American Idol

LOS ANGELES — Say goodbye, Malubay. Ramiele Malubay _ the diminutive singer with the big voice _ was booted from "American Idol" as the show trimmed the competition to eight hopefuls.

Malubay, 20, of Miramar, Fla., crooned Dolly Parton's "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind" on Tuesday night's show. Paula Abdul enjoyed the performance. Randy Jackson thought it was OK. But Simon Cowell _ not so much.

"Overall I thought it was forgettable, and I think it was very reminiscent of something you would see and hear on a cruise ship," the acerbic judge told Malubay.

Brooke White and Kristy Lee Cook were the other lowest vote-getters.

Fan favorite David Cook was back for the results show after having heart palpitations and high blood pressure near the end of Tuesday's sing-off.

The 25-year-old Missouri native _ who was subsequently treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center _ told host Ryan Seacrest that the "whole thing kind of got blown out of proportion. ... I have high blood pressure, and it spiked."

Wednesday's show also featured performances by celebrity mentor Parton and The Clark Brothers.

i'm pulling for the woman with the tats (carly?) or sayesha this year. i thought they both nailed their songs last night. chrisie lee cook stays on because the pre pube boys like her perky breasts. archuletta? he's got a great voice but he's more mime than performer in my eyes.

they australian guy was great last night. i like him and david C. that pie faced kid with the cockroach hair needs to go SOON. jason. oy.

brooke? she's got a perfectly lovely voice but, for me, her YAWN factor is off the charts.

Brooke needs to connect with a song as she did with "Let it Be." The fiddle player and her grinning through Jolene earned Simon's accurate criticism. I personally would love Brooke to win it, as she is probably the only one whose album I'd buy- with the right material and delivery. She could've killed on Jolene with just guitar or piano. On Neil Diamond night, she should do a Brooke-version of "Solitary Man," maybe as "Solitary Girl." And Andrew Lloyd Weber's "I Don't Know How to Love Him."

When American Idol gets down to the 6 or 8 finalists, they are all good singers and it comes to a contest between genres--the rocker, the country singer, the R&B singer, the sensitive artist, etc.

One thing for sure, many of the current pop stars would not have survived had they appeared on AI, with choosing and learning new songs every week, nailing the performance, going through the judging process. etc.

another one takes a bullet for Kristy Lee. Come on, America, you cannot keep this girl in this competition. The other remaining 7 singers are lightyears of talent ahead of her. Please, pack her bags.

I'll never forgive her for what she did to "Eight Days A Week".

Once and for all, if you care about crappy non-stories like this, you REALLY are stupid.

Does "once and for all" mean that one less person (you) will be coming to the Entertainment Section to tell everyone else that they don't care about the Entertainment Section? If so, thank you.

I didn't think was all that good a singer...and appropo of nothing, she was freakishly small. I like Brooke but two songs, this week's Jolene and a couple of weeks back, Every Breath..., she didn't connect with the songs. Jolene is a desperate plea. Check out Jack White's version to hear how it could be done. Every Breath are the words of a stalker. She missed the points both times. connect, Brooke, and you'll go far. David A is annoying. his sincerity is so canned. David C, get that BP down. You're going all the way. Dolly is a national treasure. The Clark Bros are smokin' but I'm sure that simon doesn't get em.

I think Brooke has great talent and could be a huge success.
I think David A needs to break away from his father, go do a couple of years on Broadway, see the world and grow up. He is a great talent.
David Cook should win this thing, but you never know with America.
If they keep Kristy Lee in one more week, I'm going to be sick.

Don't we already have Chris Daughtry?
Why do we need another one in David Cook. He's OK but he's no Chris..if you like that sort of thing.
There's something disturbing about David A. Great voice if he'd only break away from the ballads PLEASE just once.

In the end it SHOULD be Brook and Carley.
But in the end it WILL be Michael Johns and David Cook...
too bad!

You are right about Brooke. I too was hoping she would connect with those songs, especially Jolene. Sometimes you have to perform a song like that a few time to find it, and they get one quick shot. Mindy Smith did a great version of Jolene, and I think Dolly Parton said it was her favorite version.

Yes David A needs to grow up, but he does have it.

marginal singers at best, it matters little who goes or stays.
its all about who likes who and how many times some silly person wants to speed dial there votes in.

only 2 people can "win" this

cook..or johns

I like Ramiele, but I'm glad she got cut. Honestly, she got too caught up in being friends with the other contestants, and in the mushy side of the competition, which I feel got in the way of her performances. If she put as much focus on her performance as she did her relationships with the other contestants I think she could have done very well. I think she was a great singer, she just got too caught up in the drama.

She's just damn adorable isn't she? I didn't even watch the show except to hear her and the Irish woman sing. Oh well, she could do the R&B scene if she really wanted; the talent's there.

I liked her.

How could you not? She was the official little sister of the entire cast, I think.

She was going to get kicked off sooner or later, but it's still sad. I expected Christy or the dreadlocks kid to be next to go.
