WALLINGFORD, Pa. — Sen. Barack Obama said Wednesday he would give Al Gore, a Nobel prize winner, a major role in an Obama administration to address the problem of global warming.

At a town-hall meeting, Obama was asked if he would tap the former vice president for his Cabinet to handle global warming.

"I would," Obama said. "Not only will I, but I will make a commitment that Al Gore will be at the table and play a central part in us figuring out how we solve this problem. He's somebody I talk to on a regular basis. I'm already consulting with him in terms of these issues, but climate change is real. It is something we have to deal with now, not 10 years from now, not 20 years from now."

Since leaving the White House, Gore has gone on to become one of the world's leading voices for combating the greenhouse gases blamed for global warming. His work earned him a share of the Nobel last year.

Popular among Democrats, Gore is perhaps the single most coveted endorsement up for grabs in the long-running competition between Obama and rival Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The relationship between Gore and the Clintons became strained after Gore limited Bill Clinton's campaigning on his behalf in the 2000 presidential race which elected George W. Bush.

Obama said he would use Gore to help forge a cap-and-trade system for carbon emissions designed to lower pollution.

The Illinois senator cautioned that such a system could mean an increase in electricity bills from power companies that rely on coal-burning, and that some of the money generated from a cap-and-trade system may be used in the beginning to help lower income or fixed income customers with those bills.

He also called on individuals to do their part to lower energy consumption.

"All of us are going to have to change our habits. We are a wasteful culture," he said.

Using compact fluorescent light bulbs, energy efficient appliances, and unplugging power chargers when they're not in use are relatively simple solutions, he said.

"Those kinds of simple steps, if everybody takes them, can drastically reduce our energy consumption."

The Global Warming Hoax will be laughed at in history. All this warming talk will only lead to huge tax increases as we devise ways to start useless programs just to take away the guilt people like Gore has put on us. I laughed at this past weekend when Google had a black web page for an hour. A joke....no less electricity was used. Or when news crews flew all over the place to film dark parties etc.....hypocritical when you consider extra fuel and electricity to accomplish those stories.

Happy green locusts have replaced dogs and cats as Americans' favourite pets. (Useful horses have long gone out of fashion.)

If this is to be thought positiive news, I can only imagine one reason why: Because it ultimately seals that the the 21st century will not be an American one. Russia, China, and who knows what underestimated parts of today's Third World will replace our corrupt, bored and now hallucinating system of Western world domination that projects its own cultural decay on an alleged climatic response of nature against the so-called "sins" of industrial civilization as such.

Pathetic, ridiculous, but hopeful exactly because it is already settled that history will pass over self-mulitators. The "Third World" will not accept your Wall-Street-parasitic "Cap-and-Trade" system, and God be praised for it.

And for all those nurturing doubts that I am sincere and of good intent, e.g., check out this page:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jhtml?xml=/opinion/2008/03/09/do0902.xml&CMP=ILC-mostviewedbox

The Chinese will know better than to cripple their economic growth by signing on our follies since they just experienced a record cold winter. They is no more significant global warming since the about 1998. But, ah, I forgot, of course everyone knows that "Global Warming" can show itself through record colds just as much as through everything. A woman trialled for witchcraft proved herself guilty by denial just as by confession as well, after all.

Gore's "science" is flawed, that is the simple knews. The IPCC as well. And here comes the good one: YOU CAN CHECK IT OUR YOURSELVES, it requires only some patience, some readiness to consider an opposing view starting from a clean sheet without prejudice and some moderate foundations in physics:

Rather you believe Gore or not-----------our weather is more violent and our Polar caps are melting. That tells you some thing is wrong with the earths balance. It's only to reason if you gooble up the worlds resources, with out replaceing them you will run out of resources. I'm not saying it's that disperate now, but in our grandchildren or great kids it could be desperate times. So, yes I believe we must invest for further scientific studies to find out the trueth of it all, and stop political izeing it for personal gain! So I'm sstill not sure about Gore's views. I'd feel better if scientist were behind the investigations into this problem. Than have them present thier findings in a Nato kind of setting with all country's present for the meeting. But I think Gore could help a lot to push it-----if it is true. He has a lot of pull, and Obama would be smart to use his resources to come to the trueth of it all, and than set up programs.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:42 PM on 04/05/2008

I doubt that "the polar caps are melting".

The north pole seems to be in historical phase of retreating glaciated area. That is that anyone can say. And as to the antarctic ice, all I regularly hear from the global warming faction are documentations from the western antartic region, near the antarctic pensinsula. Here, we have a climate trend towards warming, indeed. A fact which I know already from the reports of acquaintances I have in souther Chile. But this, prima facie, is a regional trend, just as we have in Western Europe (where I live), with the famous corollory of melting Alpine glaciers, incessantly cited, - and believed by a lot of credulous people -, as "proof" of all the dangers the IPCC daunts us with.

The easy news is, - and I tried to hint at this with my postings "Posted 05:22 AM on 04/03/2008", the natural greenhouse effect is real, but it is no linear effect (therefore no simple correlation "more greenhouse gases, more warming" holds true. Indeed, you may call me what you like, after weighing a lot of pros and cons me, personally, am all but convinced that it is rather plainly visible that the natural grenhouse effect is not even non-linear, but, indeed, essentially exhausted, by the earth's natural endowment of greenhouse gases, the (vast) majority of which being water vapor.

