John McCain on Tuesday struck away from the political legacy of President George W. Bush, as he sought to plot an obstacle-strewn course back to the White House for Republicans.

The party's presidential pick also mused on the lessons of his rebellious youth, as he sought to frame his life story as a history of self sacrifice and military service, the culmination of which would be the presidency.

"The point is, I'm not running on the Bush presidency, I'm running on my own service to the country, my own record in the House of Representatives and the United States Senate and my vision for the future," McCain told ABC televisio

Do not be mistaken. John McCain says he hates war. And he hates it because he lived it, and he experienced the pain of being tortured and seeing his buddies killed. This is what he has said. He hates war.

And he hates war so much that the only way he thinks he can keep us safe from war is by, well, having another 100 years of war.

More the Same, Just Insane, John McCain

"another 100 years of war." That's not what he said. You may not have known that, but Obama does, and he has told this lie repeatedly. Factcheck.org calls it a "rank falsehood".

It's no falsehood that he reversed his position on waterboarding. (Among dozens of other issues.)

Let's see. You are certainly as delusional as Dumbya. You both believe in Iraq and the Miltary Industrial Complex. You also want to make the tax cuts to the VERY rich permanent. You both are incompetent fools about the economy. You also changed your stance about torture. Other than that, you ARE different.

McCain would have to make a serious transformation to NOT be running on Bush. Let's just say, He has no place else to run!

Military kids seldom become honor students because they move around and in all fairness-- they don't have settled lives-- he reminds me of kids that some may refer to as "all boy"--- he had a spunk, a rowdy, fun-loving, non-nerdy, all- American, all boy -charisma-- it seems that the two Bush Presidents, Ronald Reagan, and other repubs don't always measure up to the honors' students lists-- that is a distinction we leave to the Democrats....

Honey, the man's in his 70's.

You're really headed back a stretch to extoll the virtues of 'all-boy'hood.

But contact your local High School's football captain. He may need some help with his resume.

Check the mirror.

There is nothing at all gained by posts like yours. I hope it made you feel better about yourself for a moment, though.

How does being a former prisoner of war make Senator McCain better suited for the presidency? How does that experience provide him the wisdom, intelligence, savviness, vision and leadership amongst many other criteria to be president?

Senator McCain was a naval aviator. He flew a jet. Hundreds of people made each of his flights possible. Did he lead those people? No. A fighter pilot is alone in the skies. There is no one else there with him. McCain doesn't know how to work with people. Evidence: his TEMPER, and ANGER ISSUES. McCain is OLD - older than Saint Ronnie the Raygun. McCain has the scars on his face from CANCER surgery - he's medically unfit for four years of governance. Senator McCain's initial response to trouble on the ground anywhere in the world is - BOMB 'EM!!! Senator McCain has never publicly disclosed how he has dealth with his PTSD. From his ANGER ISSUES, I'd say he hasn't.
Then again, there is his poor judgement in being able to keep his pants zipped - his lack of fidelity and honoring his marriage vows.

He has nothing to run on BUT the bush presidency. And that is the absolute sorriest reason to vote for anyone that I've ever heard.

Experience? Did you not know about the four years in the house, and 20 years in the senate, chairmanship of the Senate Armed Services, Indian Affairs, and Commerce Committees? Architect of normalizing relations with Vietnam? Working with world leaders as Navy Senate Liaison? And too much other stuff to list here.

I REALLY hope that Dems keep bringing up this experience question. He totally blows away both Dems on this, especially Obama.

Sure, he occupied the positions, but what did he actually accomplish? Just because you occupy a post for years on end doesn't mean you provide effective leadership - or effective representation. Tenure in no way shape or form provides any indication of effectiveness. Yep, I hope them dems go after his experience too - because he actually is a very weak candidate.

I'd say he failed to get a number of his most imprtant legislative acts passed and that shows he lacks true leadership. The well known anti-lobying maverick has become another bought off poodle for special interests, if he wins we'll see more more and less money.

He has accomplished some things, like his campaign finance reform legislation. Which he no longer supports.
