I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Helter Skelter

Mike Gravel may not have ended up contributing too much to the Democratic primaries, but if there was one achievement where Gravel led all comers by a million miles, it was the production of amazingly insane campaign videos. Delightful in direct proportion to the extent to which they were ill-advised, no one quite hit the vein of surreal, madcap agitprop quite like Gravel. Well, now that he's officially dumped the Dems for the Libertarians, the guy is free to continue his tradition of making the most retina-searing YouTubes in history. In this clip, the world is heading to Hell in a millenial handbasket, and then Gravel appears on the scene, busting out the Beatles tune "Helter Skelter" in the style of a cranked William Shatner. Do you, don't you, want him to love you?

Mike Gravel may not have ended up contributing too much to the Democratic primaries, but if there was one achievement where Gravel led all comers by a million miles, it was the production of amazingly...

I love Gravel. Wish he hadn't abandoned the Dems because he believes in the core values of the party -- right to choose, human rights, out of Iraq, fair taxation, universal health care, same sex marriage -- so tell me why he's on the Libertarian ticket when he's more progressive than Kucinich? What a world.

Because it sounds like liberal? I don't know. Neal Boortz is a libertarian, so they must be nuts.

"...he's more progressive than Kucinich..."

Careful with this assertion, it draws flames form irate Dennis Kucinich supporters despite it's truth.

Libertarians of the Jeffersonian persuasion (like Ron Paul) are very into freedom. Thats why they are called "liberty - tarians". If citizens would enjoy liberty the first prerequisite is the rule of law. The rule of law means what it says. The law rules, not George Bush. Progressives like Kucinich (social democrat would be more accurate) are also into freedom except that they emphasize freedom *from want* whereas libertarians emphasize freedom *to do* what you want. As matters stand President Bush (a Republican) has put himself above the law and Speaker Pelosi (a Democrat) has said thats OK. So the law (the constitution) is no longer supreme. George Bush is supreme. The aspirations of libertarians and progressives alike are thwarted because we are no longer free.

The "Dim" Democratic party abandoned Gravel...he didn't abandon them! The grand ballroom of mixed politics is coming to its last dance. Beware of the one-party dancer as the dancer knows only one step. I've read and seen somehwere that famous 'goose step' in global history. Americans have even seen it at one of LBJ's daughters weddings. Mike Gravel... you are more than a true American! Video is mind boggling within the "helter skelter" undercurrents, but then truth isn't pretty to see nor listen to. As far as Democratic core values go the party should get out of the bedroom slippers and finally put on a pair of good walking shoes. They're going to need them! I admire Gravel and find his ad reveiling to the intelligent mind, however crazy to those Americans who are too shallow to want Truth over Lies.

So he's officially gone crazy. A politician, even tangentally, associating himself with Charles Manson has to be the definition of crazy.

And he led the one-man filibuster that led to Nixon cutting a deal and abolishing the draft. As a junior senator! This is one of the reasons I fail to fall down impressed with Obama's "anti-war" stance. If he were really anti-war, he'd have made better use of his time as a junior senator.

This is pretty creepy.. I bet if i play this backwards it tells me to kill someone!

Interesting how someone could go from a Democrat to a Libertarian! Kinda polar opposites..

How great would it be if he hijacked the Libertarian party and made it into something we could all love?

Almost as good as the "rock in the water" ad he did earlier this year. They need to bring him back for the PA debate to inject some craziness.

Word. Hella Word. Who's crazy now?
If only we lived in a world where politicians felt free to express themselves how they want to - not releasing the same tired, old ads after running them through focus groups. If only we lived in a world where stepping outside the norm didn't make you a crazy person. You'd have to be crazy not to have gone mad these past seven years (or more).