(To be continued; Part I)

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:46 AM on 04/06/2008

(Part II, continuation)

Lesser manipulations at one valve (carbon dioxide) will only result in a little bias on what natural (meteorologic) reaction the global weather machine will apply over the randomized data. It will not lead to any global warming, at all, in my opinion.

(Perhaps, changes in weather patterns, yes, but how much and in what dirction, I don't know, and I don't believe anybody knows.)

You may believe, I am careless, but actually I am quite the contrary of it. I don't believe, however, that the matter will be settled, before western science will lose its position of global domination, for I see this issue too one area where the total cultural corruption of western civiliization becomes apparent.

Which one is greater, your way of living or the place where you do it?

Pray, let us speak about the universe, nature and the laws governing them, but let's stop submitting to such confuse and suggestive conceptions. What would be “environment” if you had no reference to human society? Which is the basis for your cognition just as mine?

The thing ecologists really fear is that nature could some day cease surrounding us, and start looking like the residue from civilization. With us, who have killed God, hitherto at the mercy of whatever passes for human ingenuity.

Hallucinations, I say. I love nature far too much to go in for such a denigration of her beauty, wisdom and power. If us cultural pubescents could cease asking who's 'bigger' we could perfectly grow riper without refusing to gain in strength and height.

“Dam my rivers and I'll salt your crops;
Cut my trees and I'll flood your plains.
Kill 'pests' and, by God, you'll get a silent spring!
Go ahead -- save every last baby's life!
I'll starve the lot of them later.”

[from your charming first citation]

Could there be a better way to portray the spirit of ecologism? A heathen god threatening. It appears Bush was a good follower. He has destroyed America's real economy, with its efforts to make “environment” a more habitable place for humans, he sells us out to the financial predators. No babies harbored any more.

The immolation will continue with Al Gore.

Gore is a guru, and 8 years of Bush-neocon insanity were needed to bring Americans to the point of collectively "joining a sect". Bush and Gore are supplementing each other with a perfection that loses little of its stupendity for its being lost upon any but a few clear-sighted enough. When finally will it dawn upon people that you cannot cure one craziness with another, just because the media happen to call it "politically opposed" to the former.

An as for the world, MPCarr, I'd recommend not to worry too much. They have long since begun planning for LIFE AFTER the American EMPIRE. I wonder when Americans will start doing the same, and get ready for saving their NATION.

I am very concerned with Senator Obama and wonder who he really is and what he truly stands for? One minute he says he stands by Rev. Wright (for years, by the way) and then on "the View" he so calmly said, "well, if Pastor Wright hadn't resigned, he (Obama) would have to leave the church. Does Obama really think us Americans are that stupid to believe this? In the meantime, I'll bet his children are racist thinking because of going to that church and listening to that rhetoric. He should be ashamed! What a phony! I was initially impressed by his speeches calling for change in America and believed he was an honest and decent man! But the racist oratories delivered by his mentor/friend, Pastor Wright, has drastically changed my beliefs!

It took too long for Senator Obama to denounce Pastor Wright’s fiery statements concerning our great nation and the white race in general! It bothers me deeply that as Senator Obama tries to secure the Democratic Party’s nomination to run for President of our Country, he has been allied to a Pastor who harbors a smoldering hatred for the very same country for which Obama seeks office! For Obama to be friends with a Pastor who said “God Damn America,” while countless American Soldiers have died, and continue to die, on foreign battlefields to protect our freedom is simply deplorable and unacceptable! If only Al Gore was running for President. He's the best candidate of them all.

Where have you been all these weeks? Didn't you watch the speech Obama gave in Philly?? Didn't it tell you something about Obama and his take on Rev Wright? How about what Obama has said. That he didn'tknow about the more controversial statements. So why would he leave a church when he wasn't aware of those comments. DO you think that everyone who attends church hears everything their pastor says and writes. I know I haven't so don't be a hypocritical self-righteous person and put aside your venom. Obama was not raised in any rhetorical hatres. Haven't you read his books? Have you bothered to follow his career in the Illinois senate.? Does he strike you as a bigot. Get real, you are just a front for the McCain campaign and if you are not, then you need to embrace this great melting pot called the USA Nothng is black or white, but shades of gray.

Yes, I watched the two-sided speech to please all of us, not impressed. Give me a break, they were buddies for God sake. They knew each other very well. You are dead wrong about my being a front for McCain. Here's a wak-up all for you and others. None of the candidates impress me, but Al Gore sure does. They bashed him the in the Government for trying to make this a better world for us. Obama is playing both sides of the fence here. Who are you kidding. By Obama going to that Church for years proves that all he education he had he still ended up in that church and with that pastor, so racism is alive and well. Think about it. Don't be stupid. Oh and don't forget that in that speech he said I couldn't give up Rev Wright anymore than my white grandmother but on "The View" he said if Pastor Wright hadn't retired he would have to leave the church. Give me a break. You trut this an????!!!!! Start thinking buddy.

Wright's comments are dangerous. AND those comments you hear are taken from a CD his church produced highlighting those comments. Which means his church wanted those comments to get out. If anyone had concerns about them would they have purposefully produced a sanctioned CD with them? Looks like their message was clear and deliberate. His supporters and Obama make it sound like some guy with a tape caught some unintended ramblings...no...those are the message the church wants to be heard.
