Poll: Clinton Significantly Outperforms Obama Vs. McCain In Ohio, Florida

New polling data released today from Quinnipiac University:

* Florida: Clinton 44 percent - McCain 42 percent; McCain beats Obama 46 - 37 percent;
* Ohio: Clinton beats McCain 48 - 39 percent; Obama gets 43 percent to McCain's 42 percent

"When it comes to November, Sen. Hillary Clinton's strength is a big edge over Sen. Barack Obama among white voters, who have not given a majority of their votes to a Democratic presidential nominee since Lyndon Johnson in 1964," said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute." ...

"At least for now, Sen. Clinton's argument that she is the better general election candidate in these key battleground states appears to have some validity," said Brown. "In this survey, her strength among white voters is why she runs better against Sen. McCain than does Sen. Obama.

"Roughly one in five Democrats in the three states say they will vote for McCain against Obama, but less than 10 percent say they would vote for McCain over Clinton. Among white Democrats, 23 percent defect to McCain in a matchup with Obama, but only 11 percent defect when Clinton is the Democratic candidate."

Give me a break please. When was the last time a Democrat took either Ohio or Florida?

Don't you love the way they 'cherry pick' in these polls? This is only relevent if only OH & FL voted - but they seemed to have forgotten the other 48 states actually vote too. So they picked two states with a larger older population. You can't pick winners based solely on past results otherwise we'd all have millions in our 401Ks - a much larger percentage of 'young' voters will be out in force this year if Obama is the nominee.

Obama.s math and logic is right on the money. For the last 3 general elections less than 60% of the electorate voted.

Is he manages to increase that total by 2 percentage points he can change the electoral map dramatically.

The 20% of democrats who will chose to vote for McCain better understand this, whatever you do is your right. However the genie is out the bottle, aint no stopping us now.

We the new demographics (age) will be voting in our millions.

The geriatric candidate is going down.!!!!!

Of course one could make the argument that no Democrat can win the White House without a significant portion of the black vote, but then again black votes don't matter.

As if Florida and Ohio are the only 2 states that matter.

I've always maintained that Democrats tolerate blacks because they can only go so far in the party and that their votes actually make a difference.

As soon as that vote becomes dispensable, look out!! Blacks will be worse off than during slavery.

Those 1 in 5 Democrats would not support a Black Candidate for President if their lives depended on it.

They will be comfortable with any white candidate even one that is opposed to everything they believe.

What kind of ignorance is that? Blacks will be worse off than during slavery???? Do you know how ignorant those comments are? Also, accusing 1 in 5 Dem's of being racist is another idiotic comment. I just don't get some people any more. it's these types of comments that create divides not bridges...

Still not enough for HIlary Clinton because they are many other swing states that Obama does better in and Florida I wouldnt count because Obama never campaigned there. Polls have shown that Obama does better matched up with McCain than she does. This merely may be a reason to consider putting her on the ticket as far as her getting the nomination NOT. Although I'm sure she is going spin it until she is dizzy.

Sometimes Honor Is Wrong -- The Problem With John McCain

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/frank-schaeffer/sometimes-honor-is-wrong-_b_94524.html

The next president will inherit the mess George W. Bush created with a big assist from Senators McCain and Hilary Clinton, and from other members of congress. If we are to get out of the mess they made we need good judgment and a ruthless disregard for any concern other than for the good of the American people.

Above all we need a completely fresh start. And of the three presidential candidates only Senator Obama can provide that.

Only Obama showed good judgment on this matter. McCain's and Clinton's future decisions will inevitably be clouded by the need for self-justification for mistakes they have yet to admit.

And, unlike Obama, they are in no position to restore faith in America by the rest of the world.

McCain has taken his lack of good judgment about Iraq to the next level. He has joined himself at the hip to the Bush disaster by demanding a "win." While we may empathize with our soldiers, who have given so much and who may grimly want to be vindicated when it comes to "sticking it out" and wanting to "win" what we can't do is elect a president whose idea of honor guarantees more wasted sacrifice.

Sorry, I thought Obama would be running against McCain or that Hillary would be running against McCain?

Is Hillary planning to ship McCain off to an old folks home, change into a Republican and then try to wrest the nomination from him?

Did I miss something?

For someone to have "LOST" would require that we have a "WINNER" wouldn't it? I do believe that your attempts to prove the negative, making Clinton the loser, to somehow force everyone to acknowledge the positive, that Obama won, is ignorant.

2024. That's the rules.

If this is true, great!!!!!!!!Then when Obama wins the nomination he can leave the Ohio and Fla. campaigning to her and Bill. Well maybe with somebody supervising them so they don't mistakenly work for McCain.

Oh goodie, Florida & Ohio, the two states that lost us the 2000 and 2004 elections.

It's deplorable that Hillary Clinton's supporters are saying they would vote for McCain rather than Obama in the general election. I have to believe this would change after Obama gets the nomination and they have time to think about the issues and what's at stake: Iraq and our international reputation, health care, the next Supreme Court nominee. Democrats need to take advantage of the huge increase in voter registration and take back the country.

i think the biggest reason that so many clinton supporters initially don't wanna vote for obama has everything to do with his supporters. the longer this race goes on, the clearer it becomes that his die-hard fanatics have zero respect for senator clinton and the former president and anyone else who dares to utter a discouraging word; and that doesn't sit well with those of us who have been invested in the democratic party since long before obama came along. if these people are the new democrats, then count me out -- as, i'm sure, they're only too willing to do.

and that's what makes mccain seem so inviting.

now go ahead, obama folks. i'm sure you're foaming at the mouth to let me have it...

I think it is perfectly reasonable for Hillary's supporters to help elect a Republican candidate who wants to have wars for 100 years and who doesn't care about the poor, the weak, the millions of Americans without health insurance and the millions of our people suffering in the failing economy -- because they think the supporters of their opposition candidate are mean and icky.

Yes, that is the compassionate, progressive thing to do!

So you won't vote for him because you don't like his supporters? What?

It sickens me when I see people on BOTH sides saying that, because it's ridiculous. Yeah, forget the policies.

Let's stay in Iraq!
Let's enter the next Great Depression!
Let's overturn Roe. v. Wade!
Forget healthcare!

Why can't people be rational?

If Senator Obama would sit down and have an in-depth discussion with Senator Hagel and if they both come to agreement on a plan to get us out of that mess and Hagel would be his point man on Iraq, then I would like to see an Obama/Hagel ticket.

Those of you who think that Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida don't matter may find it interesting to play around with this interactive electoral map.
