On Larry King Live Tuesday, former Minnesota Gov. Jesse "The Body" Ventura talked about living "off the grid" in Baja California. Before telling King about the joys of living away from modern conveniences, Ventura had a word for King's CNN colleague Lou Dobbs, about his Mexican neighbors.

I say we put up a wall, and then later Ronald Reagan Jr. will ask Gorbachev Jr. to tear it down for us. This world needs more walls I say. My favorite is the Great Wall of China, it worked so well for the Chinese.

I love Lou Dobbs. I haven't been feeling myself lately. I sort of feel the American dream slipping between my fingers. I am not satisfied with my employer. I hate my boss. My car is 5 years old. I have to fill out paperwork to get my $600 refund check. I can't retire until I'm 65. Gas is $4 a gallon. I am suffering but I don't know the cause. Then I turn on Lou Dobbs and he rails against the Mexican's all day and I suddenly see the light. It is the Mexicans. They are the cause of all my problems and most of the problems of this country. Thank you Lou Dobbs for being a modern day American Evangelist.

Signed...

Recardo Sanchez

PHOENIX (By Richard A. Serrano, LATimes) August 19, 2007 " Violent crime along the U.S.-Mexico border, which has long plagued the scrubby, often desolate stretch, is increasingly spilling northward into the cities of the American Southwest.

In Phoenix, deputies are working the unsolved case of 13 border crossers who were kidnapped and executed in the desert. In Dallas, nearly two dozen high school students have died in the last two years from overdoses of a $2-a-hit Mexican fad drug called "cheese heroin."

The crime surge, most acute in Texas and Arizona, is fueled by a gritty drug war in Mexico that includes hostages being held in stash houses, daylight gun battles claiming innocent lives, and teenage hit men for the Mexican cartels. Shipments of narcotics and vans carrying illegal workers on U.S. highways are being hijacked by rival cartels fighting over the lucrative smuggling routes. Fires are being set in national forests to divert police.

In Laredo, Texas, a teenager who had been driving around the United States in a $70,000 luxury sedan confessed to becoming a Mexican cartel hit man when he was just 13. In Nogales, Ariz., an 82-year-old man was caught with 79 kilograms of cocaine in his Chevrolet Impala. The youth was sentenced to 40 years in prison in one slaying case and is awaiting trial in another; the old man received 10 years.

Yeah, no need to close the border.

Ventura has a big fat chip on his shoulders - his motive for attention? What ever you say I'm against it and please believe that I'm a tough guy yadda, yadda.

Ventura is from Minnesota - he doesn't have to deal with what the states on the Mexican border deal with.

Didn't he even wash his hair for the show? Ewwww....he looks so grubby.

Thanks for the inane and totally irrelevant comments about Ventura's "Chip on his shoulder?"...being from Minnesota (no Hispanics in Minnesota...duh.)...and the comment about his hair is infantile at best.

Grow up.

My Thought,
You might consider adding a 'less' to your posting name, as in 'ThoughtLESS.'. Or maybe change it to 'Clueless'. But, 'Racist', may be most accurate.
In case you didn't know it, Minnesotans are not unlike the rest of the nation. They like cheap labor. Minnesotans are also similar to everyone else in that they like to have warm bodies working in jobs that no one else wants, including meat packing, farm labor, low pay factory jobs of all sorts, etc.
What you ought to do is take Ventura's admonition to Lou Dobbs to heart and apply it to yourself. Those 'brown-skinned' persons are no threat to you. What actually threatens the quality of your life is myopia and racism, which you clearly have in abundance.
Before I leave, though, just tell everyone just how Mexicans compromise the quality of your life. Also, tell us how they enhance the quality of your life. Here. Let me help you with just one. The Mexicans that you fear and loath so much do keep those tomatos and McDonalds cheeseburgers that you like under ten dollars.!
Adios, simpleton!

Great interview by Jesse and he's doing something enviable, to me. Having lived in Mexico for 4 years I know that Dobbs is an unrepentant racist who projects his irrational fears onto that part of his audience which is gullible and ignorant. King was really squirming during Jesse's comments about Dobbs. Lou should call him out, they are about the same weight so it would be a fair match. Lou might be able to hold Jesse off with his hot air of nonsense.

Another racist speaks up for Lou Dobbs, leader of racists in the USA.

Get over your racism--all people are created equal, but some are dumb enough to be racists.

I wish Ventura would get on a station right before or after any of the right wing neo con christofascist. How about Silli Savage yesterday. If he and Oreally had their way everyone who wrote for and or blogged at the Huff post would be in Gitmo. And we are the angry ones. You betcha I am angry at those hate mongrels.

1.) According to statistics from the INS, most people who are in the U.S. illegally actually entered this country legally. That means that the pictures of people running across the border, while fascinating, are misleading. If not a single person crossed the border illegally, the number of those entering the country to end up as undocumented would be reduced by less than 50%. It would be far less expensive to keep track of the people who enter the country legally than to build a border fence.

