sense of humor and cracked a joke. It was funny and refreshing. When has Obama ever showed a sense of humor? Here is the perfect day for it. I'd love to see him top her.

He shows a sense of humor everytime he mentions that Dick Cheney is his distant cousin, or that Republicans in meet and greet lines whisper to him "Barrack- I'm a Republican- and I support you" and he responds "Great! Why are we whispering?".

Interestingly, every time Hillary shows a 'sense of humor', she puts Obama down. "Change you can Xerox." "Why don't we ask Barack if he needs a pillow." If he wanted to, he could easily 'respond in kind' to her 'humor" by asking her if she wants to compete against him in a 60 yard dash to duck sniper fire- but he won't go there.

Her numbers are every bit as likely to win outright the Democratic nomination as Obama's are. Don't you think "deranged" is a bit of a stretch? The manic way Obama supporters dissect every word and nuance of Clinton's is what is actually deranged.

No, I mean her approval numbers and her polling numbers. Her approval is down next to Bush, in the 30's, and in todays gallup her lead in PA has evaporated. She is the butt of all late night jokes and her credibility numbers are tanking because people now perceive her a liar.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see she is becoming unelectible in the GE, and that she is only harming herself by her "kitchen sink" strategy.

Her numbers are NOT"every bit as likely to win" the nomination. She cannot catch up on pledeged delegates. That is a fact. Period. Her only hope is to get the supers to overturn the vote and pick her anyway, but I don't see how she can amke a case when she keeps tanking her own electiblity numbers with her own tactics.

And no, deranged is NOT a stretch, when she continues this sliming behavior despite the harm it does to herself.

Eh, not hilarious, but funny enough I guess. I think it'd be equally as funny for him to accept her challenge but throw in the caveat that she can't add Bill's score to hers when the game ends :-P

That wouldn't be a good thing for Obama, a score of 37 can be acheived by any 5 year old or 75 year old in this country. Losing to Hillary would be more embarassing than Bob Doyle falling off the stage.

It was for 7 frames, the 37. Still not good, but not as bad as it sounds.

Not as bad as it seems? He barely avged 5 pins a frame, my wife does better then that and she rolls it granny style and walks away.

Actually it was an entire game, he got a spare in the 7th frame read the story again.

"Obama let everyone know he hadn't bowled since Jimmy Carter was president -- and finished with a score of 37."