2.) According to statistics from the INS, about 1/3 of the people coming here and ending up as illegals are coming from Asia, not Mexico or Latin America. So, why is Lou Dobbs obsessed with Mexicans? Its not because he's dumb. He knows its easy to get non-Mexicans riled up about Mexicans.

3.) Until some form of birth control is implemented world-wide, there will continue to be immense pressures on the borders of developed countries from areas of the world with less developed economies. Poor people in Latin America have traditionally had as many babies as Mormons in this country, and that is not good.

Just so you know since the 70's Mexicos TFR has declined from 8 to 3. Over the next thirty years there will not be enough babies, American or Mexican to fill the needs of the growing economy.

Pure hypocrisy and racism.

So because you never thought of Mexicans as brown-skinned people that means that Lou doesn't either? Are you the voice in Lou's head?

Here's an idea:

I see brown skinned people. I see black skinned people. I see yellow skinned people. Different colored skin is a strong indicator of cultural differences and varying background. At least from one's one. Does this mean that I am a racist? No. It means that I am cogniscent of cultural differences between people's and take those into account. Treating people of skin tones different from my own in a derogatory or dehumanizing manner IS racism.

Can you follow that logic or should I get some crayons and draw you a picture?

I remember being told I should just stop thinking of myself as brown skinned - that the real problem, the real racism was my perception of myself.

Unfortunately no one told the cops. Or the banks. Or the landlords. Or the schools. Or the employers. Or the Justice Department. Or FEMA.

The fact is Mexicans are discriminated, especially in the West. And when approval of that discrimination is dressed up in anti-illegal immigration tirades it is just as transparent as anti-Muslim/pro-Americanism, or the anti-Black War on Drugs. There are always those who say the racists are the ones who bring racism up, that the ones who recognize it are the problem . This is always the trick racists try to pull. It makes them feel better. It's kinda the "who smelt it dealt it" theory of guilt - and just a foolish and childish. The fact is they just don't want it, brought up at all.

I don't remember too much discussion of the Cubans that we welcomed with open arms and gave social security, including the criminals Castro dumped on us.

I have no problem with the Cubans, or the Mexicans, or the other immigrants who come here for a better life. If my grandfather had pink eye when he landed at Ellis island, I would have spoken Russian until I was on my train ride to the gas chambers.

When the Chinese laborers were brought to this country to build the railroad, wives were not permitted.

"Build the railroads and get the hell out, this is a white, European man's country, not some kind of color melting pot."

gosh, i almost forgot, where were the camps that Americans of German descent were imprisoned. i can't google it.

Great point Michael. Discrimination never went away in the Southwest and tends to increase during economic downturns.

What troubles me is how segregated the economy is. Look at nearly any industry, save fast food, agriculture and prisons, and it disproportionately employs white people. If all people are created equally, all races/ethnicities should be represented in the work force more or less relative to the makeup of the overall population. It should happen naturally. Even if you take into account only citizens of the country, there is no explanation for this other than racism/bigotry/xenophobia.

It's is necessary to study body language, tone and other factors when determining what someone means when they talk. Communication is more than just talk. Reading between the lines is possible when the whole communication process is taken into account and it reveals Dobbs to be a racist. He's from Idaho, the homeland of the neo-nazi organizations.

Oh, you mean the way Lou uses immigrants as HIS whipping post? Do you have any idea what you wrote?

Lou pushes his racists philosophies and beliefs because he is encouraged to do so and probably believes most of them. He represents our country's worst side, not our best.

Go Jesse"he's always been a straight shooter and still is.

Lou Dobbs was a washed up financial journalist on CNN before he discovered what Limbaugh and Coulter had discovered before him: Extremism sells. It's a good business.

There are gullible people who will buy your books, watch your TV shows and listen to your radio show if you tell them that you're looking out for them against those bad people. It's a very simple formula, and it works. TuffPosh probably believes that Lou Dobbs cares about him. TuffPosh is willing to ignore the fact that Lou Dobbs pays illegal aliens indirectly to maintain his daughters' show horses and the tournament circuit that they participate in.

If you hate what's being sold here, why come here? To be the lone voice of ALL CAPS reason and hopefully sway a few of us over to your side? Is that your holy crusade?

To be honest, I am not what many would consider a liberal. I have liberal leanings regarding certain social policies but when it comes to many issues, I would be considered a strong conservative. That being said, I find the articles, commentaries, and blogs on this site far more balanced and informative than I find on other political sites - both right and left wing.

So I don't know where you get your "leftist extremism" claim but then again, you type in all caps and that is usually a strong indicator of stupidity.

dora-rice, Leftist extremism! Get real. Sadly, the Excited States has become a country where even "liberal" is a perjorative and people like Dobbs ruthlessly fan the flames of nativism that has been a part of American life from colonial times. Dobbs attacks Mexicans who do the dirty work but gives a pass to the greedheads in the financial centers who in the name of holy profit have screwed millions of your citizens.
